The very provocative rhythm stirred up the few zombies that were just below the trees first then more zombies began pouring out from the west door of the canteen, one, two, five, ten. . . Seeing that the advance force was about to reach the first tree, Qiao Siqi wrapped his legs tightly around a branch and motioned for a rest as if he were a conductor!

The sound from the first and second trees ceased abruptly!

While the song drifting from the fifth tree didn’t lose momentum and was even slightly goading. It exuded an unrestrained and unruly energy that stated even if we had to descend into hell, we would still rock you to death. ENnR8y

The zombies that were originally stampeding towards the first tree quickly realized that their judgment on the source of the sound seemed to be erroneous. Thus, after a brief period of confusion, they doubled their efforts and headed towards the fifth tree in the direction of the music. The companions on the first and second tree stared intently at the west entrance and watched as the flood of zombies first decreased, then increased, and then gradually became a trickle. Finally, when they felt that it was pretty much stabilized, they gingerly but decisively descended the tree!

Luo Geng who landed first, hoisted the suitcase up onto his shoulder and charged into the canteen, the weighty suitcase looked very light under his powerful actions. Zhou Yilu and Qiao Siqi followed closely behind, admiring Luo-tongxue’s strength while running. Song Fei was the first to reach the ground from the second tree and then lent a hand to receive Lin Dilei and Li Jingyu. When all three of them had their feet planted on the ground, some of the zombies who were attracted by Qi Yan and the others had already spotted them and immediately whipped around to rush over!

Song Fei, the three of them, didn’t dare to delay for even a moment as they bolted for the west door! Song Fei led the charge, as soon as he entered through the west door, he saw Qiao Siqi, the three of them had already passed the dining window and sped to the kitchen. There were still zombies that hadn’t left the kitchen and were now directly entangled with the three of them. On the main hall side, the zombies who were originally still wandering around blindly on the east side because they didn’t hear the music were lured over by Luo Geng and the others who had zoomed in first and bowled over to the west side. The distance between the east and west sides prevented them from catching up with Luo Geng, but they just so happened to collide with him!

There were tigers blocking in front and deadly wolves behind, Song Fei had absolutely no opportunities to dash into the kitchen. He improvised and made a split-second decision, shouting in the direction of the kitchen: “Don’t worry about me and quickly close the door!” While he hollered at them, he didn’t stay idle and hastily turned left, grabbing Lin Dilei who had just ran over on the way and sprinted up the stairs!

The canteen had a total of three floors with stairs located on the east and west sides and the set of stairs Song Fei took was the one on the west side. His original intentions were to reach the second floor and scour for a place to hide temporarily, but who knew that there would be even more zombies in the main hall on the second floor! Song Fei didn’t dare to waste time on thinking too much and steeled his mind as he continued upwards. When he reached the third floor, he realized that he actually could still advance even higher. In the past, he mostly just remained on the first and second floors and had never noticed this place. However, at the moment, he didn’t have time to consider it any further and zipped over in one breath. It was a fire door!

Song Fei shoved the door open ecstatically and sure enough, he arrived on the roof!

Lin Dilei, who had pretty much ran up with him simultaneously, whirled around immediately and slammed the fire door shut, roaring loudly: “Rope!”

Song Fei reacted instantly and while combining forces to bar the door with Lin Dilei, he quickly pulled out a length of rope from his bag. Lin Dilei didn’t wait for him to pass it over and just snatched it from him, tying it to the handle of the two doors just like they had used the bike locks to chain up the supermarket doors. After wrapping it around a few times, she secured it in a dead knot. axkTYd

Almost as soon as the knot was completed, the fire door was rammed violently! Although there was a rope, Song Fei and Lin Dilei still continued to lean against the door with as much force as they could muster, not daring to relax for even a moment.

Their shoulders were being pressed against until it was painful. Song Fei looked towards Lin Dilei encouragingly: “Little Landmine, hold on!”

Lin Dilei nodded vigorously: “I can hold on! But I think we lost Little Whale. . .”

Song Fei: “. . .” OHtxYE

Outside the canteen, on the tree shaded avenue, the fifth tree.

“Hurry up and haul upwards ah, they’re about to bite me ahhhhh—”

Qi Yan had a splitting headache from the screeching and snapped viciously: “If you don’t shut up now, I’ll drop you!”

Li Jingyu clutched the rope tightly and curled his legs up as much as he could. He really did as ordered and shut his mouth tightly, even as he looked towards Wang Qingyuan with tears in his eyes. kw278Y

The latter was lying prostrate on an even higher branch and lightly nodded his head: “Believe me, he isn’t lying to you.”

Li Jingyu was completely muted.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

He didn’t know what happened as well. The three of them had clearly sprinted towards the canteen together, but as they ran and ran, the two of them had disappeared. He remembered that their destination was the kitchen, but then he saw the kitchen doors slam shut with a peng from afar. The zombies besieged from all directions as if he were the only morsel of food left in the entire world. In a panic, he had actually retreated out of the canteen and headed back to the avenue.

Little Whale ran and the zombies pursued. They went round and round and somehow ended up all the way back to the bottom of the tree, but this time the zombie army was left in the dust by Little Whale. Qi Yan reacted quickly and let down the rope. Only until the other was lifted up into midair did the zombie army surround them anew.

Finally, Li Jingyu arrived at the fork of the branch Qi Yan was on. For the sake of safety, Wang Qingyuan climbed even higher and Qi Yan ascended to the spot Wang Qingyuan occupied originally. The three of them were arranged from bottom to top like an arithmetic progression.

“Weren’t you with Song Fei and the others?” Qi Yan was finally free to express his doubts.

Li Jingyu was also stupefied: “As we ran and ran, the two of them were gone all of a sudden and disappeared into thin air!” w6QhHk

Qi Yan: “. . .”

Wang Qingyuan: “. . .”

Qi Yan: “You can just say that you weren’t paying attention.”

Wang Qingyuan: “You’re being too courteous, this is called scatterbrained.” KZb8NP

Li Jingyu wanted to cry: “I’m only a novice village newbie, can’t the two of you be a little more forgiving. . .”

Although there was a slight deviation in the allocation of personnel, from Qi Yan and Wang Qiyuan’s perspective, the tactics were basically still carried out according to plan. And in their arrangements, the next step was to stabilize the zombies below the tree and buy time for the comrades who had charged into the canteen. They needed to prevent them from losing interest and returning to the canteen in order to decrease the resistance those who were assailing the kitchen would face.

Just after the three of them balanced the arithmetic progression properly, some zombies were already sporadically wandering away. Wang Qingyuan promptly called out: “Hei, the ones over there don’t leave ah, hurry up and come back. Walk by, pass by, but don’t miss out. If you don’t see it, you’ll be suffering a loss, if you don’t hear it, you’ll be duped. . .”

On this side, Qi Yan cleared his throat and began: “You asked me how deeply I love you~~ How much I love you~~ My feelings are genuine~~ My love is also true. . .yfXAUO

The canteen, first floor kitchen.

Qiao Siqi closed the door. As soon as he locked it, a zombie pounced on him. Fortunately, it was only the mask that was gnawed on as Qiao Siqi stabbed its neck in one strike! The zombie paused briefly before it instantly turned around to bite Qiao Siqi’s hand! Qiao Siqi kicked it away and fled to a corner before he realized that his hand was empty. He cried and howled at his two comrades who were in a fierce engagement on the other side: “What should I do, I have no weapon ahhhh!”

Luo Geng and Zhou Yilu, who were fighting a hard battle back-to-back, almost had a mental breakdown from this comment: “Grab a kitchen knife ah!!!”

One sentence woke up the one trapped in a dream! 31FX6u

Even if the kitchen was lacking, kitchen knives would not be! In fact, a chopping board was right next to Qiao Siqi’s hand and the kitchen knife that was transfixed on it by the tip was standing upright majestically!

Qiao Siqi yanked it out with too much force, making it draw an arc in the air. The blade just so happened to slash the lunging zombie in the face as blood splashed onto the protective goggles!

Qiao Siqi made a tough decision and raised his hand. Striking from top to bottom, he embedded half of the knife through the crown of the zombie’s head!

Qiao Siqi tried to maneuver it in various ways, but unfortunately the knife couldn’t be pulled out! Another zombie swooped over from the side. Qiao Siqi was completely unarmed so he leapt onto the countertop hastily. He hopped across the large commercial stoves that were lined up next to each other one after another and fished the metal spatulas used for stir-frying dishes out of the wok. He cast all caution into the winds and unceremoniously whacked the zombie that was diving over in the head! D1 FzR

One inch longer, one inch stronger, the zombie actually couldn’t get closer for the moment! Soon after, Zhou Yilu who had hurried over, speared the zombie through the back of its head and on the other side, Luo Geng finally tackled the last zombie to the ground, ending the skirmish.

Qiao Siqi collapsed and slumped beside the commercial stove, the rims of his eyes slightly reddened.

Zhou Yilu originally wanted to scold him with a few words, but after he saw him like that, he couldn’t bear to and just sighed: “Take it slowly, you won’t be afraid anymore in the future.”

“It wasn’t that I was scared,” Qiao Siqi pointed at the zombie on the floor, the tone of his voice changing slightly, “I recognize that serving aunty, she always smiled at me when I came to order ne.” Kha12V

Zhou Yilu, and Luo Geng, who had just arrived, looked down together and only saw that the zombie on the ground was a middle-aged woman in her forties. Although you couldn’t see her features clearly, based on her clothing, they could tell it was a serving aunty.

The two of them also suddenly felt a bit bitter in their hearts.

Zhou Yilu: “Don’t think about it.”

Luo Geng: “In fact, at the moment she contracted the virus, she had already died.” KcJ43T

Qiao Siqi: “There’s no way I can not think about it. Every time she finishes smiling at me when I order, her wrist would shake in turn and then the largest piece of meat would definitely fall back in the dish, always!”

Zhou Yilu, Luo Geng: “So are you crying tears of joy right now!!!”

The shady avenue, fifth tree.

Wang Qingyuan: “Tourism anthropology has little to do with management and mainly belongs to the category of anthropology. However it focuses on tourism-related human cultural activities as its research objective so it can still be related to tourism management. Its application has greater significance than its theoretical component. . .” CrTzwq

Ten minutes later.

Wang Qingyuan: “Next up, let’s have Qi-laoshi speak.”

Qi Yan: “Life sciences includes botany, biochemistry, cytology, molecular biology, etc, these branches of study. And in the core curricula in the university, all of these topics must be somewhat covered. However, before the explanation of its specifics, we must first clarify the difference between biology and biotechnology. . .”

After another ten minutes. 3STXnm

Qi Yan: “Lilaoshi, it’s your turn.”

Li Jingyu: “Why did we switch from singing to lectures. . .”

Wang Qingyuan: “It saves effort, it’s long-lasting, and the effect is pretty good.”

Li Jingyu: “I think that they’re already sleepy from listening. . .” aBt23Y

Qi Yan: “It’s better if they fall asleep, if they are too energetic, the ones who will suffer is us.”

Li Jingyu: “But it’s already so boring, why are they still loitering around us over here instead of going elsewhere?”

Wang Qingyuan: “I predict that it’s the residual muscle memory of their cerebral cortex being awakened. They can’t be dismissed before the bell.”

Li Jingyu: “Why does my nose suddenly feel sour. . .” 1TVxMr

Qi Yan: “Hurry up!”

Li Jingyu: “Sacrificing Crocodiles Article, Han Yu, a certain year, month, and day, the governor of Chaozhou, Han Yu, ordered a subordinate official to Qinji, to toss a sheep and a pig into the pool of water known as the evil stream as the crocodile’s meal and at the same time warned, under the previous emperor’s rule, he arranged the mountains and rivers. . .”

Five minutes later.

Li Jingyu: “Preface of Tengwang Pavillion, Wang Bo. The old country of Yu Zhang, the new residence at the Hong Capital. The stars are divided as wings. . .” HKpLdq

Wang Qingyuan: “Shh.”

Li Jingyu: “What are you shushing about, I’m reciting with gusto, there’s still “The Orchid Pavilion Collection”, “Apprenticeship List. . .”

“There are people running out,” Qi Yan lowered his voice and listened carefully, “A lot of them.”

Li Jingyu stopped talking and joined his two companions in taking a look. ejUW J

At the same time, Song Fei and Lin Dilei who were on the canteen roof also picked up on the noise. Whether the zombies on the other side of the fire door left or not they had no idea, but they had settled down and hadn’t rammed the door in the last few minutes. The two of them boldly took two steps back and whether it was the door or the knot, both didn’t budge.

The sound by their ears grew louder and louder, like a crowd of people stampeding.

Song Fei and Lin Dilei exchanged a glance. Unable to hold back their curiosity, they held their breaths and tiptoed away from the fire door and shuffled towards the southern edge of the roof bit by bit. Raising their heads, they saw a huge group of people storming out of the dormitory area. Rounding down, there were dozens of people and the combined cacophony of their running footsteps sounded particularly alarming on such a night.

The crowd barreled towards the supermarket like cannonballs. The muffled sound of bodies hitting glass and the clattering sound of several locks could be vaguely heard. I7r0sE

This time, no one vainly called for someone to open the door. It was unknown if they determined that shouting was useless, or if they believed that the combined strength of a crowd was more powerful, so they just repeatedly slammed into it desperately.

From Song Fei and Lin Dilei’s point of view, they could see a throng of people crowding around the glass door and they could also see the flock of zombies chasing them from behind. However they couldn’t see the overall movements of the students sticking close to the door, nor could they read their expressions. They could only imagine their anxiety and panic.

Suddenly, a dong sound.

Song Fei froze. i4kbrB

Dong! Another sound.

Song Fei realized that there was someone using something to smash the glass!

Huala

Nearly as soon as Song Fei and Lin Dilei realized what had happened, the sound of shattering glass cut through the night. 8rJkAW

Like a tsunami, they flooded into the supermarket, and for a while the intermittent sounds of yelling and cursing resounded incessantly.

Very soon, the flock of zombies also arrived and without the glass barring them, they swaggered in without meeting any obstacles.

Gradually, the swearing faded and were replaced by screams, wailing, and the sounds of various heavy objects striking something and crashing down.

Later, the tragic screams and piteous wailing also subsided and the night returned to silence while the supermarket remained brightly illuminated. VfnCdk

Their faces were briefly touched by something cold. Song Fei and Lin Dilei raised their heads simultaneously as if they had agreed upon doing so.

In the tree on the shady avenue, the group lined up as an arithmetic series also felt the abnormality and lifted their gaze one after another.

The snow, began to drift again.

In the cloudy skies, not even half a star could be seen. It was as if they had all morphed into snowflakes and were falling in a fluttering manner. e70PVd

Good and evil will both be reciprocated eventually, when have the Heavens ever spared anyone!

The translator has something to say:

Ignoring the fact that those scum got what they deserved, I guess the other students from the dormitory lost their minds in desperation to make such a brainless move FCX1V6

P.S. On another note, do you guys think that the translation notes are too much, like would you guys rather just have the meaning and have me cut out the rest of the miscellaneous information? Also, sorry for the erratic updates, COVID hit hard and a lot of my coworkers are out

  1. Thank you for the chapter! I was wondering about the rest of the kids from the dorm. It’s sad but I’m sure they were extremely desperate and just tired of being stuck. I’m even more curious now about how the girl’s dorm is faring.

I don’t think that translation notes are too much. If it makes it easier for you to just do the meaning, then you should do that.

  2. Thank you for the chapter! I really like your notes, as some of the phrases are not always clear to understand. What’s even better is that the notes only appear when you click on the link and don’t interfere with reading the chapter itself.

  3. I love the little translation notes you make, they are super helpful! Plus, thanks to you and the great author-daren, my Chinese songs playlist is steadily being filled up lol
