何征cross is a writer on the author’s friendlist in jjwxc and the work referred to is 《见鬼男友》Jian gui nan you, or Hell Boyfriend, whose protagonist is He Zheng (何征) (different Chinese characters than Xie Zhi’s He Zheng). The story tells of an ordinary police officer who gets into a car accident and ends up involved in the internal struggles of a sect in modern times.

    • hehe thanks! and no, i won’t be translating the sister novel because 1) it’s incomplete and 2) it hasn’t been updated since March 2020. i think the cliffhangers we face would probably kill us instead…

      altho i do like showbiz settings i tend to gravitate towards ancient settings more! so most of my projects will be those types. (interstellar and apocalypse settings are also my favs, but i’m pretty picky about them haha)

I started this with the impression that it’d be just like any run of the mill master-disciple danmei but it ended up having some special stand out points! Mengmeng is definitely one of the best female characters to ever exist in danmei and all the characters were so multi-dimensional. Like the Chinese commenter above said, Wood Box’s dad really surprised me when he turned out to be such a son-con. But the most special part of the story for me is how much focus there was on Teacher Xie accepting the story world as reality and finally opening his heart. Usually in these kinds of transmigration stories with yandere MLs I’ve always felt the strength of feelings between the couple is somewhat unbalanced because the MLs are so crazy obsessive and willing to do anything for love while the MC is more rational but in a way also cold. But Teacher Xie’s character development was beautifully done by the author and I can finally see that both Teacher Xie and Wood Box love each other equally. So again, thank you very much for your amazing translation and hard work!

I love this story sm that I read all chapters within 2 days and now I want to cry, feeling so empty QAQ but anyways, agree with all the commenters, especially the one who pointed out the changes that XZW went through; for example I noticed that he used the system less and less, aka he grew more and more assimilated in the world and didn’t care as much about the plot hhhh I can’t speak properly it’s 3am 😭 but thank you for the superb translations!     • Extra thoughts to add after rereading: while I did get frustrated a lot of times [Wood Box and his issues with consent, him hurting Cheese & Mengmeng, everyone believe in psycho dad Yin (I still got a bit mad because almost no one thought about how he was the one to “cure” Cheese’s arm), etc. etc.], the ending always hurts my heart the most…you can fully feel the sincerity of Xie Zhi’s emotions QAQ anyways fuck the system 🖕 and maybe one day I will write about Mengmeng!! She needs her happy ending and I really want to give it to her ᕦ⁠(⁠ò⁠_⁠ó⁠ˇ⁠)⁠ᕤ

  15. Whoahh, I’m finally here at the ending of the main story damnnn. After reading the story continuously day and night for 3-4 days, thw only words i can say is, it was an interesting ride. This story wasn’t perfect, had a lot of ups and downs and made me so frustrated at times. But now that I’m at the end, i don’t remember all the many complaints i had, the only feeling is the melancholy of reading one another good story. I’m glad i read this.

  16. So….. It has ended. How long has it been? 3days? I finished this novel in 3 days but I grew so attached to characters. Although I read it in completed state and finished it in 3 days, I am certain that I will miss it. I might even be coming back. Although not the best one I have read, sure enough I grew fond of this one.

    I binge reading in 3 days, it was a fun ride of emotions. I’m a big fan of SVSS which compared to the other MXTX’s work is lack of content to savour, I’ve been coping even with every tiniest crumbs I can find (red: fanfic/fanart), sobs. SO, to find another great story with similar premise as SVSS was a joy to me.

  24. Better than svsss. I think this is the best master x disciple ever. Yes there’s rape and non con but it’s done so well. Svsss left a bitter taste within my mouth because it didn’t feel like love, it seems like he just agree to stop his disciple from destroying the world. The Ml was just plain crazy and there wasn’t much love. This have both loving each other thou mc was a bit in denial at first but there was always love
