Dark DesiresChapter 22

Luca collapsed onto the bed, feeling rather restless. The bed felt bigger than usual. Probably because the presence of a certain someone was missing. Luca sighed, turning around. His thoughts drifted back to his lack of aptitude for his magic. It was regretful, that before he was poisoned, his powers were so strong. Now it was all gone. No matter how hard he tried, it always came to the same result.

It was the one thing he hated most about his body now. Not that his life would be shortened, or how he was half-blind, but how a part of himself was taken away from him. In fact, if he still had his magic, he would be able to ‘convince’ the McAllisters to leave Ren alone forever.

Unable to sleep, he decided to just go for a nighttime walk, to get rid of the extra energy. Maybe it would also help him take his mind off of things.  He opened the door, and was taken aback by who he saw.

Ren was standing nervously in front of his room, holding a pillow tightly in his hands.

“S-sorry if I disturbed you.” Ren stuttered.

Luca just blinked.

“I didn’t want to bother you, but . . . There was . . . I had a nightmare and . . .” Ren’s voice died down, seeing Luca wasn’t reacting.

Luca snapped out of his stupor. To think he had come to Luca’s room on his own accord. Luca felt slightly happy at that. All his previous frustration and anger was knocked out of him. But it would be no fun to just let Ren in immediately.

“But I remember someone saying they wouldn’t dare visit my room again?” Luca said, pretending to be angry.

Ren lowered his head.

“Don’t worry. I already said you’re welcome anytime. Besides, I wasn’t tired either.” Luca said,  and moved aside to let Ren in. Ren walked in, and went over to the bed.

He settled his pillow next to Luca’s and climbed onto the bed. He curled up underneath the blanket. Ren felt a lot more relaxed in this comfortable setting.

‘Too cute!’ Luca thought, looking at Ren cuddling in the blankets. He lost all interest in going on a walk, and took his place next to Ren.

“Weren’t you going somewhere?” Ren asked.

“Just planning to take a walk.” Luca answered. “But since you seemed so lonely, I’ll accompany you instead.”

Ren became flustered but didn’t deny it. It was a little bit true, after all.

The two people lay together side by side, sleeping peacefully.

The next few days were uneventful. Luca went to work early in the morning, and came back late in the evening. Ren didn’t feel like going out, despite Luca’s assurances that the McAllisters would leave him alone. Instead, he spent his days sketching and resting.  gdw9nb

He was healing rapidly, and by the fifth day, he didn’t even need the gauze anymore. In a few more days, his skin would be completely smooth.

Ren didn’t feel as happy or eager as the day he would be leaving got closer, like he expected to when he first came to the manor. It was obviously because his relationship with Luca had changed. pZ4IfT

Ren sighed, as he lay down on the couch. He went through Luca’s bookshelf and picked up one of the many mystery novels he owned. It was one way to pass the boredom. His new phone, which Luca had surprised him with after the incident, suddenly vibrated.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

He looked through his emails, and saw that his application for the job he applied for had been accepted. He would start working there next week. Ren felt a bit of anticipation. It would be his first time working, and he was looking forward to it very much. VjUSME

Though, he would have to make sure he looked presentable. Ren was temporarily wearing Luca’s clothes because they were pretty much the same size. Luca had offered to get Ren his own clothes, but Ren refused. Luca had done a lot for him, and didn’t want to be further in the vampire’s debt. He planned on paying Luca back for the phone, medicine, and even giving him a place to stay once he started getting a stable income.

That evening, Luca arrived, looking  paler than usual.  rNEmWX

“Is something the matter?” Ren asked, concerned. Luca was looking more and more stressed lately.

“Just a lot of work to be done.” Luca answered, vaguely, not wanting to think, much less talk about the mess he had to deal with. jnxhtL

The collaboration with Lyzon was much more troublesome than he expected. He had sent the contract over to them, which they had previously agreed to sign, but now they changed their minds. They probably thought just because Luca had acquiesced their request once, he would do it again.

They had grown more bold. Their terms were becoming more unreasonable, to the point the advantages weren’t worth it anymore. The collaboration would most likely fall through, meaning the project would not be able to continue. All the funds spent to start it would go to waste. Gilbert, Wyatt, and him had tried to figure out a solution, and unanimously agreed that it would be better to scrap the project rather than waste more money. Forget it, Luca didn’t want to think about those displeasing thoughts anymore.  heTxr5

They eventually got onto talking about other things, until Luca remembered something important.

“Ah, I almost forgot, we should go see Ari soon.” cT1e2P

“The witch who healed me?”

Luca nodded.  u7nNMi

“Yes, her. I still need to pay her back.”

“Sorry.” Ren muttered enKU1l

“I’m not blaming you, but it’s good you know how to apologize.” Luca said. “I’m just telling you this because you also need to come along to get checked up.”

“. . . Of course.” Ren said, feeling complicated. u6 qyS

They ate the rest of their meal in silence, each occupied in their own thoughts.
