Two hours later, Nabu and River lay under the covers, cuddling. Nabu ran his hand through River’s hair, enjoying how their scent mixed from the earlier activity.
He knew that running away would make him seem guilty. But, what choice did he have? His family would never let him go, even if investigators proved his innocence. They would most likely chain him down, making it impossible for him to leave while his sisters thought of another way to fuck with him.
Nabu could not allow that to happen when he had two essential people in his life—River and Kiyt.
He could not see himself without them. And even though he knew he pushed River deeper into another problem, he still did not want to change his choice.
The beta in his arms is his world, and he would never leave or stop loving him until the day River tells him to stop. And would he want to stop? No, but he would do anything for River.

Nabu heard the bedroom door opening as Prince Cyn walked in. He could not see what was happening, but he could still hear.
“Is there a body I need to dispose of?” Nabu heard Ghost greeting Prince Cyn.

“Do you need medical attention?” Ghost asked, not saying anything about what the other person said. Honestly, it seemed like Ghost ignored the person.
But, that is what Nabu interpreted since he could only hear the conversation and not see it.
“No, this is only a love mark from my omega.” Prince Cyn replied, sounding crazy.
“I am not yours.” The person instantly replied, which went ignored.
“Ah, but I did cause some trouble for later. And my omega finished what I wanted him to do; although, I did hear something interesting, like a prince missing.” Prince Cyn spoke, causing Nabu to stiffen behind the bathroom door. He resembled a statue as he barely moved and breathed.
“Listening around, I did hear something about that.” Ghost admitted, but he gave nothing else away. It is his job to gather intel, so it would be silly to lie and say he hasn’t heard about it.
Nabu heard footsteps but could not tell where they went. But he knew that they were thankfully not near the bathroom door.
Prince Cyn hummed, “I went to dinner last night with the other royals, and I noticed Prince Nabu was missing. Do you think he is the missing prince?” He sounded like he knew something.
“It could be. The guards have been tight-lipped about the name, but if you wanted one, I could get it.” River kept a straight face, his voice barely wavering.
“No, you don’t have to. The missing prince is working in our favor; the guards are in disarray and inharmonious. They could barely keep the event in check, meaning we have the free reins to ruin it. Have you ever seen mass poisoning? It would suck if something like that happens here, and King Galot would have to deal with rowdy citizens, nobles, and royals.
“It would almost seem like his true goal is to take out the other royals. Why else would he invite them each year to build trust within them?” Prince Cyn hinted towards his wants.
“I will get it done.” River responded, instantly catching Prince Cyn’s meaning.
“I know you will because you are loyal to me, River. Loyal until I say you can leave.” Then Prince Cyn left as Nabu guessed the other person with him followed.
Nabu and River could hear the threat under Prince Cyn’s words. He knew. Prince Cyn did not have to say it, but he knew that Nabu was with River. And for now, he is letting the lies slide.
Once the bedroom door closed, Nabu put on his clothes before stepping out of the bathroom. He saw Ghost sitting on the bed with his head in his hands. “Prince Cyn is not a stupid man; he knows Nabu.”
Nabu grabbed Ghost, holding him, “I know, but at least he hasn’t done anything. Maybe, I could sneak back with you without any problems.”
“For now. With Prince Cyn, there is always something. If it benefits him, he will use it to his advantage.” Then, Ghost picked up his head before moving out of Nabu’s hold. “I need to get started on Prince Cyn’s order.”
Nabu bit his lip. Even though he was leaving everything behind, these were still his people. He did not know how to feel about them getting poisoned.
And Ghost saw his worry because he grabbed his hand, squeezing it, “Don’t worry; he told me to poison them, not kill them. They will only grow sick enough to make them suspicious of your father. But, know this, Nabu, you cannot ask me to stop because I cannot defy Prince Cyn.”
“I won’t ask you to stop.” Nabu shook away his thoughts. “Be safe and hurry back.” If Nabu had to choose between his people and Ghost, he would always pick Ghost.
“I will.” Ghost replied before walking away.
Nabu wished they could go back to two hours ago, where they were in each other’s arms, forgetting about the outside world for a moment.
Next chapters, we will see how rowdy Prince Cyn and 49 got. Then, a chaotic event.
