Qiu Yu had that dream again.

In the dream, the person who held him from behind placed his lips against his ear and spoke gently in a lowered voice. He remained encased in the hazy and subtle burning scent of ginger that relentlessly and continuously pushed its way through his defences.

Semi-conscious, Qiu Yu seemed to recognise the other. “…Mu Feibai?”

Different from last time, the person in this dreamscape answered his mutterings. “I’m here.” JpkVY3

Qiu Yu felt extremely uncomfortable everywhere, and took it out on the one in his dream. “Get out.”

The person behind him fell silent for a moment, as though perplexed. “And go where?”

Qiu Yu’s thoughts were slowed down in his dream. After some time to react, he replied hoarsely, “Get the fuck out… of me.”

Mu Feibai: ……

SCafJQ

At this time, Qi Zhefeng had just finished injecting Qiu Yu with supressants. Expressionlessly, his eyes cut towards Mu Feibai.

Seeing this gaze, Mu Feibai’s scalp couldn’t help feeling numb. He instinctively tried to explain, “I’m not… I didn’t!”

Qi Zhefeng raised an eyebrow, “Didn’t what?”

“I didn’t… I don’t know what he’s dreaming of either ah!” fBDjUq

Mu Feibai was already nervous with Qiu Yu wrapped around him—Qiu Yu’s mutterings in his dreams only made his heart beat even faster. As though all his blood flowed straight to his head, he felt a little dizzy. “I didn’t know he would dream of me… Wait, no. Why is he dreaming of me?!”

Qi Zhefeng rose to wash his hands and spoke in an even tone, “If an Omega doesn’t have a specific fantasised target, the person in their eustrus dreams would more or less be the Alpha around them whose pheromores they feel more accepting of. It’s normal for him to dream of you.”

Mu Feibai’s lips moved, “But he…” has an ex though.

He had clearly loved once, so how could he dream of someone else now? WoqCgK

Unless Qiu Yu had never actually loved—but how could that be possible?

Under the effects of the supressents, Qiu Yu’s consciousness slowly returned, only to find that he was still being held in the arms of someone else… Well, to be accurate, he had winded his arms and legs around that person.

Qiu Yu’s eyelids opened and caught Mu Feibai hurriedly shifting his line of sight. Qiu Yu had never seen Mu Feibai’s face this flushed, nor felt his body burning hot like this before. Mu Feibai’s temples were beaded with sweat and his limbs stiff—he was clearly extremely nervous.

“You—you’re awake.” Mu Feibai covertly changed his posture, trying to hide something. d9FtDM

Qiu Yu was a man after all, and thus instantly knew where the sensation was from. He quickly let go and tried to stand up, unavoidably a bit apologetic. “…Sorry.”

Mu Feibai helped Qiu Yu to the bed in the infirmary and instantly let out the breath trapped in his lungs, however nervousness hit him like a wave. He swallowed, but still couldn’t hide the hoarseness of his throat as he spoke, “I’ll be leaving now, have a good rest.”

“What’s up?” He gently closed the infirmary door, cutting off any sounds from the inside.

Outside the door, Mu Feibai wiped a hand across his face, suppressing the untimely eagerness in him and spoke, “Qiu Yu’s ex is pretty good at causing trouble, I would like to… ask uncle to deal with him.”

Qi Zhefeng’s tone was flat. “It would be better to go directly to your elder brother for these kinds of things as opposed to my father.” 1OdiB2

Mu Feibai’s expression turned into one of hesitation, “If I ask my brother to deal with this, he’ll definitely tell my parents. And then they’ll ask me a bunch of questions, it’s so annoying…”

Since he was young, his parents would tease him as long as he spoke an extra sentence to someone with the inclination of differentiating into an Omega in the future. From kindergarten to middle school, they’d ask if he had a crush, causing him to steer far far away from Omegas ever since.

Now that he’s twenty, he still doesn’t know how to answer his parents’ questioning even though he really did like someone—if his family knew before he managed to make the other person fall for him, how awkward would it be if he were rejected?

Qi Zhefeng said, “Since he’s able to cause so much trouble, it’s very likely that that person has a web of connections. If there are any conflicts of interest, my father might not be able to help you. Only your brother would unconditionally and unquestioningly spoil you. Furthermore, your brother’s more ruthless and intimidating than my father, so he can better ensure that that guy won’t come back.” zw4Gqp

Indeed, it was as Doctor Qi said.

Mu Feibai fell silent in contemplation. Since his Aunt passed away, his uncle and his family didn’t visit as often anymore. They weren’t as familiar, so it really was more reliable to ask his brother.

Having made up his mind, Mu Feibai suddenly thought of something. Curiously, he looked towards Qi Zhefeng, “Why are you so familiar with my brother? Aren’t you guys like arch-nemeses?”

Qi Zhefeng huffed, and it was unclear whether it was in laughter or in scorn. lD8bYr

……

The thermometer beeped twice. Qiu Yu glanced at it and placed it by his pillow. 7J 15e

He placed an arm over his eyes, recalling what had happened earlier. His mind was a muddled mess—he could remember every little detail of Wen Zhiyi attacking him, himself inadvertently hurting Du Chen, and then subconsciously tangling himself around Mu Feibai during his heat.

The influence of pheromones was too terrifying.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

He tried to kiss Mu Feibai?

So when Omega faces an Alpha, not only can they not trounce the other in fighting prowess, even their consciousness would be addled, such that they would do things they would never do under normal circumstances. And Qiu Yu couldn’t even place the blame on Mu Feibai—he was trying to help him, Qiu Yu was the one who wrapped himself around the other and even actively tried to kiss Mu Feibai. All in all, it was actually Qiu Yu who did the forcing.  gNswLj

At this time, Qiu Yu hadn’t thought of how he had been carried to the infirmary by Doctor Qi twice during heat, yet never tried to tangle himself around Doctor Qi. Furthermore, when Du Chen tried to help him up after Wen Zhiyi pounced at him, his first reaction was to wave a knife and remove the source of danger.

It was only when he recognised Mu Feibai did he finally relax.

Doctor Qi pushed the door open, entered, and held up the thermometer by Qiu Yu’s pillow. His tone was calm as usual, “It’s alright, nothing else is wrong. Your heat was brought forward by the pheromones of a familiar Alpha, but thankfully he hadn’t marked you yet so the suppressants still work.”

Qiu Yu fell silent for a while, and asked, “Can I still play in the competition tomorrow?” ObXEsf

Qi Zhefeng deadpanned. “What do you think?”

Qiu Yu knew that he couldn’t play tomorrow.

Even with suppressants and insulation of the game cabin, the side effects of his heat were difficult to ignore. He would probably be fine for training matches or ranked games, but in the Star League finals arena, a single mistake could cost them the entire competition.

Moreover, the game cabin would bring extra pressure onto his physique, thus he might not be able to hold on for two consecutive games under the combined adverse effects of his heat and the game cabin.  0XEZhr

“I really can’t use emergency suppressants?” Qiu Yu asked in a low voice.

“Do you want to put a stop to monitoring?” Qi Zhefeng’s tone was even. “There needs to be a month between using emergency suppressants and starting the monitoring process. Soon after the game is the Star Alliance Cup, can you guarantee that your heat won’t coincide with the Star Alliance Cup? If you use emergency suppressants every time there’s a game, you may as well give up on the surgery.”

After a moment of silence, Qiu Yu responded. “Never mind then.”

Qi Zhefeng replied, “Don’t think too much. Have a good rest, I’ll send you back.” QBMagf

Qiu Yu fell silent for some time and then asked again, “As for other methods…”

Qi Zhefeng interrupted him on a rare occasion. “Temporary marking.”

He paused, then continued, “Can you accept that?”

Qiu Yu didn’t say anything further. kLtWwB

He Jingxing and Yuan Lu assisted the police with Wen Zhiyi’s matter while Qiu Yu was escorted by Doctor Qi back to his room.

Recalling what happened in the afternoon, he messaged Du Chen: [I’m sorry, for injuring you.]

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Du Chen didn’t think that his first message from Qiu Yu would be in these circumstances.

The wound at his neck wasn’t as severe as it looked. Blood gushing out from these more fragile places of the body looked extremely scary, but he didn’t even need to bother Doctor Qi and just asked doctors residing in the league headquarters for assistance. odgx9P

After staring at his bracelet for a moment, Du Chen replied: [It’s alright.]

He couldn’t resist following it up with another message: [How are you?]

He felt it was too abrupt after sending the text and quickly covered up his concern: [It won’t impact tomorrow’s game, right?]

Qiu Yu: [Sorry, I won’t be able to play tomorrow.] NXRasp

If he couldn’t play tomorrow, it would be because his heat period was triggered.

Du Chen knew the reason in his heart, yet he suddenly hated his sensitivity in these matters.

The image of Qiu Yu facing off against an Alpha, knife in hand, suddenly rose up in his mind. Slowly, Qiu Yu’s face merged with another in his memories. That person’s lips curved upwards in a prideful smile as she said to him, “What are you blindly worrying about? This kind of scummy Alpha can’t hurt your jie, your brother-in-law taught me a lot of things!”

That face suddenly switched angles. Basked in the blood-red glow of the sun, her eyes stared at the crimson medal of martyrdom. The sob in her voice was difficult to hide. “Chen Chen, your jie wants to undergo a surgery. You’ll help me to convince mom and dad, won’t you?” tJ8TF1

Du Chen’s heart was instantly filled with frustration: [Why must you force yourself? Why do you have to come to play in the professional league?]

He stared at the message he sent for a while before he hurriedly tried to recall it.

However, Qiu Yu’s reply had already arrived: [There’s no rule that an Omega can’t play in the professional league.]

All of a sudden, Du Chen was pricked in his still-bleeding wound. It was as though he could hear his sister’s words in a loop in his ear—“Who made it a rule that Omegas can’t learn to fight? I like it and your brother-in-law likes teaching it, so what about it!” j7LWp4

Du Chen gritted his teeth: [Your physique isn’t at all suited for playing in the league! You know your own state after every competition, why don’t you take care of yourself? And aren’t you aware that your heat period is also affecting the competition now?]

After a moment, Qiu Yu asked: [So are you concerned for me or for the competition?]

This person was so… annoying!

Du Chen’s heartbeat fell out of rhythm—probably due to anger and he fiercely turned off his bracelet. TSpqL0

After quite some time, he reopened their conversation and sent: [Of course for the competition! Captain made a bet with Tang Weiran for tomorrow’s competition!]

Qiu Yu saw this sentence and slowly sighed.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Of course, he also remembered that bet. Moreover, he even remembered how he teased Mu Feibai with this exact scenario. Perhaps it was because he said it, he inexplicably had the illusion at the bottom of his mind that he should assume some portion of responsibility for this sudden complication as well as tomorrow’s competition.

His bracelet buzzed a couple more times. Qiu Yu thought it was Du Chen being teased until his fur exploded again, however, these messages were from Xu Qingqing instead— ARJnqe

[Wow! Someone organised a support group for tomorrow’s finals! (link)(link)(link)]

[They literally planted an entire field of flowers, does this person own a mining star or something?! Wuuuuu this is too beautiful you have to look! There’s also that artwork three meters in diameter, they said they’ll bring it to the arena to give to you as a gift ah!]

[My blood is boiling from looking at all of this hahaha! Eagle Riders will definitely win! Eagle Riders for the crown! You guys are the strongest!]

Tn: Qiu Yu isn’t the most perfect MC, and he can be a little (quite) frustrating at times… but he does get better! Although progress is slow (like so far Qiu Yu has only just started feeling like a person living in this world and not a spectator), he is improving~ (❁´◡`❁)

  1. Thank you for the chapter!

I’m very curious about Du Chen’s sister, and I actually feel really bad for them both (。•́︿•̀。)

  2. I don’t find Qiu Yu frustrating at all. Being controlled to that extreme a degree by a primitive drive like estrus – just like the disgusting, mindless desperation of a female cat in heat – is an utterly repulsive situation, which would completely strip a person of personal choice, freedom or preference. I find it more incomprehensible and frustrating that any omega would not want their gland removed. But then, I don’t find that kind of bestial, involuntary attraction romantic.

    • +1 I feel like he’s behaving perfectly reasonably, especially as someone who wasn’t born in an omegaverse world, not to even mention coming from an apocalyptic setting. I prefer this type of MC who actually carefully considers things and separates his emotions from an involuntary biological response.

  3. sounds to me like du chen’s brother-in-law died in duty (probably a policeman?) and his sister wanted to cut out her gland to be able to defend herself, maybe for revenge, or continue her husband’s mission? as for how that ended… seeing du chen’s reaction, it was probably not a happy ending 🥲

  4. thank you very much for the chapter. i actually like qiu yu’s slow development. it makes for a refreshing change of pace compared to MC’s who adapt immediately to their ‘new world’ emotionally. His initial dissonance(?) and now finally ‘connecting’ to this world was really satisfying to witness. looking forward to the next one (will he go for the temporary mark? 😚😚)

  5. I think he’s adjusting remarkably well to rather horrible circumstances…between suddenly having heats and that disgusting ex. Thanks for the update ❤️❤️❤️

  6. Dear Translator, I really like this MC!! I think he is stubborn as a the soldier he is and one has to understand his circumstanced as well!! He is just acting as himself, imagine having to suit yourself to a heat period!! I think he has managed it pretty well and he is trying his best. I really love a badass MC. Thank you for the translation.

  7. I find the mc completely reasonable, it would be more weird if he easily accepted the status quo since he was a soldier and from an apocalyptic world at that.

The monitoring period before the surgery is what’s frustrating to me.
