The Ghost King's KeeperCh84 - Crowd of Manjo

When Ou’Ni glanced at Ghost Moulin and saw his expression, he immediately catered to the ladies. “I will try to ask his majesty, if he agrees then you all can meet Ru’Zen. Ru’Zen would like the company… I am sure.”

An excited round of murmur started as the Harem buzzed with talk.   sdbG1h

Ou’Ni lead them all towards the remote area allocated to the guest chambers. It was closer to the lake embankment and had well cared for gardens.

The front of the chamber spiral was the reception, where Ou’Ni had planned to leave them in the hands of a capable master servant.

“This Moulin will see himself in, you can go and continue with your responsibilities.” Ghost Moulin spoke with the usual aloof tone, but he was very understanding, which not many guests were.

“Then I would take my leave,” Ou’Ni returned with a deep bow, “Several guards are already at station, feel free to call for service my lord.”   F1slVt

A politely dressed female servant immediately came forward to escort the gathering, her smile sophisticated and her stature humble.

Ghost Moulin seemed to be satisfied as he waved his hand in dismissal, “This Moulin considers Manjo his other home, be at ease,” he then gestured for the servant to escort, which she gladly did. And their party left Ou’Ni at the garden, the gaggle of them full of positive energy.

Ou’Ni could only smile at them, his feelings towards them a bit complicated. He always felt that the ghost Moulin was a rather odd one, he was unlike the other ghosts, more human, but at the same time very stern towards Ou’Ni’s attitude. There was a time when he even complained to the Majesty about Ou’Ni’s dismissal of his Keepers. At that time Ou’Ni was still a youngling, and didn’t know that his attitude towards the ghost’s keeper was seen as aloof and overbearing.

So of course, his majesty scolded him in front of all the council members, reminding him that he wasn’t above those keepers who served Moulin.

What could be said, Ou’Ni hadn’t been cold towards them, at that time he just didn’t know how he was supposed to interact with them. Thus, after that day he was very careful with his behavior when in front of Lord Moulin.

Even if many considered lord Moulin as detached and cold, he was actually very protective towards his own. Alas, for a ghost, his possessions were very valuable, that was what Ou’Ni learned that day. So, no matter what, he hoped the ceremony didn’t get hindered or delayed, he wished for a successful ascension.

Because who knew what their King would do if things went wrong in the middle… he was already frosty after those attacks; it was fortunate that Ou’Ni didn’t have to stay near the King in his most frightening state. Ou’Ni was actually quite happy to cut flowers and hang decorations if it meant staying safe from his majesty’s wrath.

Ruzen walked with light footsteps as he saw the gateway of Manjo, he was to cross Manjo before he reached his destination and to say he was nervous would be saying it lightly.

There were reasons of course, why he was so nervous. Despite crossing over more than half of the distance, Manjo was the center of all hubs, it was the most prominent, the major city. And the people who lived in Manjo mattered even more. Many of them belonged to the upper echelon and how they saw Ruzen impacted the King himself.

Not that he hadn’t tried his best to be impressive and overbearing, however, it could be said that Ruzen was not yet a ripe seedling, he still had to mature and bloom, so judging him may not show them the result they imagined.

Breathing in, Ruzen entered the Gateway, the same three-way gate which he had crossed once with his master. Today, there was no one who guarded it, instead, there stood several locals who were waiting with flowers in hand.  jaN3Te

As soon as Ruzen entered the gate, the gathered crowd of men, women and children, all of them cheered along with the drums that rang with each step he took. Planned or not, the music and the massive followership added to the magnificence of his arrival.

“Keeper, you are really beautiful today, this is for you!” A woman who was not any older than Ruzen threw a flower his way, as he caught it in a daze. He received similar affection from other women as well, including some men who were even older than him.

The path ahead of him was clearly demarcated by the carpet as Ruzen walked through the crowd, the people were screaming, shouting, hooting, it was total chaos. Ruzen had expected them to be a bit more sober, more polite, but they were the exact opposite, totally chaotic and loud.

“Don’t step on the blue, keep distance!” Someone said in the middle as people fell over each other in excitement.  MW3fld

Ruzen almost grimaced when he saw someone smacking another in the face, just to get them out of their way.

Alright.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Maintaining a short smile, feeling totally mobbed, Ruzen walked as proudly as he could, almost feeling like a strutting peacock, but the people didn’t seem to care, they were truly too excited to meet him.

Ruzen almost considered them to be high on some drugs.  RXW9Hy

Almost.

“Keeper, meet my son!” a middle-aged man piped in, bouncing his toddler son on his shoulders, “Keeper! Give him your best wishes, in future let him be your guard.”

“Keeper look at me,” a young girl echoed with a bright smile, “I will be your hair dresser, I love your hair!”

Who knew if they were being serious or just joking, but they certainly made Ruzen take a double take.   Q2bdtm

He didn’t know if they were trying to be clever by asking for his attention or if they were really that eager to work for him. Although, Ruzen didn’t mind their behavior, he found it kind of cute, if it could be called that.

A bunch of giggling and talking rang out when Ruzen sent his admirers a little smile. It made him feel as if he was living in a dream world and everything else was just a fragment of his imagination… it felt surreal.

Hours passed just in a haze, and Ruzen finally encountered the polite company he had first assumed to meet in manjo. The cheering public seemed to wane, the streets becoming narrower as they gave way to massive dwellings. It wouldn’t take a genius to tell that this part of Manjo belonged to the upper echelon. The two storey buildings were suddenly higher, and the structure as well seemed to have more roofs and balconies. Little lawns and hedges surrounded these compounds and in a singular file stood the fashionably dresses sturdy men and women, right in front, obviously to greet Ruzen.

Ruzen didn’t look for long, but he did feel the stifling air as the cheering and delight seemed to become muted.  50yJPG

‘So they are the ones who have an issue…’

Ruzen smiled just like he did before, but he didn’t make much eye contact, neither slowed down, his demure aura flared as he pointed his nose straight up. Some might think he was being too childish, but from what he had learned so far from his master, was that you never show weakness in front of the upper echelon, not even a slight slump.

“We greet the Keeper.” Someone anonymous mumbled when Ruzen passed him, but there was no sign of anyone making these claims, it was somewhat of a subtle whisper meant for only his ears.

So…  V TW3i

Ruzen immediately understood how these people worked, they definitely didn’t do cheering and rather believed in hidden salutes and muted expressionism.

…why so troublesome.

  1. I know I probably shouldn’t think this, but somehow .. wouldn’t a side story with Ou’Ni and Moulin be nice. Awww, I know it probably ain’t happening. 🙈 I’m just such a sucker for misunderstandings at the start of a love story, wich then develops into good feelings. 😆 I really love your descriptions of the side characters. Poor Ruzen has to also consider those stuck up people. I really hope he makes some really good friends in the future, so that he will feel less bothered by the one’s who don’t like him.😘

  2. Almost there to meet the king!!

I imagined the rowdy bunch are cp fans of Ruzen and the king😂

    Thanks for the chapter!
