Chapter 60

Qin Zhou not only waited for him but even went to the morgue to find him. 7wqJXr

Lin Yi supposed that when Qin Zhou came to find him, he was hiding inside the mortuary cabinet.

And that had indeed been the case. When Qin Zhou looked in through the glass on the door panel, he only saw Doctor Zhu. He hadn’t seen Lin Yi and thought that Lin Yi had gone ahead back to the patients’ building. After all, neither of them had a watch on them and they had to estimate the twenty-five minutes by counting it in their heads.

As Qin Zhou was heading back to his room, he got worried and went to Room 203 to make sure that Lin Yi really had gone back.

Standing in front of the door of Room 203, Qin Zhou didn’t hear any movement inside. 1joNZ

They had gone out in a hurry, there should be traces of it in the room.

If Lin Yi had come back, he would definitely would be cleaning up the room. Qin Zhou’s breathing stopped and he immediately turned around to go look for Lin Yi.

Seeing that Qin Zhou hadn’t returned to his room, Lin Yi became anxious.

Seeing Lin Yi anxious, Qin Zhou comforted him, “Don’t worry. They won’t be waking up so soon.”

Qin Zhou, who’d turned around to look for Lin Yi, had suddenly stopped in his tracks. He then turned around and entered Room 203. Glancing towards the hospital bed, the patient was still lying peacefully, showing no sign of waking up. Qin Zhou walked over and reached out to touch the tip of Patient 203’s nose.

Irregular breathing, hyperventilation syndrome.

Maybe it was because of poor physical functions, he was still in a moderate coma and wouldn’t be waking up for a while.

Qin Zhou dismissed the idea of increasing the amount of ether to create more time for Lin Yi to come back. He went out of Room 203 and returned to Room 303. Patient 303 was in a similar state to Patient 203 and was still in a moderate coma. After confirming that Patients 203 and 303 would not be waking up for at least half an hour more, Qin Zhou once again left the three-story building without any hesitation. vADMIY

His plan had been to go to the morgue to look for Lin Yi again but Lin Yi must have hidden somewhere when Doctor Zhu appeared in the morgue.

If he’d hidden in the mortuary cabinet then that meant he was in danger. If the mortuary cabinet was powered on, it must be freezing inside. Lin Yi could get frostbite or even fall unconscious if he stays inside for too long.

Qin Zhou had almost bumped into Doctor Zhu as he came out of the building. He pressed himself sideways against the wall, waiting for Doctor Zhu to leave. Unexpectedly, Doctor Zhu didn’t head for his office. Qin Zhou saw that he was carrying a black plastic bag in his hand. Doctor Zhu then walked to the grass garden and squatted down to dig something.

The sound of broken glass immediately attracted Doctor Zhu’s attention. Qin Zhou hid by the window and saw Doctor Zhu looking towards him with a grim expression on his face.

Doctor Zhu rushed into the building. He ran in so fast that practically within the next second, Qin Zhou already heard the sound of running footsteps reach the second floor. Qin Zhou pushed open the window and immediately jumped out.

“Fuck.”

The force shook his feet.  Qin Zhou paid no attention to the pain and immediately stuck himself close to the wall, hiding himself in the shadowy blind spot. RzeCvo

Doctor Zhu stuck his head out the window and looked around.

Because he couldn’t see anyone, he simply closed the window angrily and went to salvage what Qin Zhou had destroyed.

After dealing with Doctor Zhu, Qin Zhou was about to set off to find Lin Yi. Enduring the pain, he had just taken a couple of steps when a figure appeared from the canteen-morgue building.

After seeing the figure, Qin Zhou let out a long sigh of relief. AUh8KI

Lin Yi hadn’t noticed him at first. He was heading to the patients’ building, careless in his movements, as though he wasn’t at all afraid of being discovered.

Qin Zhou didn’t know whether to laugh or get angry. After he’d tried his best to remove obstacles for him, Lin Yi just comes sauntering over like he was invincible.

“Sure enough, he’s got guts in him enough for three people.” Qin Zhou said.

Perhaps sensing Qin Zhou’s strange aura, Lin Yi finally noticed him. i9KedW

And then ran towards him.

After briefly catching Lin Yi up to these things, instead of alleviating his anxiety, Lin Yi became even more anxious, “They’re still not awake?”

Qin Zhou realized something was wrong, and Lin Yi said anxiously, “Senior, the Rule of Death is having the patient’s condition worsen.”

Qin Zhou pondered for a moment. “Let’s go back first.” tZ1xB

And at this moment, the tang of seawater spread through the air.

Doctor Zhu appeared in their field of vision, holding the box he’d brought the previous two nights. Before Lin Yi could react, Qin Zhou squatted down, pushing Lin Yi to crouch down with him.

Several of the patients were now looking out their windows.

Every time Doctor Zhu appears with his box, all the patients would look on with envy. Rux6M

Having found out the Rule of Death, Lin Yi now knew why Qin Zhou said in his note that they probably couldn’t leave the patients.

The body transfer was a secret shared by the patients and Doctor Zhu in the sanatorium. The participants were only nursing aides in name. What they actually were, was the provider of the patient’s new body. If the nursing aides discovered this, they would be attacked by the patients. The electrified fence was to prevent the participants from escaping. One could well imagine how the patients and Doctor Zhu would treat them.

By that time, they would really be locked up and placed under stricter surveillance.

For people with extensive burns, the dead skin can produce a toxin. However, Lin Yi has been around Patient 203 for the past three days and he found that Patient 203 hadn’t received any rehabilitation treatment, nor had he taken any medicine. Patient 203 was waiting for his condition to worsen. If the patient were to find out that they’ve discovered the secret of the sanatorium, once they were truly locked up and under surveillance, they would be as good as dead. cjE25X

Not to mention that there was the 16-8 Monster hiding among them. Once they’ve lost any chance to take the initiative, it would be all too easy for the 16-8 Monster to lead them to violate Rules of Death.

The position where they were now could easily be seen by the patients looking out the window. Only the shadows cast by the garden and the building blocked the patient’s sight.

Qin Zhou had great strength, Lin Yi has seen it before. Even though he was anxious, he had no choice but to let Qin Zhou force him down to avoid being seen by the other patients.

But Doctor Zhu taking his box to the patients’ building meant that one of the patients’ condition had worsened this night. ghGiU1

Lin Yi was a little anxious. He didn’t know if maybe it was Patient 203 or Patient 303 whose condition had worsened due to inhaling ether.

He didn’t want Qin Zhou to die, but he wanted to die even less.

He had just finally gotten some clues about his parents and Teacher Zhu’s words were still ringing in his ears. Lin Zhen died at the age of 20 and Yuan Yuan died only ten years ago. The two of them didn’t exist during the same time period.

Qin Zhou’s voice was a little fuzzy in his ears. Um6zT5

“It’s not us.” Qin Zhou said, “It’s 103, Zhang Yunyan.”

In the three-story building, aside from Patients 203 and 303 who were both passed out, the only one who didn’t appear by the window was Patient 103.

Patient 103 had heart disease and he was indeed more at risk of having his condition worsen than the other patients. Right now, instead of Patient 103, only Zhang Yunyan was looking at Doctor Zhu fearfully and anxiously by the window.

Lin Yi gave no answer. But because Qin Zhou was thinking about something, he didn’t notice Lin Yi’s strangeness. He had one hand on Lin Yi’s back, trying to keep Lin Yi’s figure as close to the ground as possible to ensure that the shadows would cover him. z Kxnl

“Little genius.” Qin Zhou said, “Why did Qu Jialiang die? Because he left the room. But how did the old dorm manager find out that he’d left the room? Because of the surveillance cameras in the room.”

Lin Yi still gave no answer.

Qin Zhou had his eyes fixed his eyes on Room 103’s window, so he still didn’t notice Lin Yi’s silence. He said, “There are no cameras here. So how did Doctor Zhu know that the patient’s condition had worsened?”

“Little genius.” Qin Zhou then turned to look at Lin Yi. “Do you remember what Doctor Zhu said on the day of the interview?” ldf4VX

‘If the patient’s condition deteriorates, you must notify me immediately.’

These were Doctor Zhu’s very words.

Qin Zhou thought he would hear Lin Yi’s answer. The Rule of Death is for the patient’s condition to worse but there was an additional condition — to notify Doctor Zhu.

There was a call bell by the patient’s bed in each room. But since the nursing aides were staying in the rooms with the patients then who did this bell summon? kq 4eH

Doctor Zhu.

Qin Zhou thought he would hear Lin Yi say this answer.

But Qin Zhou got none.

Lin Yi kept silent. Qin Zhou looked at him with a frown. It was at this moment that Qin Zhou keenly noticed that something was wrong with Lin Yi. Lin Yi had a blank expression on his face. His dark pupils now looked to Qin Zhou less like doe eyes and a lot like the pools of a bottomless abyss. AdGx4I

“Lin Yi?” Qin Zhou looked at him.

Lin Yi raised his head slowly, and met Qin Zhou’s suspicious and worried eyes.

  1. I have a few theories about Lin Yi and “It”:

Lin Yi is actually a monster. He slipped past the Unnatural University to the real world and, for whatever reason, pretend to be a human by sealing his memories and took two dead people (his victims, the university’s students) to pretend as his parents.
Lin Yi was born in a Rule World. And the monster of that Rule World possessing him, but because it was in a weak condition (probably on the verge of death because someone managed to overwhelmed it), it only could occasionally appear when Lin Yi is in his weakness state (like got overwhelmed by anxiety).
Lin Yi is a reincarnation of a Monster or a Unnatural University’s student.
The world where Lin Yi lived before entering the Unnatural University is actually a Rule World and not the real world, and he’s the monster of the Rule World, but he doesn’t aware of his true identity.
