Qiao Siqi had no idea how he ultimately clambered in and was still dazed when he was deposited on the floor.

Zhou Yilu didn’t have time to be concerned with his mental status and seeing that the other made it in, he immediately let go. While he rotated his shoulder to ease the soreness brought about by the tugging motion, he trotted over to the front and back doors in the distance to seal them up securely at the same time.

After completing this series of actions, Zhou Yilu pressed the switch on the wall.

In an instant, the lights shone brightly. j3Q5 f

Qiao Siqi realized that he wasn’t in a classroom like he had assumed, but more like an exhibition room. There were no tables or chairs in this enormous space, only compact display classes that seemed to have been arranged randomly but actually quite ingeniously. There were various styles of miniature architectural models in the booths. They couldn’t be labeled as exquisite, but were all diligently made, traditional, modern, ostentatious and magnificent, or subtle and graceful, to the extent that even a layman like him could comprehend the creator’s mind.

However, obviously these models weren’t expensive because there were no protective measures such as transparent covers, only a small and short balustrade encircling the model, at most only ten centimeters high, which could be regarded as an implied warning for strangers to not touch it.

Yi?

Qiao Siqi discovered belatedly that the creator’s information was posted on the lower right corner of these miniature display cases. Like the one in front of him was labeled XX grade architectural class 1-Wang Donghan.

HwxtBY

With strange forces at work, Qiao Siqi had a peculiar premonition and advanced forward one by one, finally finding the three words Zhou Yilu posted in the lower right corner of the fourth stand.

That was an architectural model that Qiao Siqi couldn’t understand at all. There was a hint of modernity in tradition, abstraction in modernity, affection in abstraction, and a sense of alienation amidst affection. All in all, if this structure really took shape one day, Qiao Siqi felt that it would definitely rank as the Top 1 among the upper ten ranks of the most appalling buildings in China.

“Zhou Yilu, it’s not that I have something against you. . .” Qiao Siqi, who wanted to engage in an in-depth exchange of his fellow comrade’s aesthetic standards, just turned half of his body when the second half of his sentence was stopped abruptly, the only thing left was his widened eyes, pale face, and trembling lips.

With his back against the window, Zhou Yilu was still waiting for the criticism from the masses, yet he waited for a long time and didn’t hear the following rhetoric, only to see Qiao-guniang‘s beautiful face blanch. At once, good fortune favored the mind, he whirled around whilst attacking! wrif0Y

However it was already too late, the zombie wasn’t facing him directly, rather it was coming up the side of the window thus Zhou Yilu’s attack only stabbed at air and it was at that exact moment when he struck that the zombie slipped into the room!

It was too late to retract the spear and launch another attack, Zhou Yilu could only watch as the zombie pounced towards him!

Guang

The exact timing at which Qiao Siqi ran over, Zhou Yilu didn’t notice at all, but when he finally saw clearly, the other had already swooped over, morphed into a bullet and rammed straight into the zombie’s stomach. f2MiuE

The zombie staggered backwards due to the charge.

Qiao Siqi didn’t ease up on the strength he exerted at all and kept pushing forward until the opponent was sprawled on the ground!

However, he himself also lost his own balance and fell on top of the zombie!

Which zombie would refuse their prey’s voluntary embrace? It stretched out two arms to wrap around Qiao Siqi tightly and with a shift in force, it turned the tables and pushed the other underneath its body. DogvrL

Qiao Siqi was very unused to this sort of position and inexplicably felt a strong sense of shame.

In this fleeting moment of stupefaction, the zombie had already gnawed on his shoulder!

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Qiao Siqi only felt a jolt of pain and then tried his best to overturn the zombie trapping him, yet too bad the opponent’s build was so sturdy that it didn’t budge at all. Furthermore, his knife had long since fallen onto the floor beside him when he fell and was now too far and out of his reach.

The zombie didn’t taste meat in one bite and howled extremely violently in anger, then as if realizing something, it began to vigorously slap Qiao Siqi’s mask! f83PJx

With the first hit, Qiao Siqi was so shaken that his skull went numb, in the blink of an eye and a couple of strikes later, Qiao Siqi was already dizzy and developed tinnitus while the zombie brought out its determination that it wouldn’t give up until it shattered the gas mask!

Guang!

The moment the zombie dislodged Qiao Siqi’s protective goggles and was just about to smack them off in the next second, Zhou Yilu arrived just in the nick of time and pierced through the back of the zombie’s skull, the momentum of which made the zombie’s head take the place of its hand to knock heavily against Qiao Siqi’s gas mask.

Zhou Yilu dragged the zombie off and pulled Qiao Siqi up. L2pw0y

The rescued Qiao-tongxue burst into tears of gratitude: “Why didn’t you wait until it finished munching on me before you came!

Zhou Yilu had seen posers, but he’s never seen such fakers before. The tip of his knife was still stained with the blood of several other zombies who attempted to climb up just now, but there was no time to explain to Qiao-guniang what other things he had done for the sake of their safety in a place not visible to the other.

“This place is no longer safe, we must leave at once!” After he finished, Zhou Yilu didn’t bother waiting for Qiao Siqi’s reaction before he yanked his comrade to his feet and sprinted for the door!

Qiao Siqi’s wits had already come around, because there was no glass, there would be a steady stream of former students from the department of the arts crawling in, so it was unsuitable to stay here for a prolonged period of time. But his body lagged behind his mind and after being forced to trot a few steps with Zhou Yilu, he couldn’t keep up with the pace and lost his balance. He fell like a tree and just so happened to sprawl right onto his comrade’s display case. EJ4OVC

The fragile architectural model was crushed into a mess by Qiao Siqi.

What was also smashed into smithereens was Zhou Yilu’s heart.

“My model assignment! The professor hadn’t even graded it yet ahhhh—”

Qiao Siqi clambered to his feet clumsily, endured the pain in his chest and spread his hands innocently while feeling a twinge of guilt: “Banana Peel Planet citizen, you understand.” WynpOZ

“. . .” When he finds the opportunity, he’ll definitely nail a non-slip grip onto the soles of this bastard’s feet!!!

There was no time to mourn his homework. Zhou Yilu resisted the urge to slap his comrade to death with one hit, swiftly opened the door a crack and scanned the corridor.

Qiao Siqi knew he was in the wrong and just obediently stuck behind him.

A minute later. T4k1 0

Qiao Siqi’s remorse was ground away by his patience as he urged in a low voice: “Exactly what’s the situation ah?”

Zhou Yilu had already squinted to the point where his eyes couldn’t narrow anymore, only it was too bad the hallway wasn’t lit and the winding design of the Luban Building passageways hindered his view to some extent: “It’s too dark, I can’t see clearly.”

Qiao Siqi didn’t expect that he waited for a long time only for such a development and complained, depressed: “What kind of sh*tty eyesight do you have!”

Zhou Yilu was already frantic and now there was also a person beside him who was fanning the flames, he immediately backed off and gave way: “You do it.” JY1UuI

Qiao Siqi wasn’t polite at all as he raised his chin haughtily: “I’ll do it then!”

But for the two companions who were already used to the light, it was like plunging into an ink pool with a putong and everything was black as far as the eye could see with no difference between having opened or closed eyes, and their sense of hearing and smell also seemed to disappear along with it completely. For a moment, they couldn’t tell what night it was and lost sense of where they currently were. kf8gXV

It was completely different from the usual ones he’d seen as the Luban Building halls were twisted and winding. One would just be walking and walking and wouldn’t know where they’d taken a turn to, the path couldn’t be clearly seen through at a glance. Especially at this time, with only the crisp and cold moonlight present, the abnormal geometric corridor looked even more abnormal.

The only thing that offered comfort to the two of them was that at least from where they were looking, there were no zombies in sight.

“Are we still aiming for the roof?” The situation outside wasn’t clear, but they definitely couldn’t stay in this room so Qiao Siqi brought up their previous destination.

“Let’s take it a step at a time ba,” Zhou Yilu didn’t dare to lock onto a dead end, after all who knows what kind of incidents may crop up on their way from the seventh to the tenth floor, however, “It’s best to make it there.” 20Pq6k

“Exactly what kind of place is it that you would have so much confidence in it?” Qiao wondered for a long time and only now did he have time to ask.

“The dean’s office.”

“Safety is guaranteed?”

“Our dean was invited by a national project as acting consultant this semester. He hasn’t been at the department for months and his office is locked all year round, there definitely won’t be anyone who will enter it. And it is on the top floor so if we want to pass on any information, we can climb straight onto the roof.” FUTrLn

“It’s safe since the door is locked, but if others can’t get in, we can’t either ah?”

“The door has a combination lock that was just changed this year. Once when I went next door to find the director of my major, I furtively saw him open the door.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“Then you secretly wrote down the password after?”

“I didn’t especially go out of my way to remember it, I’m just naturally sensitive to numbers. . .” QRxLwy

“Will you die if you don’t brag?”

Let’s go!”

“. . .”

A dark night, a chilly and breezy corridor. XlDxWS

It was unknown if it was because the students of the department of architecture liked south to north ventilation from the start, or if something happened as a result of the zombie outbreak, but most of the windows in the hallway on the seventh floor were open. They weren’t even just slightly ajar but completely wide open, enough for anyone to freely enter and exit this extensive gap which now had frigid air pouring in with a huhu.

However if anything had once occurred, the passageways were overly spick and span. The walls were still snow white, the ground was still shiny and clean, only a few trash cans lying about in a scattered fashion indicated that things in the past may not have been as peaceful as it was now.

“The stairs are on which side?” Qiao Siqi leaned closer to Zhou Yilu and inquired in a low voice.

It was difficult for Zhou Yilu to explain clearly to students from other departments, so he simply whispered: “Just follow me ba.” 7SA0y9

Qiao Siqi suddenly remembered a classic quote from the other’s dialogue log “who said I don’t get lost too” and was suddenly at a loss: “It can’t be that you don’t know?”

Being so underestimated made Zhou Yilu a little upset: “I dare not to make promises about other floors, but this floor is my home field!”

Half a minute later.

Zhou Yilu pulled open what was a so-called door to the stairwell, yet what appeared before the two’s eyes was a bathroom. BGzcdu

“Your primary playing field?”

One becomes more timid closer to one’s hometown, it’s inevitable to recognize the wrong door.”

“Scram!”

After staggering around, the two actually stumbled upon the stairs. Fortunately, the stairs were empty as could be, almost like a green passage indicating full speed ahead. s9Me4d

However, Qiao Siqi’s excitement didn’t last long. Just as they reached the eighth floor, the stairs were cut off.

En, severed.

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

There was no way to continue upwards, only the path to enter the eighth floor corridor.

Qiao Siqi was completely depressed with nowhere to vent, so he could only pound on Zhou Yilu violently. tcM25n

Zhou Yilu was more wronged than Dou E, he didn’t design this sh*tty building!

The hallway on the eighth floor was okay. Although it was a bit messier than the eighth floor, it also looked completely deserted with neither people nor zombies. There were sporadic red spots splattered on the walls and the two of them subconsciously turned away so that they wouldn’t feel as discomfited in their hearts.

The success rate of Zhou Yilu’s ability to recognize his surroundings was maintained at 50%, such that every time he opened a door, Qiao Siqi had to brace himself mentally.

Like now. NOjca8

Zhou Yilu: “Are you ready?”

Qiao Siqi: “Open it ba.”

Kada.

Zhou Yilu pressed down on the doorknob that looked like the fire safety door of a stairwell and slowly creaked the door open. 0j57YH

What caught the two’s eyes was a very vast open space that was three to four times the size of an ordinary classroom, and there were also no tables, chairs, or benches. Instead, a lot of the semi-open spaces were artistically separated by thin bamboo curtains. In each space, there was a work desk, on which, some professional materials were stacked neatly or strewn randomly about.

This was not a stairwell, this was the handicrafts work space of the students of the architectural major.

Undoubtedly, Zhou Yilu once again recognized the wrong door and found the wrong way. So far under the repeated wear and tear, Qiao Siqi has fully accepted such a small mistake, but that was based on the premise that there weren’t dozens of pairs of eyes staring at him on said erroneous path.

This was a space that wasn’t empty at all. 9KMa2F

There were two or three students gathered next to each workbench in the semi-open space and there were more than twenty or thirty in total across these dozen or so work surfaces.

Now, following the sound of the opening door, they all swept their gaze over together, with eager eyes and ferocious faces.

It was known which former classmate made a strange cry, but the twenty to thirty zombies bounced up like they had been electrocuted and swarmed over!

Zhou Yilu yanked on Qiao Siqi’s collar: “Run ah—” GVoqYA

Even without him barking that order, Qiao Siqi had already sprinted ahead and Zhou Yilu’s tug on his collar actually affected his speed instead. However a person of great moral stature doesn’t remember the offenses committed by those of lower stature, he wouldn’t pick at faults, he just wanted to know: “Wasn’t it the weekend when the incident happened, why do the students of your department have to be so diligent?!”

“The seniors need to finish their graduation projects ah!!!”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

By mistake, the two of them bumbled their way into a narrow compartment without finding the stairs leading to the ninth floor. Zhou Yilu slammed the door shut with a peng then locked it while Zhou Yilu immediately used his cell phone to illuminate the space, the two cooperated seamlessly.

When the light came on, the large army of zombified seniors had already barreled past the door. Zhou Yilu exhaled deeply in relief when he heard the pounding footsteps gradually drift farther away and only swiveled around after reconfirming that there were no issues with the lock on the door. ebrc3C

That was when he noticed the dumbfounded Qiao Siqi.

Following that, he also saw the source of his comrade’s strangeness.

* * * * *

Blood. RFKNJf

Blood all over the walls.

This was only a break room which could accommodate up to eight or nine people. It had three walls and one door, but no windows. Generally, there were only two drinking fountains, one table, and several jugs of spare purified water.

And yet at this moment, the water dispenser was overturned and several of the purified water vessels were lying on the ground in a mess, most of them completely empty while one or two had some water remaining, however because the water level was lower than the height of the of mouth of the two barrels, they lingered motionlessly within, no longer flowing.

Perhaps the floor was once wet, but it was completely dry now, leaving only a diluted red color, staining the dark marble floor inconspicuously. a4AejG

In contrast, the scarlet on the white walls were much more visually shocking.

The blood was dense and light, bright and dark, in dotted splatters and also irregular splotches, in fact, even a few bloody handprints could be vaguely discerned.

All in all, every detail was illustrating what kind of tragedy occurred here.

The duo didn’t dare to ponder it too deeply because no matter whether the students hiding here were ambushed by zombies or if there were no zombies at all and only people from beginning to end, was a conclusion neither of them could bear. 7dbxjI

Some things still exist whether you want to face them or not.

But if they didn’t have to, they would rather avoid it, for at least they’d feel better in their hearts.

* * * * *

Turning off his phone, the break room completely plunged into darkness. dNYJr

Without windows, with the absence of moonlight, it was just like a bottomless abyss where no sun would shine.

“Let’s keep the phone on ba.” Zhou Yilu felt stifled until it was oppressive.

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

It wasn’t that Qiao Siqi didn’t want the light, but: “There isn’t much battery left, and now that there’s a power outage, we can’t not save it ah.”

“Didn’t you take Lin Dilei’s cell phone?” ZidpRl

“It’s also an Apple.”

“Couldn’t you have borrowed a domestic model?!”

“Impossible, this involves the dignity of a fruit fan.”

“. . .” NduxjJ

Qiao Siqi sat on the ground to rest, but Zhou Yilu stuck to the door and listened for a full ten minutes. After he confirmed that there were really no more noises outside did he call out to John: “Are you done resting, if you’re done, let’s go.”

Qiao Siqi was taken aback and asked reflexively: “To where?”

Zhou Yilu suspected that he had lost his memory: “The dean’s office ah.”

“Wait a minute, I don’t really understand this logical connection,” Qiao Siqi asked shamelessly, “Isn’t the purpose of going to the dean’s office to find a safe place to hide? Now that this place can meet the needs of concealment, why continue to take risks and continue to the top floor?” PanYdg

“Because you can’t survey the outside from here.”

“What do you want to see?”

“Comrades.”

“. . .” derjcK

“Us hiding in here is safe, but we wouldn’t have the means to find out the progress on the radio, let alone receive information from our teammates. It’ll be a different situation in the dean’s office. The office window is facing the road. If they retrieved the radio, they would have to pass by the base of our building. At that time, we would be able to catch sight of them as soon as we lowered our heads. Taking a step back, if they failed and wanted to send us a signal for us to provide assistance, if we were at a location with windows, it’ll be easier for us to receive that alert.”

“Congratulations, you have successfully convinced me.”

“Whenever you don’t need me to persuade you is the day you’ve grown up.”

“You should really get to know my dad, you two would definitely hit it off.” RCW0d2

“. . .”

From the eighth floor to the ninth floor, Zhou-lang, and Xiao-Qiao climbed for forty minutes. During this period, they got lost countless times and encountered zombies several times. The most common situation was that Zhou Yilu declared that this was the way, then as soon as they opened it up, it was another classroom. It was until the extent Qiao Siqi felt that he faced the gallows and lost all hope, randomly yanking a door agape, certain that it was yet another classroom, but as it turned out, beyond it was actually the stairwell.

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

The joy of finally reaching the ninth floor wasn’t good enough to dispel Qiao Siqi’s depression: “Do you actually come here for class every day ah!”

Zhou Yilu wanted to cry but had no tears: “I always took the friggin’ elevator ah!” q nyLH

Qiao Siqi: “The question is, can it pass the fire inspection with the stairs built in such a way!”

Zhou Yilu couldn’t bear to hear other people talk sh*t about his department, besides: “Didn’t you proclaim before that you would never roast our building anymore!”

“I just can’t stand it challenging my bottom line over and over again ah!!!”

It was unknown if the great master Luban heard Qiao Siqi’s cry, but it gave them a cardboard box for packing modeling materials as soon as they reached the ninth floor. The box was 1.3 meters cubed which was more than enough for the two of them to be stuffed inside. abq0Fo

Qiao Siqi and Zhou Yilu also lived up to expectations and cut four holes in the top of the box, two by two, left and right, and then they hollowed out the bottom of the box and hopped in.

The two were covered by the box and while there was nothing wrong with other places, it was just that their legs had to be bent the entire time because if they straightened, they would be exposed. At the same time, the speed of their progress also couldn’t be too fast as to prevent them from being discovered by zombies.

If it weren’t for the fact that the two of them had exhausted their physical strength after repeated skirmishes or scouting out the way and the fact that they didn’t really want to have to fight or flee again in the foreseeable future, then they wouldn’t have taken such a poor course of action.

At first, everything went well. When they bumped into a zombie in the corridor, they would stop moving and only until the zombie passed them by would they continue their search. However, after encountering the fifth zombie, a problem occurred. fO537c

The two of them had still adopted the method of strategic pausing, but the zombie also stopped beside the box and didn’t move.

Then it seemed to have caught the scent of some pleasant aroma and chomped on the cardboard box without warning!

Qiao Siqi and Zhou Yilu were so frightened that their hearts almost stopped.

If you were to talk about engaging in combat face to face, perhaps the two of them may not be so nervous. But suddenly playing hide and seek, this kind of tension from the fear of being discovered at any time was huge. 2zkocJ

Fortunately, the zombie only gnawed on it twice before it felt that the texture wasn’t right and ultimately gave up as it hobbled away.

But the two companions still had to sum up their combat experience ah

Zhou Yilu: “They can still smell us, even through the box.”

Qiao Siqi: “Ze, we didn’t spray enough Hualu shui when we came out. What should we do now?” dxVmSW

Zhou Yilu: “It’s fine, I have backup.”

Xixisusu.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Cici.

Qiao Siqi: “Ah, ah. . .” UFz8 W

Zhou Yilu: “F*ck, you better not sneeze!”

Qiao Siqi: “It’s fine, I held it back. What did you spray just now?”

Zhou Yilu: “Cologne.”

Qiao Siqi: “Why did you bring a bottle of cologne with you on a mission to find the radio, I need an explanation.” hULIB7

Zhou Yilu: “A man should not be slovenly at any time. To respect oneself is to respect others.”

Qiao Siqi: “. . .”

From the time he rushed over to help this guy lure the enemy away together, Qiao Siqi thought that he would no longer be able to continue being just a happy and carefree youth.

From the ninth floor to the tenth floor, and then groping their way from the tenth floor to the dean’s office, the two used more than an hour. By the time Zhou Yilu began to key in the password, Qiao Siqi’s legs were already so heavy that he couldn’t even stand up straight. gKdIzv

“If you dare to tell me that the password is wrong, I will fight you to death.” Qiao Siqi glared at Zhou Yilu’s fingertips, his eyes about to burst into flames.

Fortunately, there was a pleasant “ding”.

The thick, solid wooden door swung ajar in response as Zhou Yilu and Qiao Siqi filed in one at a time.

It was still the same old routine, Zhou Yilu shut the door and locked it while Qiao Siqi turned on the lights. 9dWcbK

As expected of the dean’s office, it was spacious and tidy, with clear and clean windows, a large desk, a sofa, a bookcase, a computer, and the corners were embellished with green plants. It was concise without losing essence, serious without losing amiability.

If you had to pick a bone out of it, then the only fly in the ointment of this office was—

A fat and bald middle-aged man that was currently sitting behind the desk.

“Didn’t you say that your dean wasn’t here!” Qiao Siqi practically squeezed those words out between gnashed teeth. 9cmbvQ

Zhou Yilu was also stupefied: “This isn’t our dean ah, this is the head of our department.”

“Why is the department head in the dean’s office? Experiencing life?”

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

Zhou Yilu looked at his comrade-in-arms then at the middle-aged man, finally his eyes were locked on the latter’s face and he risked it all to demand for proof directly: “Professor Wang, did you really want to be dean that much. . .”

As soon as his words fell, the middle-aged man suddenly leapt to its feet, swarmed across the desk, and lunged towards him! HbTtJp

Qiao Siqi was about to have a breakdown: “Couldn’t you have asked more subtly?!”

Zhou Yilu was unjustly put to death: “The problem doesn’t lie with what question I posed okay—”

Professor Wang, who had great ambitions in his official career, at this moment had lost all human emotions in his eyes long ago, leaving behind only the most primitive hunger for prey.

Author’s Chapter Summary: Bup5t8

The path is hard to seek after hundreds of turns and thousands of loops, bosom friends cleverly utilize the cardboard box ruse!

The translator has something to say: to those of you who are feeling overwhelmed by that scene in the breakroom, my speculation is the former mainly because if it was the latter, there would still be bodies present in that room as zombies don’t add a bite onto those who are already deceased, hope this makes you all feel a bit better about it

And to match the length of the other series I’m translating, I humbly offer a follow up chapter coming up shortly and I hope to make more regular releases

  1. “Zhou Yilu slammed the door shut with a peng then locked it while Zhou Yilu immediately used his cell phone to illuminate the space, the two cooperated seamlessly”.

Good to see Zhou Yilu cooperating so well with himself~~ Jokes aside, based on the text after this, I’m guessing Qiao Siqi is the one holding the light (cellphone)?

    Thak you for the chapters!!

  2. I saw the gore warning and got so worried one of them is about to be brutally written off 😭 I hope the author will only add to the crew instead of deleting current members
