Xu Jingzhe’s room had blackout curtains drawn year round. His biological clock was very regular, almost never staying up late. Xu Jingzhe was between laughter and tears. “What did you just call me?”
Liang Yu stopped calling him pet names. His phone rang. Xiao Luo was urging him to leave.
Xu Jingzhe got out of bed, washed up, and changed into some clothes. He even said hello to Xiao Luo before sending Liang Yu out to the car.
Xiao Luo’s eyes wandered between the two of them for a while. Suddenly, she asked, “Ge, does your agent know that you ripped up the contract?”
Xu Jingzhe: “…”
Liang Yu was unfazed. “So what if he does? So what if he doesn’t? Has he ever been able to control me?”
Xiao Luo sighed. “Isn’t this considered a serious breach of contract? What’ll we do if Man jie sues us? You not only breached the contract, but you stole her artist right out from under her nose.”

Zhu Xiaoxiao paused, mops still in her hands, with a puzzled look on her face.
Zhang Man stopped drinking her coffee. She expressionlessly turned towards the mops and said, somewhat despairingly, “You can put them down. Also, order ten more mops for me.”

In the years since the studio’s establishment, Xu Jingzhe rarely paid in-person visits to the office, mainly because he spent most of his time on set. Moreover, his presence wouldn’t make much of a difference. It wasn’t like the employees had to be staring at his face in order to do their work.
His studio didn’t have a whole lot of employees, with only about ten people on staff for finance, logistics, and management combined. Legal affairs and public relations were both outsourced, and these two areas took up a significant portion of the budget every year. Xu Jingzhe was very conscientious about his work, but he didn’t really have much ambition to develop his studio into an entertainment empire. Zhang Man had only recently begun considering signing on some new talents, and, even then, she was limiting it to students who had received a formal education in film or theater. She wanted them to focus on producing quality works and nothing more.
Seated on a sofa in Zhang Man’s office, Xu Jingzhe looked through the roster in his hand. It listed the batch of students who were about to graduate this year. Zhang Man was meticulous in her work, having included front and side profiles for each candidate. Xu Jingzhe looked through a few of them, and Zhang Man had even marked a score to the side.
“I asked Xiaoxiao to get you some soda water.” Zhang Man walked in with some coffee. She sat across from Xu Jingzhe. “Still the same brand from before, right?”
Xu Jingzhe nodded. He set down the roster and asked, “Do you have any students that you’re leaning towards?”
Zhang Man: “I have a couple, both girls. I’ve seen some videos from their acting classes, and I think they have a lot of potential. Do you want to take a look?”
Xu Jingzhe said, “If you’re satisfied with them, then it’s fine.”
Zhang Man hummed in response. She observed Xu Jingzhe’s expression and continued, “I’ve received quite a few new scripts here. Some of them are projects that we were interested in before. I’ll send them to your email later.”
Xu Jingzhe agreed with a nod. He was one of the few actors who would choose scripts for himself, and Zhang Man had always been very supportive of this. Moreover, Xu Jingzhe didn’t have a fixed preference for leading roles. If he feels that a role suited him well, he’d be willing to take on secondary and even tertiary roles.
Zhu Xiaoxiao returned from buying soda water. She hadn’t expected Xu Jingzhe to come so early today. Originally, she’d intended to pick up the soda water in the afternoon, so she felt a little sorry towards Xu Jingzhe.
Xu Jingzhe took the soda water and said, “Thank you.”

Xu Jingzhe treated this like a trivial matter, completely unaware of how sudden this course of action was. As mentioned before, Xu Jingzhe actually loves pets a lot and has always wanted to have one, but, due to his busy schedule, he never had the chance.
Around the time of their wedding, Liang Yu took a cat and a dog from Liang Shu’s place and brought them to Xu Jingzhe’s villa in order for him to experience the joy of raising a pet.
Later on, Liang Yu realized that, while Xu Jingzhe did find joy, his own joy had disappeared.
Xu Jingzhe takes care of pets a bit like how a child would. He likes to talk to his pets. This was okay with the dog. It was very attached to him. The cat, however, was too aloof. It’ll ignore him even if he calls out its name. Xu Jingzhe no longer cuddled with Liang Yu before going to bed. Instead, he was busy calling out to the cat, insisting on coaxing the cat into the bed before going to sleep.
In the end, Liang Yu couldn’t take it anymore. “Do you even know where it ends up in the morning?”
Xu Jingzhe asked, “Where?”
Liang Yu: “On my face.”
Xu Jingzhe actually envied him a bit. “It likes you so much. Why isn’t it ever on my face?”
Liang Yu: “…”
