Chapter 59 iGS8VC

  “Agares….”

I hoarsely chanted out this name repeatedly. The body that I was embracing was so strong and sturdy. It was like a rock supporting up my entire body. I didn’t know why I became so dependent on this merman as of late, when clearly, I should’ve been hating him. But it was something I didn’t want to understand. I just wanted to hold onto him tightly, as if it was the only way that I could fill in the huge cracks of my heart.

Agares leaned down his head against my cheek, licking against my sideburn with his tongue and nibbling away at my flesh with his lips and teeth, brimming with doting affection and comfort.

Droplets of water trickled down my neck, slowly seeping through my bone marrow, and allowing their coolness to permeate within.

Strangely, I didn’t feel any discomfort. My heart, as if burned by magma, seemed to be suddenly cooled down, and with a familiar fragrance filling my entire world, my mind fell towards the farthest depths into a gentle, tranquil mire. Only the steady and powerful heartbeat inside of Agares’s chest could be heard—badump, badump, badump, badump.

My mind that had felt so tense and tight to the point of collapse earlier, now suddenly loosened into a seemingly hypnotic, relaxed state.

The fish tail under me firmly coiled me up, creating a safety barrier to wrap me and Agares together. This kind of stability and concern caused me to suddenly shed off my outer shell which had just been pierced by those sharp spikes a moment ago by Rhine. I let loose my bitter tears and cried as I held desperately onto Agares. He was the only person (oh wait, I meant fish), who could understand the kind of pain and pressure that currently weighed down my shoulders. But I couldn’t allow myself to act this way. Once a person exposed their weakest side, it wouldn’t be easy to be strong and composed again. The same could be said about a clam having its shell broken open, or collapsing from the first blow; especially, at this time, when you have people you need to protect.

I needed to withstand this. I had to persevere with clenched teeth.  MSoB0l

I loosened my hold on his body. God knows how much I wanted to rely on him, even for a little bit longer. However, Agares’s wrist injuries needed immediate attention. I stretched out my hand to hold his wrist to give it a look, and Agares cooperated with me by propping me up a bit, allowing my head to be leveled with his hand.

I couldn’t imagine how much strength he had used in his struggle, to the point that the manacles were completely deformed. Yet it was a pity that Agares’s bony joints were much more protruded than that of a human’s, and that his hands couldn’t easily get out of the cuffs. As a result, his wrist was badly injured; white bones were visible from the large, deep tear, due to the constant friction of his wrist against the metal manacles. Fortunately, the wound was indeed healing, but some of the new tissue stuck to the cuffs.

As I gently held up Agares’s wrist, I simultaneously heard a short, muffled grunt rolling out from his throat. I was aware of how painful it must’ve been, and thus my heart felt an unbearable ache. However, I tried to maintain a surgical attitude and, little by little, pulled apart the flesh that was stuck on the manacles, pasting them back to cover the visible bones once again.

When I lowered my head, I found that Agares had used his tail to circle around my waist, from who knows when. With his head buried in front of me, I could see that his feather-like eyelashes drooped with the frequency of his trembling body. His expression was full of obsession. Only when he seemed to realize that I had noticed his small action, did he raise his eyelids to look at me with his lips deeply hooked upwards.

My heart suddenly jumped, and a stream of fire swelled up in my chest, immediately shooting straight to the bottom of my body. Damn it, I nearly had a reaction at this critical and inappropriate time! I couldn’t help patting against the thick, solid fishtail, feeling a little frantic. “Hey, hey, it’s all good now. Put me down!”

In response, the tail that was wrapped around me had tightened even more, and since I couldn’t put any of my weight onto his body, I only had his tail to support myself up. This posture was like lying on a scale-covered lift chair. With our faces confronting each other’s, his lips, without a warning, attached onto mine. The wet fish tail then rubbed against my back, gently in circles, as if silently soothing me. Plus, having to feel this across a layer of thin clothing, made it very comfortable, so much that even my waist felt a faint numbness.

I couldn’t help but open my lips a little, allowing his tongue to squeeze in and hook up around my gums. His eyes looked at me at a close distance, and his half-closed eyes were like the lines of a knife’s edge. Except, there was an inevitable, deep affection gushing out from beneath them. i Zdrd

Too dangerous. He was more dangerous than any other deep-sea creature.

For, I felt like I was about to sink all the way in and be eaten up by him, with no bones leftover. Perhaps, there might not even be a lot leftover at all. After all, he had already thoroughly tasted me, and now, thanks to him, I too, began to have the desire for him to have me.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

My body was situated in a sensitive stage. If Agares was capable of moving around freely right now, I wouldn’t be able to protect myself at this time. However, when Agares leaned forward, closer to my neck to deepen the kiss, I immediately recalled the horrible experience I had just lived through with Rhine a few moments ago. I couldn’t help but look at the security camera that was over my head with alertness. It was a pitch-black orb, like a crocodile’s eye hiding in secret. It brought shivers all over one’s body.

Rhine must’ve been watching all of this attentively right about now. The further Agares and I stepped out of line, the more terrifying his jealousy and envy would burn.  bF7Nxs

I immediately shuddered from that thought, and I quickly clasped Agares’s chin, forcing him from further coming onto me intimately. With our enemies being in control right now, I had to stay sensible. On the other hand, Agares wished to continue. He leaned against my cheeks, sniffing and kissing longingly, becoming intoxicated. It was as though he was tasting a bottle of exquisite wine. His damp torso stuck onto mine as though he wanted to mold our two bodies together into one.

Damn it. I even felt his big thing hidden beneath all those scales stirring up again!

I could only flip my body around and roll down his fishtail by myself. Agares immediately straightened forward, as if he wanted to grab me. Alas, he had forgotten that his two webbed claws were still currently binded, and the clacking and clinking sound of the chains around his wrist echoed ironically.

“Hey, hey, hey! Stop moving around like that. You still have your injuries!” I jolted with a start, unable to stop myself from raising my voice. I immediately grabbed his sharp, wing-like ears to prevent him from flailing about. Quickly, I leaned against his ear and whispered, “Someone else is watching us!”  YOoeZ

He raised his head and looked at the top ceiling. His face then suddenly darkened, and his eyes narrowed with a gloomy glint. The long fishtail instantly swept away from my side, stirring up a big wave of water. Like lightning, he lifted the metal bucket containing the fish into the air with his caudal tail. Then with a loud bang, it directly hit the lens of the security camera. I watched as the wires immediately burst into clusters of sparks. It had been obliterated.

“Ha, ha…” The so-called ‘king of destruction’ grinned and looked at the stunned me. As though he had just played a funny prank, Agares raised an eyebrow and let out a mischievous smirk before using his tail to tighten back around me. However, that smiling expression did not last long. In an instant, it was wiped clean off his face. Agares lowered his head, his lips pressed against my ears, and he uttered out a deep, nonstandard, but recognizable string of Russian words, “You…can…ask me…about…what you…want to know. I will…establish, connect.”

I became dumbfounded. I realized that Agares had heard the conversation I had with Rhine and learned what I knew. It was actually something that I had wanted to ask Agares, but I was afraid that he would not disclose about it.

I took a deep breath and looked directly into his eyes, trying to catch something from those bottomless pupils of his. “I want to know everything. Everything about you and my grandfather, or the origins of my family. What I mean is…” I shrugged my shoulders, “You and I come from two existing worlds… what were you trying to… why would you… come find me?”  LkA7VW

He looked at me, took his own deep breath, and remained silent for a long while, before finally replying in a deep voice, “You… belong to… me.”

His voice suddenly poured into my eardrum, like turbulent sea water, and reached deep inside my brain. My consciousness fell into a trance, and the surrounding environment gradually began to blur. Yet only Agares’s figure was still as clear as day. I unexpectedly saw that there were blue, luminous particles floating up from his chest, as though his blood was filled with fluorescence. Through his dense blood vessels, light particles quickly began to enlarge and scatter, flickering slightly like some complicated circuit board. It was similar to a steering wheel of a spaceship that was ready to launch.

I stared at the strange changes happening to his body with astonishment, unsure if I was inside a hallucination or not. His appearance looked terrible. An entire sheet of skin on his chest presented a translucent texture in the mottled, interwoven blue light, just like the description I once witnessed in the alien archives which I had come into contact with before.

Who knew if merfolk were actually aliens after all? According to the existence of the “Space Gate”, they could have come from another planet.  3XfpRV

Thinking this, my line of sight gradually became lost in that complex blue light, and I felt like I was wrapped into a blank space. I didn’t understand where and when I was anymore. Even my mind seemed to be pulled into several silky threads and thrown into the wide, vast cosmic sky, only to be scattered inside a horizon without gravity.

Except, what echoed into my ear was Agares’s rhythmic breathing, which sounded exceedingly distant, yet also seemingly flowing into my ear and resembling the sigh of the sea. However, I couldn’t displace where he was.

When I looked around, I found that I had come to a completely different world. What I saw in front of me was an astonishing, variegated scene that, in all of my life, was unwitnessed, nor could have even fathomed occuring in my life at all—

I was surrounded by ocean water. It was under my feet and over my head. The waves and the water were like flowing clouds, circulating from bottom to top, breaking from the natural gravity. Just looking at it could overwhelm a person entirely, but eventually, it converged together into a huge whirlpool overhead. hGvme8

The place where the Moon, the Sun, and the stars should have hung was instead filled with numerous floating plankton of various indescribable shapes. They were almost transparent, like deep-sea jellyfish, and they radiated brilliant, blue-green light halos around them. They were like countless pairs of intelligent eyes overlooking the earth, shining upon the entire world. Yet they were also like a brilliant shining city in the night, becoming a mirage and floating above one’s head to make people want to gasp in astonishment as well as make one feel like their own existence was lowly and insignificant.

Where was this? Could this possibly be the planet or parallel space where the merfolk lived?

Seeing all of this, I almost forgot to breathe. Instead, I just let my eyes wander around in the air, unrestrained. However, when my eyes fell upon my feet, I couldn’t help but shudder. A sense of coolness diffused from the soles of my feet and went upwards, instantly freezing me into a block of ice.

How could I describe what I saw? The seabed that I was currently residing on was clearly….a huge underwater mass grave! ghX97H

In the white coral forest, countless merfolk corpses, like broken statues, were densely packed together and lying in disarray. Each one overlapped the other as they all lied quietly under my feet in various postures. Their pale bodies were stiff and withered, some of their once wavy fish tails were curled up. Others were straight and some more were still in jumping postures. It was like the effect of a volcano erupting; it looked like they became victims of spewing magma that had solidified their entire bodies.

A few merfolk among the corpses still had their eyes opened and were blankly staring overhead, sending out a little bit of dim lighting through the changing waves from the bottom of the ocean with their long, empty pupils.

This scene struck a great sense of fear into my heart. This place was so vast and strange… but very dead, as if no living thing existed. Even the huge plankton floating overhead seemed to be just a bunch of ghosts now. I couldn’t even hear a single sound except for my own quivering breathing. All of a sudden, it felt like that time during a research project that I had once participated in which required a submarine. I was below one kilometer of the deep sea layer, where everything was similar to what it was right now, completely silent everyday and every night.

  ”Oh…what the hell! What-what’s going on?”  5uPyG0

I cried out as I hugged my arms, “Agares, Agares!”

The echoes of my cries reverberated back from the distance, out from the emptiness, which revealed the discomforting stillness more and more.

Suddenly, the scenery before me changed again after a blue halo shrouded the entire world. There, away in the distance, I saw a translucent “gate.” Perhaps I shouldn’t call it a gate per se, rather it was more like a luminous entrance. I didn’t know where it led to, but from within, I could see sneak peaks of raging flames burning on the ocean water and a bloody, red color that contaminated half the horizon. Everything was blurry in the distorted airflow, however, I could vaguely distinguish two large shadows on the surface of the sea.

I blinked a couple of times, focusing my eyes onto that area. Then slowly, I began to see a difference. TVqmht

There were two mermen. I first recognized Agares. He was closing his eyes with his head slightly raised. At the heart of his chest, like what I saw a few moments ago, it was stirred with blue glowing filaments. Looking at it would make one feel incredible, because they appeared to be some sort of cell-like bacteria, threading their way out of the surface of his translucent skin. I believed it was Agares’s blood, but strangely, they gathered together, like smoke in the air, and formed a small cloud of clustered lights.

It looked very strange, like an enlarged version of some kind of parasitic spore Except, it was the size of a thumbnail.

The other merman was quietly watching all of this, like me. However, his manner and expression showed a kind of piety and devotion.

Just when I vaguely felt the other merman’s silhouette to be a bit familiar, he had already reached out his webbed claws to accept the small thing that was separated from the blood vessel at Agares’s heart. Then he leaped to disappear into the burning entrance. V0JyX

I looked at this scene, and stroked my chest unconsciously. Then I looked down.

Because on my left chest was the natural spore-shaped, light blue birthmark that I was born with.

(Got so much to say, but gonna keep it simple for you guys!) 12v0oa

  1. Oh wow, A lot had happened in these two uploaded chapter! The fact that Agares was willing to lose his own two hands to get to Desharow really…(no words). Do you guys hate Rhine yet, cause I really do. He had literally destroyed Desharow’s whole entire life without a care and it was just infuriating to even translateing those parts. Also I know what you guys might be thinking after you read the last few sentence of Chapter 59…I hope you guys are eagered to find out more! (Theorys are welcomed to be given, just no spoilers please)
  2. A Big Happy Anniversary for Derharow Merman please! I had officially translated Desharow Merman for a FULL year. (Kinda noticed a month late though haha). I can’t believe in this one year our translation team had done so much! Despite loosing some editors and translators along the way, I still feel quite accomplished! It was also through them and our now current crew that we were able to get Desharow Merman so far! Please thank them too and their hard work!
  3. This double update was a big thank you to all the readers who had supported Desharow Merman and our translations till now. I hope you guys continue to love this novel and enjoy our translations!
  4. Do you know what I also realized!? We are now half way through the novel! Yes Yes you heard me right! So most likely, if life goes smoothly with no sudden surprises, Desharow Merman will be full translated by next year’s anniversary!
  5. Not that important, but I will be announcing a hiatus coming soon for me maybe on next week’s upload.

Editor Pigeon: Aha, looks like our Desharow has finally fallen for Agares!!!

Happy Reading!

  1. [He was the only person (oh wait, I meant fish), who could understand the kind of pain and pressure that currently weighed down my shoulders.] I was all sad awws but then this part came and killed me, like srsly, at a time like this?

Anyw, I’m familiar with spores after Little Mushroom, but this chapter has quite a lot of information. So in the end, is Desharow the spore (questionable bc of the mark) or is there a concept of soulmates or smthn in this, since Desharow has the mark from where Agares took out the spore from his own body.

Also, does this mean that the whole merman population (in another world??) was completely destroyed bc of some reason and only 2 mermen, Agares and the other one (red hair one?? Or maybe Desharow’s grandpa which would make Desharow the spore??) were left and Agares is some OP merman and “created” the whole existing merman population? Or did he only “make” that one spore and sent it to this world whoch somehow led to the birth of other mermen??

So many possibilities… And that gate too. Will there be anything about how it came into existence or was it always there or did the mermen somehow get it? And what does it signify for them? Aaahhh, this is getting so interesting!

Thanks for the chapter and once again, happy anniversary and congrats on reaching half of this novel! 🙂

  2. Okay here’s my theory. The mermaids come from another world from which that world experienced an apocalypse like event. Which caused their world to be unliveable and a large amount of them to die off. But because our man’s Argares is mermaid jesus he lead the remaining mermaids to earth as alien refugees. But for some reason Argares gave some or maybe just one (desharows grandad) the ability to transform. Probably to integrate into human society, for alien reasons? So desharow was never fully human but 1 quarter mermaid alien the entire time!

Congratulations on your anniversary! You guys thoroughly deserve it, you’ve done so much hard work bringing these translations every week! Especially today with a full 2 chapters! Thanks so much for bringing such a fun story like this out I love love love reading it!

    • That’s what I’m thinking,it makes the most sense, but I’m wondering how his parents came into play. Are they his real parents? He viewed his grandfather as his father and only has negative memories of his strict and cold (almost unloving?) “Father”

And so far hasn’t recalled any memories of his mother besides the simple info that Agares gave handed him over to them after a shipwreck.

Which parent was the grandfather’s child , the mom or dad? Or were neither of them? (Maybe the grandfather mated with a mermaid and the parents were just care takers?)

Surely whichever one was the grandfather’s kid they would have seen/noticed mutations or something in themselves growing up especially if the father was also involved in the military and diving into the research of the mermaids.

Just with the information we have on his dad and the no information on the mother throws me off who his parents actually are. Plus you think SOMEWHERE down the line the grandfather would have mentioned “by the way you’re mutated, AND…*drumroll * I promised YOUR infant as a sacrifice for mating to an alien sea creature” They would have found out eventually and if they are the parents …. Wouldn’t they have had just like… I don’t know.. a reaction to that?!?! 🤣

  3. Congratulations on your first anniversary on desharow the mermen and thanks for the double update even tho these two chapters has lot of info and my head is muddled and my speculations right now is that may be the place where agares was living something happened which endangered their species and they had to work to open that burning gate as their means for escape and it has resulted in their current position.

As for the mark in desharow’s chest I think may be that the symbol or seal for that promise made by his grandpa to show that he belongs to agares.

    Again thanks for the updates

  4. I’m new here and have fallen in love with this story. It’s so exciting. I read the first 50 plus chapters in one day;-) Thank you for your exceptional work translating for the non-Chinese speakers 😃

  5. Thank you guys so much for the translations! DM is truly fascinating. So many mysteries!

  6. Cool!!!! This is really getting interesting!!!

He’s probably a reincarnation or something.

Thank you so much for the hard work and perseverance on finishing this until the end!!!

We will wait patiently for you once you start the hiatus.

    😘

  7. this chapter bought up so many revelation.

I hated Rhine from the start. he always tried to ra*e desharow every single time. thank You for translating this gem for us
