Escape From the LibraryCh24 - Research Group 07

Ke Shaobin was busy helping the three senior brothers to change their dormitories, when he heard the message ‘the class schedule has been released’ ringing in his ears, he adjusted his glasses in confusion and asked, “Isn’t tomorrow Sunday? Do we still have classes?”

Liu Zhaoqing complained, “This library doesn’t give us two-day weekend ah.” r7OQLB

Zhuo Feng said, “Let’s move the dormitory first. After that, we still have time to rest in the afternoon.”

Ke Shaobin opened the dormitory panel, and the three of them went up in turn to scan their fingerprints, and the message ‘dormitory change successful’ popped up on the screen. Zhuo Feng and Xu Yishen went together to move their luggage from area A, while Ke Shaobin followed Liu Zhaoqing to help him pack in area D.

They had just moved into the dormitory a couple of days ago and had only two sets of change of clothes and toiletries in addition to their bed sheets and quilt, which they carried back and forth twice. After arriving at Ke Shaobin’s new F-930 dormitory, the four of them quickly packed up their beds and toiletries.

Then, Ke Shaobin opened the tablet and looked at the class schedule for Sunday, his eyes widened slightly, “There’s still Public Elective Courses?” hQCva2

The other three came over to look at it, and Liu Zhaoqing held his forehead helplessly, “Is this library trying to play the role of a Magic University? Even the Public Elective Course is here!”

As soon as he said this, a mechanical voice rang in his ears, “The Research Group has a new message, please check.”

The hover box in the upper left corner popped up an ‘unread message’ alert, and both of them clicked on it at the same time, it was from Yue Xingwen: “Have you guys finished moving to the dorm yet? After moving, take a nap and take a break first, and then discuss which public elective course to choose in the afternoon.”

Ke Shaobin replied: “Okay Xingwen, the three seniors have moved over.”

Xi Yishen ignored the public elective’s class schedule and simply lay flat on the bed. “I’ll take a nap first, that brother last night made me sleepless until 3 o’clock, I’m sleepy.” He yawned and got under the covers, and the others also slept one after another.

Yue Xingwen and Jiang Pingce also took a nap and got up at 2:00pm in the afternoon.

At 2:30pm, Liu Zhaoqing sent a message to the Research Group: “Have you woken up? Zhuo Feng told you two to come over to the F-930 room to discuss, and we’ll talk about the course selection directly in the dorm.”

It was convenient to know the dormitory room number so that they could visit each other. BOyTo3

When Yue Xingwen and Jiang Pingce went over, everyone had already arrived, and Lin Manluo had also come.

The library’s dormitory area did not restrict the entry of students of the opposite sex like in the school, and the female students did not need to register to enter the male students’ dormitory. There were male and female students in the dormitories in area A to H, and each dormitory room was locked with a fingerprint, so there was nothing to worry about in terms of security.

Ke Shaobin also took the initiative to bring stools to the three visitors, while the others sat on the bed.

Lin Manluo said, “The meeting room in the Research Group Center will cost 10 points for one time, and it can be used to buy a box of lunch. It’s really convenient for the four of you to live together, so if we need to discuss anything in the future, just come to room F-930.” a YHzV

Sending messages to people in the Research Group did not consume points, so it really saved points to notify each other that way.

Yue Xingwen and Jiang Pingce looked at each other and said, “I want to choose the afternoon <Cross-country Orienteering> with Pingce, didn’t we play Orienteering before for our Student Council’s team building? This kind of wilderness activity should be a survival course, and just the thing for everyone to hone in on.” He paused and added another sentence. “And mostly, I don’t understand <Jewelry Appreciation> at all.”

Liu Zhaoqing laughed and rubbed the back of his head, “Jewelry? I only know rubies and sapphires. What other agates, cat’s eyes, emeralds, jade, I really have no ability to appreciate ah!”

“Xingwen’s research group chose to go to <Cross-country Orienteering>, what about us?” Zhuo Feng’s inquiring gaze looked at Lin Manluo and Xu Yishen. Since the two Research Groups were currently separate and not officially merged, they were not necessarily matched to one class even if they signed up for the same course, they could choose the courses separately.

Lin Manluo thought about it and said, “Didn’t we take a Public Elective course on <Jewelry Appreciation> at school last year? The one that professor Chen opened, do you remember?”

Since the public elective course was not limited to grades or majors, students of different majors could choose one course and take classes together. Zhuo Feng and Lin Manluo’s relationship had always been very good, and it was normal for them to take a public elective course together.

Xu Yishen smiled and said, “Coincidentally, I also took this course in my second-years, and I still remember some basic theory. However, the library <Jewelry Appreciation> is definitely does not let us identify real or fake jewelry, I feel it will be more like a reasoning class?”

Lin Manluo frowned and said, “For the reasoning class, is it a matter of determining the real or fake jewelry from known clues, or is it simply a jewel theft case where we will be asked to find the stolen jewels? Either way, it won’t be simple.”

Zhuo Feng said, “It’s okay to fail this public elective course, and I’m still quite interested in this <Jewelry Appreciation> course. Don’t forget, there is a class limit for public elective courses. The library has more than 20,000 students, and only 10,000 students will be accepted for the public elective course this week, which means a failure rate of getting the course is 50%. Relatively speaking, there should be fewer students choosing <Jewelry Appreciation>, and the competition for <Cross-country Orienteering> will be more intense.” V raPv

Yue Xingwen agreed. “Senior is right, I reckon that most of the students in this library don’t know anything about jewelry and won’t take the morning <Jewelry Appreciation> course, so if we all grab the afternoon public elective course together, the failure rate will be very high. For our two Research Groups, we should take the classes separately for double insurance. Even if one team can’t get it, the other team still can get it?”

“Yeah.” Ke Shaobin nodded in agreement. “All three of you have taken jewelry-related courses before, so you have an advantage over other students.”

The three of them looked at each other, and Zhuo Feng clapped his hand and simply made a decision. “That’s it. Our Research Group will choose the morning <Jewelry Appreciation> and Xingwen, your Research Group will choose the afternoon <Cross-country Orienteering>. There is no loss if one group can successfully select a course. A 2-credit public elective course shouldn’t be too difficult, and it’s good to gain some points for the team’s daily expenses.”

Xu Yishen smiled and said, “The best thing about public elective courses is that you don’t have to retake the course if you fail it, and there’s no punishment, so consider it a special experience.” R2cQYj

Lin Manluo looked at Ke Shaobin and asked, “Xiao Ke, if the whole school opens the course selection at 8pm and everyone picks a course together, this competition is too competitive, can it only be competed with hand speed? Do you have any kind of auto clicker software in your Computer Department?”

Yue Xingwen was also curious. “The software that clicks automatically should be faster than our manual clicks.”

Ke Shaobin adjusted his glasses and said seriously, “The library system will automatically block all external software and programs from the Computer Department, I’ve just tried it, the firewall of this intelligent system is too powerful to decipher.”

Thinking about it, the entire library building was managed by an intelligent system, running in orderly fashion. If the Computer Department could decipher this system, wouldn’t they be able to hack the library and get all the students out in minutes? 6759I1

Yue Xingwen dismissed the idea of using external software for the shortcut, and sighed lightly. “It seems that we can only fight with our hand speed, at 8pm in the evening, sign up for it immediately. Our Research Group is C-183, Young Ke, you can register it, I have an average hand speed.”

Ke Shaobin tapped on the computer everyday to write code, and that was really ‘moving fingers as if flying’. Yue Xingwen entrusted the heavy responsibility to him, and Ke Shaobin nodded in agreement, “En. I’ll keep time to sign up.”

In the afternoon, everyone went back to their respective rooms to rest.

Yue Xingwen opened the tablet computer and wanted to check some orienteering related materials, but the library network could not be connected to the external network, and search sites like Baidu and Sogou could not be opened, so it was impossible to get information from the outside world. 0GBX4R

Everyone could only open the library’s network. He found that the ‘library network’ actually had a ‘forum’ entry, so he clicked on it to see. There were many posts, many students were posting to find teammates for the Research Group, there were also a few sporadic posts discussing tomorrow’s public elective courses.

Among them, there was a popular post marked with HOT sticker——

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“Cross-country Orienteering related general knowledge, the students who want to choose this course have to take a look.”

Yue Xingwen clicked in, the poster was a student named Qin Lang from the Physics Department of Binjiang Normal University. The post was written in great detail: “Orienteering is an outdoor sports project that uses tools such as maps and compasses to quickly reach various target locations with a fixed range through various obstacles on the way, complete the tasks in each location and finally reach the destination. 1QgxAK

Keywords: 1. Outdoor maps; 2. Target tasks; 3. Reach the destination at the specified time.

Many universities have similar team activities, such as Student Council’s team building and class outing. Some students might have played cross-country orienteering, but dont forget that we are now in the library. It is impossible for the library to let us have a relaxing time and entertain them to go for a round trip in the wild.

My personal guess is that, the orienteering this time will be a competitive course that will be divided into teams according to the Research Group, so that everyone can compete for the props of the target point, or the team races, and the team who runs to the finish line first will get a high score, and the team who can’t reach the end would fail the course.

It is recommended that you should sign up as a Research Group. It will be difficult to pass the course alone. eH1POB

If you don’t have confidence in the competition, you should go to the morning <Jewelry Appreciation>, at least that course doesn’t have to compete with other groups, more like a reasoning class such as a jewel theft case and so on.

However, this is just my personal guess, and I won’t be responsible for my own remarks.  I wish you all success in your course selection.”

This senior should also be well-intentioned in posting this general knowledge, and trying to make students aware of the difficulty of the <Cross-country Orienteering> course.

Yue Xingwen had played orienteering in his second-year of university when the Student Council was going out for team building activities. He remembered, at that time they were sent into a deep mountain forest, and were given a map, letting them walk to the end. klxXDh

The library’s orienteering was certainly not too easy.

Yue Xingwen frowned in thought for a moment and said, “Will the library drop us off on a deserted island and make us find the finish line while creating an existential danger for us at the same time? For example, beast attacks and food shortages, these should also be taken into account, right?”

Jiang Pingce replied, “That’s right, when the Student Council went to play orienteering, the map was not big and it was over in one day. In case the library uses a big map and the orienteering will last for several days, food and shelter will be a problem then.”

“Do we have to prepare some supplies in advance ah?” Yue Xingwen looked at him and asked, “Buy a backpack, bring some water, biscuits, milk and the like, in case it takes several days. We can’t walk with a hungry stomach.” OAz0sV

Jiang Pingce nodded and said. “En. Let’s wait for Ke Shaobin to sign up for the course selection in the evening, and then go buy supplies after we successfully sign up for the course.”

On Saturday afternoon, the students did not have the heart to rest properly; Everyone was staring at the forum and tomorrow’s public elective courses. After that classmate Qin posted the orienteering tips, some students also sent the basic knowledge of Jewelry Appreciation.

Watching the extra posts in the forum discussing public elective courses, Yue Xingwen could not help but think of the forum of Hua’an University, where every time there was a final exam, there were always senior brothers and senior sisters who were kind enough to send some review materials to everyone.

Their school’s forum also had a summary of the annual final exam papers, so they could spend more time memorizing some of the questions that had a high repetition rate. uM4ZFP

The university was such an amazing place, where enthusiastic senior brothers and senior sisters would take great care of the new students, and when the new students became seniors, they would go on to take care of the next batch of new students, and so on for the next batches. Most of the senior brothers and senior sisters would not be stingy about sharing their experiences and exams to the next batch of students.

Unexpectedly, in the crisis-ridden library now, Yue Xingwen actually saw these experiences shared on the forum.

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

It seemed that everyone was not psychopathic and panicked because they were pulled into the library. After experiencing the trials and tribulations of the Faculty of Medicine, students living in the freshman dormitories had gradually adapted to the library’s atmosphere. They still retained the same habits they had in university, and they were willing to share their experiences with other students, so that people know that they were not alone in this library.

At 7:30pm. zQJCdk

Ke Shaobin opened his laptop and logged onto the library’s network.

He had never been so nervous. When choosing a course in university, it was up to him to choose a course or not, now he was representing the C-183 Research Group!

Time passed minute by minute.

Ke Shaobin’s nerves were tense and he stared at the clock. Once 8pm arrived, the course selection channel opened in time, and he immediately selected the course <Cross-country Orienteering> with lightning speed, and entered detailed information about the Research Group. His fingers were so fast and made other people dazzled, and he finished the course selection in just 3 seconds. 2kHP7L

After 10 seconds, a prompt appeared on the screen that said ‘the number of students in the public elective class is full, you cannot select the class’.

Then, the Research Group channel received the system message——

[C-183 Research Group, successfully sign up for the public elective course <Cross-country Orienteering>. Please go to the Public Elective Center on the 5th floor of the library before 13:55pm on Sunday afternoon to sign in, all the members of the Research Group must be present, you will be disqualified if there is a person who is late for the exam. This course is uniformly issued with costumes and props, no other tools are allowed to be brought into the examination room, asking the team leader to confirm]

Yue Xingwen was stunned, looked at Jiang Pingce and said with helpless expression, “Uniformly distributed the costumes and props? I was going to buy some food, but it looks like I won’t be able to bring anything in!” Fc86rD

Jiang Pingce furrowed his brows and said, “This course may be more difficult than we thought.”

What would be the content of this public elective course?

  1. I like how everyone is a lot friendlier here than in other infinite flow type novels. Maybe because everyone is a University Student, and its nornal for uni students to share past exam papers, work and study together, and share tips for free.

Everyone is also a lot more united in their experiences (uni student, age range, etc)

    • I feel the same way! It’s really lovely to have such a welcoming, supportive community rather than one that’s cut throat full of black-bellied, white-eyed wolves.

Reminds me almost of the atmosphere from, Global University Entrance Examination. Except in that story not only were there students, but it was a mix of normal civilians.

  2. Hm…even though I know nothing about jewellery I would’ve picked Jewellery Appreciation just because I never want to run around some wilderness area😬🐜🐍🐝🐒🐅
