How Did You Guys Become Boyfriends While GamingPrologue

PSN: The author do not go into detail on which champion is being played, but the MOBA played in this novel is mostly inspired from League of Legends (mentioned LCS and manhua showed blurred image of the gameplay). The novel only contains about 10% of actual gaming, so take this as a grain of salt and consider this as my warning for anyone here for esports.

Important things must be said three times.

Moba, or multiplayer online battle arena, generally consists of two teams with five members each as they complete against each other on the game file. Object to victory is either destroy the enemy team’s crystal or make the enemy team surrender. 6vOIQR

LANES

Top Lane: A solo lane usually with champions with a combination of high survivability, high damage or have good engagement.

Mid Lane: A solo lane usually with champions with high burst damage—high amounts of damage in a short period of time. Usually APC or assassin.

Bot Lane: A duo lane that usually contains ADC and support.

ROdSlY

Jungle: The map area outside of the three main lanes.

MAIN ROLES

ADC: Short for attack damage carry. Champion that deals high damage per second (DPS) and typically a glass cannon. ADC is usually a physical damage ranged champion that starts in the bot lane with a support.

Jungler: Champion that farms the monsters in the jungle and looks for opportunity around the map either by ganking, counter ganking, counter jungling (stealing enemy jungler’s jungle monsters), or contesting for powerful neutral monsters. KHcW6n

Support: The ADC’s partner in lane. Support is usually known for their utilities whether for their hard/ soft crowd control (CC), healing/ shielding (temporary HP), or buff/ debuff. Usually the one that sacrifices their income/ resource/ lives for the carries.

Mid: Player playing in the mid lane.

We’re sorry for MTLers or people who like using reading mode, but our translations keep getting stolen by aggregators so we’re going to bring back the copy protection. If you need to MTL please retype the gibberish parts.

Top: Player playing in the top lane.

SUBROLES 240xeG

Carry: Two types. First is the powerhouse that takes the victory for the team. Second is a champion with high damage output but weak early game. First type of carry could be a glass cannon but there are cases of tanks being the carry from early game advantage.

Assassin: Champion whose goal is to kill the carry before the carry can do damage. Close combat champion with high burst damage and usually with low survivability. Role not limited to lane, it all depends on the champion.

Bruiser: Champion with a mix of survivability and damage that could fight a longer period of time while dealing decent damage. This is usually the top laner’s role.

APC: Short for ability power carry; also goes by mage. Champion that deals ability damage either by high burst damage or long range ability to snip enemy’s HP down (or poke).  fEyVMJ

GENERAL LEAGUE OF LEGEND TERMS

Aced: When a team kills the last player alive on the opposing team at a given time, and all the five opposing players are dead at the same time.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Auto: A basic attack, also called a standard, normal, or auto attack. Think of it as a simple wrack!

Baron Nashor: One of the three powerful neutral monsters that reside in the baron pit near top lane. Killing it grants all living teammates a buff that gives bonus attack damage and ability power, empowered recall, and an aura that greatly increases the power of nearby minions. wPpIds

Base: The area in the Summoner’s Rift that is within the wall.

Bush: A map feature found around the rift that obscures vision from outside observers. Upon entering any brush, the player would become partially transparent and enemies outside of that brush would immediately lose sight of the player. Wards, certain skills, units, or if the player in the brush engaged in an attack would reveal the player.

Cover: A player requests for another teammate to hold the player’s lane while they’re not there. Similar to ‘Hold’.

Crowd Control (CC): A type of movement restriction, displacement, or handicapped caused by skills, items, or the environment. A hard CC is where a champion is completely immobilized. Examples would be stun or knock back. While soft CC is where a champion is either immobilized but still can use their spell or able to move but unable to perform at their peak. Examples would be slow, root, or blind. MdZadD

Creep Score (CS): The amount of creeps/ monsters/minions a player has killed.

Crystal: It is essentially the team’s heart, if it is destroyed, it is game over.

Drake: One of the three powerful neutral monsters that reside in the dragon pit near bot lane. It spawns every five minutes. It used to give only gold, then it gave accumulated buff for each kill. Now there are different elemental dragons that provide different buffs (cloud, mountain, infernal, ocean dragon). Elder dragon being the strongest and will only spawn after a team has killed their fourth dragons.

Early/ Late Game Champion: Champion that is stronger early game but falls off late game, and vice versa.  If9j2p

First Blood: The first champion killed in the game. Which would award additional gold between the achiever and player(s) that assist. FIrst turret/ tower is the same concept.

Flash: A summoner spell that teleports a player’s champion in a short distance, from location A to B using the cursor.

Freeze Lane: Holding minions in a specific place, so players could farm without pushing the wave further up or down the lane. Few of the common reasons are to deny your opponent gold and experiences or to farm safely near your turret.

Fountain: Also known as spawn point. The platform where champions spawn, respawn after dying, and teleport to after completing recall. While on this platform, players could purchase items or quickly recover missing health or mana. It is protected by the fountain laser. CNauPF

Gank: Where champion(s) goes to another lane to kill the enemy team with a number advantage or as a surprise. This is usually the jungler’s job. Counter gank is when you gank an enemy who is also ganking your ally.

Health: The health of your champion. Translated as blood, or HP/ health point.

Hold: To keep the lane from pushing into allied defenses. Primarily done by junglers while the laner is away. Similar to ‘Cover’.

Kill: Act of reducing an enemy champion’s HP to zero. The act of killing several champions within 10 seconds of each other (30 seconds for Penta Kill after a Quadra Kill). It goes from Double, Triple, Quadra, and Penta Kill. There is a Hexa Kill but only in special game mode.  wvTHc5

Kill to Death Ratio (KDA): The number of kills, deaths, and assists a player has at any point of time in the game.

Lane Split: When a team moves to a weak or undefended lane to apply pressure by pushing the wave in attempts to gain a tower advantage or force the enemy to send members to stop the lane pusher.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Laning Phase: The period of game where the players, excluding junglers, remain in their respective lanes to farm minions and obtain gold. Each game phase would depend on the remaining turret and the duration of the game (mid game/ late game).

Meta: What the community believed to be the most optimal way to win the game. Either using a certain champion or item. IHnchR

Minion: Units that spawn from the nexus and advance along all three lanes toward the enemy nexus. Killing the enemy team’s minions yields gold for the player. Some minions are worth more than others.

Pick and Ban Phase: Phase before certain games that allow players to ban and pick their champion. Depending on the order and game mode, players could counter ban/ counter pick their opponent. Blue team will ban and pick one first.

QWER: How the player called their skills because of the default key binding. QWE are the three basic abilities. R or ‘ult’, is the ultimate ability that is typically an ability that champions can put a skill point to once they reach level six. It is typically their most powerful ability.

Rank Game: League’s ranking system where it matched players against players of similar levels. Players play ranked matches to increase or decrease their rank. Rank tiers from highest to lowest (when they were added): Challenger (2014), Grandmaster (2019), Master (2014), Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Brone, and Iron (2019). Within each rank, there are four divisions from I being the highest, to IV (pre 2019 update, there was a V division and master & challenger did not have divisions). KWsoqr

Red and Blue buff: Each team gets two jungle camps that give a red and a blue buff. Blue gives increased mana regeneration and reduced cooldown, and red gives a burning effect on auto and increased health regeneration. Killing the champion with the buff would transfer the buff to the slayer.

Recall: Also known as ‘B’ because of its default hotkey, is an ability that all players have with an eight second cast time. If the channel is not interrupted, the champion will be teleported to the fountain. Empowered Recall cuts the time by half.

Smite: A summoner spell that does true damage to a neutral monster(s).

Spawn-killing: The act of killing an enemy in their fountain immediately after they respawn. YysNz

Summoner Spell: From a pool of abilities, players could bring two to the Summoner’s Rift. Flash being the most common and Smite being a must for jungler.

Tank: The action using your character’s health to bear/ take damages, usually without the result of the death of your character. If not, it means you ‘tank too much’ or you ‘done your job and tanked for the team’.

Teleport (TP): A summoner spell that blinks the casing champion to the target allied unit after a few seconds of channeling.

Turret: Also go by tower. Heavy fortifications that attack enemy units on sight and located on the three main lanes. They prioritize enemy minions unless an ally champion takes damage from the enemy champion within a turret range. Depending on the location, they go by outer turret, inner turret, inhibitor turret, or nexus turret. d2Bej

Turret Dive: The act of trying to kill an enemy when they are under the turret.

Ward: An item or trinket that gives vision to a dark area either for a period of time or until the ward is destroyed.

Zoning: Tactics used to prevent enemy champion(s) from gaining gold/experience, by keeping the enemy champion(s) away from farming.

Also, this is just a helpful guide. Again, the author did not go into detail on the game play. It is mostly vague narration. I will edit anything to be as clear and accurate as possible, as well the changes that I made and the reason behind it (like TRF). Vw4huQ

  1. Oooh, so You decided to translate it! ^w^ I remember some of those terms from when my brother played (and sometimes he leave me with this game when he need to go/do something during the match, it was terrible XD), but still I have chaos in my head 😂 It’s good to have few translations, cause we can see the craftsmanship of each translator! So if both of You don’t have a problem with this, it’s good! Hope readers can understand that~ So thank You as always for Your amazing work ❤

  2. Ah, I love reading novels about esports so much, but real-life games (for example, lol) cause me a headache, since I don’t play them. The only thing that connects me to Lol is K/DA, hahah

Thank you so much for making this introduction it will definitely help beginners

  3. Me at beginning of chapter: I will read it thoroughly so I can understand well in future

Me after reading few topics: nvm, I will learn as I read

    • Tbh, just need to know the five roles because those are going to used the most. But they are pretty self explanatory. Anything more is either refer to here or watch for my notes.

    • Hm. Lots of terms, I think I’ll just dive into it even if I don’t play League of Legends since I’m a game developer anyway (and my students most likely have played this). Hoping for fluff. 😂

  4. I have read too many E-sports novel and this is the first time I’ve seen a translator actually took the trouble providing descriptions of the game terminologies. We really appreciate this guide, Teo.

  5. These terms are so professional to me, who played LOL (just casually). It’s really an effort, thank you!

  6. the name Yu Qinghuan has been engraved in my brain too deeply as I love the novel too much to read that 3 times, I have to reset my brain a little bit before jumping into this 😅
