Song Fei’s first reaction was to run towards the exit on the left, but the zombie just had to pounce in that direction, so Song Fei could only dodge towards the right. After this close call, he found himself facing the door to the third stall. Without the slightest hesitation, he slid inside the cubicle and then whipped back around at lightning speed to slam the door shut!

The zombie, however, wasn’t that much slower, running straight over soon after missing its target. When Song Fei closed the door, half its body was directly sandwiched inside the crack!

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

The zombie desperately reached in, trying to squeeze its entire body inside! Song Fei desperately pushed against the door. Not only did he have to try to prevent it from rushing in, but he also had to take care to avoid getting bitten. Sweat was already dripping down his forehead.

Suddenly, the zombie let out a howl, as though bursting with impatience, its strength increasing without any warning! With a mighty shove, it managed to fling the door wide open! dGOvoy

Song Fei was knocked aside unceremoniously, his back colliding into the partitioning!

The zombie had already forced its way in. Inside this narrow compartment, there was nowhere for Song Fei to hide!

Seeing that he was about to receive a kabedon, Song Fei quick-wittedly squatted down in an instant, wrapped his arms around the zombie’s legs, and pulled them out from under it!

In a flash, it lost its balance, cracking its head against the edge of the toilet with a guangdang!

Song Fei immediately let go and stood up, raising a leg to straddle the zombie’s back. He positioned both hands behind its head, then dunked it straight into the toilet!

By the time Qi Yan and the others rushed over, this was the scene they came across. If they hadn’t already known that this was one person and one zombie, they absolutely would’ve thought that this was some kind of street brawl. And however miserable Song Fei’s shout had sounded before rivaled the amount of sympathy they now had for the one currently sprawled over the toilet.

Zhou Yilu relieved it from its suffering with one quick strike of his knife.

After confirming the zombie underneath him was no longer struggling, Song Fei let out a sigh of relief, then stood up. But, in the next second, he seemed to have thought of something, and quickly ran past his comrades to rush into the second stall. 37wrKt

The ventilation window was still wide-open, but fortunately, no other zombies had come in.

Song Fei hurriedly closed the window, only to find the lock was already broken.

The ventilation windows in the bathroom were fairly common aluminum-alloy sliding-type windows. Perhaps because they’d only been made with employee-use in mind, plus they were located inside a bathroom, they’d only been fitted with more traditional Fitch sash fasteners, with a curved metal piece as the hook catch, and a small, crescent-shaped lever that could be turned inwards after closing the window.

This kind of lock was easy to install, and there were only four screws to screw in, but it also had poor anti-theft performance. Essentially, as long as the window was yanked hard enough, the curved metal piece would break off with the lever, and the entire lock would basically become useless. Then, the window could naturally be opened at any time. However, since there were security guards who patrolled the school at night, and the supermarket itself also had its own surveillance cameras and night watchmen, upper management had presumably paid this small window no mind, plenty satisfied as long as it remained relatively functional. 61mkSc

Of course, Song Fei and the others had noticed this window when they’d been inspecting the place, and had already examined this lock. But, at the time, all of them had assumed that while zombies might break down doors or shatter windows, it wasn’t very likely for them to consciously open windows left and right like people might. As long as they paid attention to the sounds of breaking glass, then everything would be perfectly fine.

And yet, reality had given them a cruel slap on the face.

Inside the cramped restroom, everyone was dead silent. Zombies could open windows. This incident had a huge impact on the “New Three Views in a World of Zombies” that they’d gradually established after the zombie outbreak.

“So, it was probably already inside back when I was here using the bathroom?” Picturing that thin wall being the only thing standing between her and a zombie at some point in time made Lin Dilei’s skin crawl. 2b0q3

“Probably not,” Song Fei tried his best to reason through it, practically something unprecedented for him, “If it’d already been inside when you came in, even if it wasn’t sensitive to sounds, it shouldn’t have remained unresponsive to the scent of a living human being.”

Over the past few days, of all the zombies that hadn’t been attracted by the sounds of music, at first, there were the faceless ones, and later on, the ones that Luo Geng had run into inside Fen Duo Duo. But, as for zombies that weren’t attracted by the scent of living human beings, they still had yet to meet a single one.

Lin Dilei followed Song Fei’s line of reasoning and made a guess: “You came in for a few minutes before you were attacked and called for help, which means that it didn’t just climb in after I left, but after you came in as well… but, that still doesn’t make any sense ah,” Lin Dilei had found where the problem lay, “Did you not hear the sounds of it opening the window and climbing in?”

Song Fei shook his head: “It didn’t come in after me. I swear, from the time I came in to when I first discovered it, at no point were there any sounds of a window being opened. So, in all likelihood, it’d already been there by the time I came in. The reason why it didn’t attack me was probably because I still smelled of that spray, masking my own scent.” fZ1E9n

“Was it inside this cubicle at the time, then?” Qi Yan, who’d been silent this entire time, suddenly asked.

Song Fei didn’t understand what he was getting at, and nodded truthfully.

Qi Yan then asked: “The door was closed?”

Qi Yan’s original intention hadn’t actually been to interrogate him. He’d only hoped to acquire as many details as possible, and clear up any points of confusion, so he could better theorize on the inner workings of zombies. If you knew thyself and knew thine enemy, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. This was a universal truth.

“I heard the sound of music coming from a phone and thought it was you, so I kicked the door open.”

Song-tongxue‘s response made all the onlookers feel as though they’d heard a bunch of gobbledygook, while Qi Yan’s gaze completely darkened.

Song Fei also felt like a complete idiot when he said this. But, the truth of the matter was when he’d heard that song at the time, Qi Yan really had been his first assumption. He didn’t think there’d ever be another person in this whole world who’d like listening to that kind of song, plus it’d started playing right after he’d finished humming that exact same tune. More importantly, they were the only ones inside this entire supermarket. He never would’ve imagined that it was a zombie next to him that was playing that song… om7psZ

“Love chili peppers~ Light chili peppers~ Green chili peppers…”

The sudden sound of music interrupted Song Fei’s self-reproach.

The song that’d inexplicably stopped while he’d been distracted by the zombie had now inexplicably been resurrected.

He squatted down, straining to reach the offender that’d fallen behind the toilet, wanting to show it to everyone in order to prove that he’d really only been momentarily careless and wasn’t a complete moron. But, the moment he saw the phone, he froze in place. uoNxTA

“Isn’t this… yours ma…” Song Fei stood up in a daze. He gave Qi Yan a blank look, his mind in utter chaos.

“I was on the roof for too long, and it wasn’t safe to hold onto it anymore, so I threw it down on the ground.” Qi Yan took the phone, and turned off his alarm. This was the third-party alarm software he’d been using. Right now, it was set to go off every two minutes as long as the alarm wasn’t turned off.

Please support our translators at chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

“Then, why didn’t you tell me you tossed your phone away?”

Song Fei asked very gently, his voice even trembling a little. If Qi Yan had been keen enough, he would’ve realized that Song Fei was acting very strangely. vDOtze

“What’s there to say, it’s not like you can go and get me another one, right?”

Unfortunately, Qi Yan hadn’t been.

At the moment, his entire head was filled with thoughts on how to make Song Fei wake up to the fact that the world was different now. If he continued his brainless behavior from before, it’d only be a matter of time before he’d end up dead.

“Even if it’s the same song, did I come to the bathroom with you? A whole living being entering the bathroom, opening the door, and sitting down next door to you. Would you not have heard a single thing? Can’t you think things through before you act? You’re not alone anymore. Your each and every action is linked to everyone else’s lives!” 8oBdEy

Qi Yan tried his best to curb his temper, but what came out was inevitably still tinged with fury. Of course he was worried about Song Fei, but he also hated Song Fei’s inattentiveness. In the past, this kind of inattentiveness would’ve affected Song Fei’s grades and the relationship between the two of them at most. But now, the tiniest bit of negligence could result in death!

His companions also felt that Song Fei going right up and kicking down the door was rather senseless. But, standing in Song Fei’s shoes, having no idea Qi Yan had lost his phone, then suddenly hearing the exact same song, and such an unpopular song at that, it was also understandable for him to assume that it was Qi Yan. So, once Qi Yan berated him rapid-fire, while Song Fei’s head was lowered as he dutifully stood there without talking back, they felt it was a bit hard for them to just stand by and watch.

“Okay, okay, it’s not like he did it on purpose.”

“If he’d known that there was a zombie inside, then he wouldn’t have dared to kick down the door even if you wanted him to, ah.” QVLJdY

“Look at how pitiful he looks. He must’ve truly learned that impulsiveness is the root of all evil.”

“Is there a stick around, we need to find something to block the window with ba…”

The frequency of Song Fei being unreliable was much too high, so this wasn’t the first time Qi Yan had said something like this to him. But, in the past, regardless of whether he was right or wrong, Song Fei would always try to one-up him. Putting it nicely, he was sharing his thoughts with him. But, in reality, he was basically just being unreasonable. Qi Yan didn’t have a very good temper either. To be more precise, he’d even frighten himself with how angry he’d get sometimes when his rationality was no longer holding the reins. So usually, whenever he felt he was about to blow his gasket, he’d immediately stop quarreling with Song Fei. When he’d say, let’s both calm down a bit, he’d really meant for it to be taken at face-value, because he wanted to prevent himself from saying something out of anger he’d come to dearly regret. But, Song Fei wasn’t used to this, and would always say that he was just being passive-aggressive, while he also didn’t bother explaining himself.

But this time, he’d scolded him for a long time, yet he’d actually lowered his head to listen without making a single peep. orN23g

Qi Yan was taller than Song Fei. Once Song Fei lowered his head like this, the angle prevented Qi Yan from catching even a glimpse of the other person’s expression, causing him to feel a little flustered.

“I won’t do it again,” he finally said in a muffled voice with his head bowed, “In the future, anytime I do anything, I’ll definitely think about it first.”

Qi Yan was stunned. In the past, he’d perpetually wished that Song Fei would just obediently heed his advice and stop messing around. But, now that his wish had actually been fulfilled, he realized that something seemed off.

“Okay la, what’re you doing ah, it’s like you’re disciplining your son or something. You didn’t tell him that you left your phone outside either, ma.” Lin Dilei stepped in, looping her arm around Song Fei’s, then hauled him out of the bathroom. 8I PfX

Only Zhou Yilu, Qiao Siqi and Luo Geng were left; one dumbfounded, the other emotional, while the last one was filled with admiration—

Luo Geng: “Does gay dating always adhere to this teacher-centered approach?”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Zhou Yilu: “Two guys dating each other is just this nice, ah. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. No one has to wrong himself by unconditionally caving in each time the other person acts all spoiled.”

Qiao Siqi: “I was worried you wouldn’t be able to hold onto him. Now it looks like xiaodi here was thinking too much.” N5wy3c

Qi Yan wasn’t in the mood for idle chit-chat. He was still preoccupied by Song Fei’s abnormal behavior.

Lin Dilei dragged Song Fei along until they were just far enough away, where no one else could hear them, before she playfully poked at the latter’s lifeless face: “Is there any need for all this ah. After getting lectured a bit, you look like someone kicked your puppy. Since when was your skin this thin?”

“No,” Song Fei scratched his head with a heihei, “I was just thinking I really am pretty stupid. ”

Lin Dilei made a face: “Qi Yan already scolded you rather comprehensively. There’s no need for you to add anything yourself.” kIQMOX

Song Fei gave a bitter smile, but didn’t explain any further.

What he’d done today had indeed been foolish, but what had made him feel especially stupid was the instant peace of mind he’d actually felt the moment he’d believed it was Qi Yan next door upon hearing that song.

Feeling he wouldn’t be afraid even if the sky collapsed and earth crumbled as long as that person was by his side was so pathetic, even he looked down on himself for it.

Luckily, the person who’d been busy telling him off hadn’t detected these minor details. Otherwise he’d really have to dig himself a hole somewhere to crawl into. B1xigz

Right after they’d broken up, the people in the group had kept on asking him, what on Earth do you have against Qi Yan that makes you so dead set on breaking up with him. Each time, Song Fei would always respond with fairly generic reasons, like their personalities were incompatible la, their three views clashed la, or their interests didn’t align la, etc. Only he knew that these prettily-packaged lies were far from the truth.

He was just tired. Much too tired.

Compared to him, Qi Yan was far too outstanding. This was something he’d never been willing to admit to Qi Yan in person, but was a fact he’d actually long since accepted in his heart. He’d wanted to spend the rest of his life by Qi Yan’s side. He’d tried to catch up to him countless times, but it’d just been too difficult. He’d fallen in love with a big tree, but he’d only ever be a mere blade of grass in this lifetime. If the big tree didn’t mind a small blade of grass keeping him company, then they’d be able to happily coexist side-by-side. Unfortunately, the big tree was fixated on pushing the small blade of grass to grow just as tall as he was. The little blade of grass had tried to, but couldn’t do it. The big tree still wouldn’t give up, determined to pull him up.

If things had continued on this way, one day, that blade of grass would’ve been uprooted by the big tree. And once the big tree finally realized that the blade of grass would never become a tree, and let go, giving up at last, the blade of grass that had already left the soil would’ve wilted and died. 2grdk5

Song Fei didn’t want to wait for that day to arrive.

But, he was also acutely aware of just how incredibly reluctant he’d actually felt on the inside when he’d so readily declared an end to their relationship. That was a big tree ah. If he missed out on this one, he might never find another one like it for the rest of his life.

So, he’d remained unable to completely cut him off, playing at still being friends or whatever after their break-up.

Until just now. qNg GP

He’d decided to really give up on Qi Yan. No more acting ambiguously, and no more flirting. No matter how great the blade of grass, it’d only ever be grass at the end of the day. He’d never be able to match up to that tree in this lifetime. Even if the other person was okay with keeping him around, anytime that person wanted to look at him, he’d still have to lower his head to gaze down at him. It wasn’t Qi Yan’s fault. This was something that’d been set in stone from the very start. When they’d argued in the past, Qi Yan had always told him that he was refusing to confront his own problems. Now, he understood at last. It was called being self-aware.

Besides, the most important thing right now was for them to stay alive. It didn’t matter if he was distracted by his own personal issues, but everyone else’s safety was also at stake. So, from here on out, his performance had to mimic the effects of a 20% buff. He couldn’t act on his whims any longer, daydreaming while muddling through life.

—In his nineteen years of life, this was the very first time Song Fei had made up his mind to turn over a new leaf, eager to become a good blade of grass that wouldn’t hold anyone else back.

In the end, the six companions moved the corpse to the lounge, then taped five ink brushes together and placed it on the rails, before soundly taping the bundle to the rails as well, finally securing the ventilation window in the bathroom. But, just in case, they still moved over a narrow, half-a-person-tall locker from the staff lounge to block the door to that stall from the outside. Now, if another zombie broke through the window and climbed in, it’d need the strength to push the locker aside if it wanted to leave the bathroom. At that time, the screeching of the metal locker scraping against the marble flooring would be enough to alert them. LbsVul

After accomplishing all of this, everyone finally breathed a great sigh of relief. They returned to their blanketed living area, and began to analyze and summarize their findings.

The main culprit, Qi Yan, prepared to give his statement first. But, before he began, he stole a peek at Song Fei. He discovered that the person in question, like everyone else, had a serious look on his face with pen and paper in hand, appearing focused like he was ready to take notes in class. Song Fei was no longer loafing about. Normally, this would practically be a joyous occasion worthy of celebration. But now, Qi Yan only felt unsettled. It felt as though something was quietly changing, like something was slipping from his grasp, escaping his control.

Everyone was watching him, so Qi Yan pulled himself together, and said: “When I threw my phone onto the ground, the song was still playing, but just in case, I also set an alarm. If the player was accidentally paused, the alarm would be able to take over for it. The song that suddenly started playing when Song Fei was in the bathroom and the one that started playing once we got there both began from the first verse, proving that they played because of the alarm. Therefore, a curious zombie picking up the phone, then climbing into the bathroom through the ventilation window seems to be the most likely scenario. Whether it climbed in by accident or did it on purpose remains to be determined.”

“It should be on purpose,” Luo Geng pondered for a moment, then said, “Remember Cui Menghan? We thought that it only climbed up because its body used to be flexible when it was still alive, but now that I think about it, many of the zombies on the ground had actually wanted to grab ahold of the bed sheets at the time, just that only Cui Menghan managed to climb up in the end. Similarly, perhaps there were many zombies who wanted to climb through the ventilation window, but only that one happened to succeed?” 05fGTJ

Zhou Yilu drew a sharp breath: “You mean… their intelligence hasn’t completely deteriorated?”

Qi Yan’s eyes narrowed: “At the very least, they can still imitate others.”

The atmosphere suddenly became heavy.

Whether it was climbing up the bed sheets or climbing through the ventilation window, they were all things that they’d done first, before the zombies had followed suit. There was no way for them to refute Qi Yan’s deduction. Although the ventilation window in the bathroom was at a much lower height than the one Qi Yan had climbed through, just eyeing it, the zombies certainly wouldn’t have needed to pyramid-stack in order to reach it. But, even if they really were only imitating the simple action of climbing, it was still enough to drown them in despair. nOpeB1

“I have a question,” Song Fei raised his hand, “Uh, did you lock your screen before you ditched your phone?”

Qi Yan was taken aback. Originally, his first thought had been that Song Fei was just trying to raise a fuss. But, after hearing his question, he had a rough understanding of his doubts, and seriously responded: “I locked it, but the music still could’ve been paused by mistake even with the screen locked.”

Song Fei: “Then, was the screen still lit up when we let you in?”

Qi Yan was silent. After a long while, he slowly shook his head: “No, it’d already turned off.” 4X gfR

Song Fei: “So, they had to first accidentally touch the Home button to turn on the screen, then accidentally press on the pause button to stop the music too.”

Qiao Siqi: “Plus, it had to be curious enough to hold onto it, climb through the ventilation window, then sit on the toilet to continue studying it.”

Zhou Yilu: “Can you two stop talking, I’m getting chills…”

Lin Dilei: “It might just be a coincidence. We shouldn’t scare ourselves like that.” AI0xHK

“Or,” Song Fei tilted his head, and thought about it, “Their bodies still have some leftover… what’s it called again, muscle memory? For example, if we were to use our phones right now, I guarantee all of us can unlock our screens without even thinking about it. Could it be the same for them?”

“It’s also possible it’s just memory,” Qi Yan looked at Song Fei, actually participating in a serious discussion with him for once, “Since their intelligence hasn’t completely declined, or at least they still have some residual imitation abilities, then it’s also possible that they could’ve retained some of their memories.”

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Song Fei nodded vigorously, but avoided Qi Yan’s gaze, pretending to very diligently take some notes.

Or, was he actually being very diligent? m7QDq8

Qi Yan was unable to reach a verdict either way. This wasn’t the Song Fei he was familiar with, nor was this their usual way of getting along. Although they’d broken up in name, the special kind of ambiguity that could only be felt by the two of them had never disappeared from beginning to end. And it was exactly this feeling that’d convinced him that they would never actually split up.

Song Fei liked him. Qi Yan was sure of this. Anytime Song Fei flirted with him, he’d noticed it, and was willing to take the bait, because he enjoyed it too. He was the type of person who liked taking the initiative in anything he did, and his relationship was no exception. When Song Fei had said that he wanted to break up with him, he really had been knocked off-kilter for a bit. But, after a few encounters, he had come to the understanding that this person was just throwing a fit, and wouldn’t actually go through with it.

But now, he was suddenly not so sure anymore.

This is a slightly spoiler-y comment from author-dada about the future direction our lovely MC’s relationship will be taking, so please read at your own risk. Bfe91Y

The author has something to say:

This roadblock is only temporary, sprinkling sugar is still the main theme~~ so friends, don’t worry la~~ The two of them actually have their own problems to deal with, and from their own points of views, they each feel that it’s the other person that needs to change. But, true love will definitely inspire gradual growth in both people when they’re together da!

Author’s Chapter Summary: Zombies are all special snowflakes, let’s decipher their secrets together!

The translator has something to say: Song Fei likens himself to a blade of grass, whereas Qi Yan likens him to a sunflower. But, how you make someone feel matters more than what you may think of them on the inside. Imagine the person you like consistently defaulting to treating you like an errant child in need of proper guidance from their “betters”. I’m sure his affection for him isn’t false, but it’s almost condescendingly paternal, rather than one between equals, filled with utter shock anytime he even “uses his brain”. Especially as readers that can “hear” each of their inner monologues, it’s more than a bit discouraging. But also as readers, we’re here to watch our bbys grow and gradually go through some ~character development~, so jiayou ah, Song Fei!

The editor has something to say: I had imagined a scene of a knight in shining armor coming to save Song Fei at the end of the last chapter, but I guess we all underestimated him just like he underestimates himself as we have seen time (when he saved QSQ) and time again (dealing with the bathroom zombie). Honestly, I think it’s a lack of faith in himself especially since Qi Yan is so outstanding so he kept trying to compare himself to him. It was nice to see how they view each other and how we got a better understanding of their internal struggles. It’ll just make the scene of them making up all the much sweeter~ hfHE3F

  1. Lucky Song Fei is all right and the rest got into the toilet and save Song Fei in time.

The zombies are getting more and more unpredicted

    Thanks for the chapter

  2. I was not expecting this chapter to get me as emotional as it did. But at this moment, I agree with Song Fei, it is time to let him go.

    thanks for the chapter <3

    • i actually love this chapter lots bc of the special insight we get into Song Fei’s thoughts here. my heart honestly hurt for him when he was talking about being a blade of grass like he thinks he wont amount to much more than that

      thanks for reading!

  3. I don’t understand why Qi Yan blames this on Song Fei? If Song Fei didnt became careless they will not find out that there’s a zombie and the ventilation lock is broken. And if they will not solve this problem theres a tendency wherein a lot of zombies climbing in (when theyre sleeping) which will result of them being compressed in a cubicle (the door of the cubicle is not locked), therefore other zombies possibly crawl above or below the cubicle to get out from the cr. And if that possibility will happen when they’re sleeping then they will “surely” be in danger. They were saved because of Song Fei’s so-called carelessness, but instead of them thanking him then why is Qi Yan blaming him for that matter? Its fine if he can’t thank him for that, but blaming him? Its purely ignorance. Yes Qi Yan is really smart but I guess Song Fei has “common sense”. Thats why I hate some intelligent (high IQ) people because they are self centered (low EQ).

And why would SF belittle himself? At least SF has higher EQ compared than his partner so he must be proud of himself. I hope SF will really let him go, because their relationship is too toxic. QY thinks highly of himself, whenever they argue he keeps on making SF think that he himself is the one who’s in right, and I dont like that. I hope that SF will not hold on because I believe that there would be someone who will treasure him and will treat him above the other’s own self, and QY is not that person. QY is too self centered, remember the time they are together and they found weapons ti use against the zombies. Instead of giving “his partner/boyfriend/ex bf” a good weapon to protect his self well ge just let him use a fan. Oh my… QY is an athlete he can use whatever as a weapon but SF is not (I suppose he isn’t that atheletic) its just good that he has “sense” that made him survive with a fan and chopsticks until now. Most (esp himself) think that he was saved by QY. But I think otherwise… SF was saved by his own sense, luck, and wisdom. Its not QY saved SF, its SF saved the other. When QY climbed up from his room to SF’s he didn’t brought any food, so without SF, I suppose QY already went mad due to hunger the 2nd day the zombie outbreak happened, he even asked SF to save food without thinking that the other already saved his fill and went hunger (they’re from cafeteria that time so why didn’t he think to bring foods when escaping). Hahaha I know the last part of what I said is senseless… but overall QY is too damn selfish…

    • While I do see what some of what you have said has merit as a part of why QY acts this way is probably because he’s so used to doing things in a “smarter way” so he expects the same out of SF or at least that’s what I think (like he has higher standards for SF). however in this case, QY is actually blaming SF for being so careless as to just break the door down without second thought because that put him in grave danger and put the rest of them in danger as the zombie wouldn’t have been released to run around wildly otherwise. So he isn’t blaming him solely because he thinks he endangered the rest of them as he thinks if SF just took the time to think it through when he heard the song that it couldn’t be QY in the next stall because he didn’t come with him when he went to the bathroom, they could have taken the zombie down and found out about the ventilation window in a safer way where no one would be taking a risk.

And I definitely agree that SF needs to give himself more credit as he reacts quickly and is able to adapt to unexpected situations quickly as well which is a plus in this type of apocalyptic environment. And as the author says, all of these choppy waves in their relationship is only temporary and while it may seem really ugly now, it’s all just laying down the stones for the path to character growth and eventually a better understanding of each other. It’s a growth and learning process for the both of them so let’s wait patiently and see how our author-dada plans to proceed with where this all takes them, how they’ll overcome all of it, and how they will make up for each others shortcomings when they have a better understanding of where the other is coming from. So don’t worry we’ll get a better understanding of them as characters later on as well~

Sorry for the long response, but I hope this cleared some things up or at least gave you a different viewpoint to consider. Thanks for reading~

      • You’ve probably finished the novel already considering how long ago this comment was, so you can ignore this but yes I see this as actually a terrible level of low EQ from the ml.

As much as the point stands that the mc was incredibly rash, to say you wouldn’t try to see who was in the stall next to you in that immediate moment is hard to say. Even if most of us are smart enough to know we should call for help to check it, when we hear a sound we don’t know, isn’t it our instinct to see where and who it came from? No one is perfect and in a stressed and scary situation, the mc was trying to fill in the gals of his understanding in a way that wouldn’t make him MORE scared. I think the mc is more in the wrong for yelling at the mc in this moment than the mc was for opening the door. Bc a. Anyone could unconsciously make that mistake of checking out the sound alone just as a reflex even if it’s wrong, b. It’s not like the mc opened the window to let the zombie in, it was in there already so it’s not his fault that he ended up fighting a zombie (alone, however is a mistake that anyone could make) so he was just in reaction mode, but c. The ml made a conscious decision to scold the mc extremely harshly RIGHT AFTER the mc handled the zombie all by himself and basically missed death, which is extremely poor EQ. basically kicking you after you came out of a battle alive bc you made the wrong moves. Anyone who did that would be considered a terrible leader, and if that’s supposed to be someone who is your (ex)bf? Get out of here. You would be considered even worse. Although the ml wasn’t wrong, he did the mc hella wrong but yelling at him. This could’ve been a nonagressive text. But hey no one is perfect, but having a partner who says they can’t control their anger is kinda scary ayo… But it obviously could all be resolved with a good real healthy adult conversation. Lol but they’re young adults so we’ll see.

    • mn, I have a feeling you may enjoy the next chapter then. like you said, I also think this is very much a case of high IQ/lower EQ. although from what i can see, QY is unintentionally being dismissive, it’s not any less hurtful. SF letting go of him rn would be ideal, bc they both need to grow as ppl before even considering getting into a relationship with anyone, period, imo. these kinds of issues lead to a bunch of clashes that couldve been otherwise avoided. in real life, i find that often happens too, the right ppl meeting at the wrong time. however, i hope this doesnt put you off from continuing to follow bby Song Fei and co. on their Zombie University journey! i’ve actually read the entire book already and I like the direction author-dada takes the story in, and how the characters have more realistic relationships/personalities and grow together. this novel has a lovely Character Growth + Couple Growth tag, so there is improvement to look forward to!
    • I also agree with you, in my opinion SF didn’t deserve that scolding after all he reacted like that because of logic, how the hell would you even think that a zombie would climb the window without making a sound sit down on the toilet and play a song?? And that song being the one only QY has?? And again he didn’t know QY threw his phone, so concluding that it was QY was logical, and they feel safe being in a safer environment so of course they would lower their guard, and lets be honest SF hasn’t really acted careless or whatever since the star of the apocalypse even saving people from the beginning so I don’t understand why they think it is his fault?
  4. I’m glad QY is being shaken. He needs this sense of crisis to become a better partner for Song Fei. Just as Song Fei needs to build his own confidence. I agree that QY is/was way too condescending during their relationship. These two definitely need a good talk.

    • True. Well I don’t believe that Song Fei is a type of person who will never concede or accept defeat. I guess during their relationship it is QY made SF feel that he is the one who’s right, that he is above SF or far more superior than him, which made SF feel insecure. And thats why instead of him surrendering to QY because it is his mistake, he will stand and fight for what he choose because he doesn’t want to lose his self in the process of holding someone (QY), who can easily let him go

    • they def do. the sad part is honestly he thinks some p nice things about Song Fei on the inside sometimes from what we can see when it’s actually written in his POV, like his monologue about SF being a sunflower and it’s clear he cares about him since he Spiderman’d up and waited outside the exam hall in the cold for SF to show up, etc. but their lack of communication bc all he opens his mouth to do rlly is insult him obviously is unfair for SF bc u cant just like think nice things and never say them that’s practically useless for the other person in the relationship. plus thinking nice things does not negate all the mean things he is thinking or saying out loud.
  5. QwQ cheering for Song Fei too… If he’s a blade of grass then he’s my favorite one QAQ

  6. I always thought calling someone/-thing a ‘special snowflake’ is just a synonym for being utterly stupid xD So how can the zombies have little secrets? xDD Okay, they obvisiouly have them but well, you know what I mean?… Okay, I’ll just leave x’D

    Thx for the ch ٩(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )و

    • hahaha we were just having a lil bit of fun with the author’s note since it doesn’t have much bearing on the actual chapter itself. to be more accurate, the tl would prolly just be “the zombies have special characteristics”. iirc ‘special snowflake’ normally has a slightly less negative connotation for someone who thinks they’re special or should be treated better than others, while ‘snowflake’ by itself has a slightly greater negative connotation, currently a fairly political term in the United States that insinuates someone “gets their feelings hurt too easily”

  7. I feel like crying at Song Fei’s self depracation cuz I really really relate to him a lot as an academically average student with a strict mother who has high expectations. Now I’m a Song Fei kinnie<3

  8. It’s heartbreaking that Song Fei feels that way so I agree he should let go. The way it is, isn’t going well for both of them. So I’m looking forward to their growth 😉

Thank you for the chapter ❤️

  9. SF monologue is so on point and I honestly teared. I think there’s one thing that the author missed. I don’t think that SF feels like it should be QY that should change. Obviously, SF has been trying to follow his pace but it was QY that wouldn’t meet him at least half way or appreciate the effort. I do relate with QY and the future he thought was true. I walked farther than him and at the end, I only felt tired, angry, and most of all, ugly. QY only felt his stubbornness and lecture him for his carelessness but the days when SF was going to the library, trying to run with him at night, etc. did it cross his mind?
  10. Honestly the more I think about the more QL pisses me off. Lool. He really has a holier than thou attitude and KNOWS he thinks little of of SF. Look no one was born with survival zombies common sense. Some people are born with no street common sense too. So the whole yelling thing was so out of hand. An obvious culmination of all of QL’s dislikes and resentment of SF from the relationship.

QL thinks he better bc he yells at SF for endangering people by not thinking twice in a situation where people have never had to think about zombies in the bathroom before. It’s only day 5, and some people are not dumb, they’re just slower learners. Second, he blames him for endangering ppl, but he never slaps himself in the face and apologizes for his part in this incident, endangering SF by not mentioning he left the phone outside. He didn’t think he had to. GUESS WHAT. SF DIDNT THINK HE HAD A ZOMBIE IN THE BATHROOM EITHER. But who is the one who is “inconsiderate” & “in the wrong” bc of this zombie situation no one could have been mentally prepared for? SF of course. It’s like yelling at someone for being at the wrong place doing the wrong reaction to the situation WHICH IS A ZOMBIE situation THAT IS OUT OF THE HANDS of EVERYONE.

The reason why QL can yell at SF is because he inherently thinks SF is dumb. The reason why SF doesn’t fight back and meekly accepts the scolding is bc facing his ex’s obviously perception of himself as an idiot reaffirms he is one and makes him think he is one. When guess what you could have complimented him for handling the surprise zombie situation so well and warning him at the same time.

But that would require QL to think SF was capable…
