MC: Eugène Lothair de Chastan (35 years old) – He is mainly referred to as ‘Baron Amieux’ in the novel. A self-made figure from the fallen nobility, he is a capable soldier. Overall, he is a man of a serious solder-like nature and is safety-conscious, however, an adultery scandal involving his wife and the imperial family changes his life. ML: Ebroin Jean-Baudin Redenise Gerson de Ardi (32 years old) – He is primarily referred to as the ‘Emperor’ or ‘Your Majesty’ in the novel. Sometimes referred to as Ebroin V, but rarely called by his full name. Although called the most beautiful man in the world, he ascended the throne at an extremely young age and was thoroughly raised as a monarch due to which he’s not the best at expressing and feeling personal desires. The Imperial Family

Prince Merrick, The Duke of Fernand – The Emperor’s paternal cousin. The son of Grand Duchess Alienor and a member of the imperial family. Sixth in the line of succession to the throne. Louise’s lover and the father of her unborn child.

Grand Duchess Alienor – The Emperor’s paternal aunt and primary antagonist. The mother of Prince Merrick, who also goes by the title, The Duke of Fernand. Head of the central nobility faction.

Alexandrine, Marquise Merlin – The first lover and concubine of the Emperor. She is the daughter of the Marquis of Carbo, the other head of the central nobility faction. She is usually described to be lively and clever with dark black hair and dark eyes.

Anne Henriette, Marquise Lamott – The second concubine of the Emperor and the daughter of the Marquis of Despan.

Adelaide, Countess Patrí – The third and final concubine of the Emperor with a humble background as the daughter of a merchant. She is nicknamed ‘Lady of The Ivory’ for her beautiful arms.


Acquainted with Eugène

Louise Marie de Dumont (previously de Chastan) – Eugène’s ex-wife and the niece of the Marquis of La Baille. She is the daughter of Baron Dumont, a humble aristocrat, and brother of the Marquise of La Baille. Prince Merrick’s lover and the mother of his unborn child.

Oscar Valentiée, Count d’Estuaire – Eugène’s third cousin as their mothers were second cousins. Nobleman from the east, whose family was once extremely influential.

Marquis of La Baille – Louise’s uncle and Eugène’s biggest supporter until the Emperor. He is the Navy’s Admiral of the Fleet, the highest-ranked officer.
