Translator's Note

term of endearment to the Sixth Princess

Translator's Note

he is using “he” but since it sounds the same as the “she” in chinese it’s not clear to the listener but the author writes what she wants so

Translator's Note

one chi is 0.333m so technically eight chi is 2.666m…?? This is unscientific… Let’s just all assume he is 2m or smthn;;;

Translator's Note

the author writes “he” but technically when the emperor says it, it could mean “she” since it sounds the same… maybe the author is implying that the emperor knows?

Translator's Note

I’m a bit confused but I assume it’s the hidden surging of feelings for each other

Translator's Note

in chinese, the “Jing” in Jing Zhou means thorny bush

Translator's Note

a sigh

Translator's Note

basically, to not give respect to them

Translator's Note

an idiom that means to make frequent and unpredictable changes in policy

Translator's Note

if you read a lot of chinese translated novels you would probably know that “face” basically means pride/prestige/reputation so in this case, the royal family would suffer a loss in prestige

  1. I am also starting to feel bad for Qi Lan, stuck with this slag man. I hope she takes her son and starts a new life in the countryside with a new name. She could be a successful merchant or something and Zhou Xu would hopefully let her off.

  2. Just trying to get a job change led to a beheading. The emperors in these stories sure are whimsical.

Qi Lan worked hard, but it looks like her efforts were all for naught. I suppose this is expected from a husband who had sex with her before marriage in times like these. It showed how irresponsible he was. Qi Lan did the deed as well, but she was still naive and from a future world; worse yet, this place is ancient China, so women don’t have much independence…

  3. I think the bad thing Qi Lan do so far is her repeated inappropriate behaviour which she had paid for. What is it that makes her so fixated in zzh anyway…

Ah…poor baby…I hope zhou xu want to take care of zzh baby after his dad die and mom probably go crazy. He is innocent after all.

    • He probably won’t because why would he take care of his enemy’s child? Its already good enough for him to ignore the child, but don’t worry the child already has a family to take care of him, we can only hope that he will have a good life away from his ambitious parents.

      • I meant take care like keep paying necessary child expenses to the adoptive parent not take the boy as his own. Because even though zzh is zx enemy, the boy is still zx nephew.

But yeah maybe its too much.

And you are right, its better that he is away from that kind of parents. He might grow to be a good person.

  4. I honestly don’t feel bad for Qi Lan at all! She wasn’t naive, she was arrogant. She thinks just because she is from the future and knows a lot more that her life would be smooth sailing without even considering the time and culture she is in! She had the excuse when she first transmigrated, but after how many months living there, she should know by know what she can do and say and what she can’t do and say.

    • rather than arrogant, i think she’s willfully ignorant. she knows what she knows and doesn’t consider she might not know the whole story. zzh knows exactly what he’s doing but qi lan who is restricted to the inner courtyard still wholeheartedly believes him even though she’s been living with the family and should know that maybe zzh isn’t that great considering she had to help out with his essay it seems he didn’t add anything to it.

this couple is willing to kneel, cry, and get beaten. they’re going forward knowing that. but there is this stubborn belief that THEY will all turn out all right.

but they’re not gonna get the chop yet. it can’t be that easy. zx will probably say a few words and be praised in the family courtyard as a loving brother, slapping zzh’s face considering zzh’s persistent portrayal of himself as a victim.

      • I think she is a combination of the two : wilfully ignorant because after some time you can’t have the excuse of not knowing anything when the truth is thrown in your face time and time again. Arrogant because despite all that she still believes her husband is the best, her knowledge is the best and that no matter what happens everything will be fine as long as it’s them!

  5. Poor Qi Lan. She will regret this.

    Thank you for the chapter.

  6. … straight to beheading!! XD XD XD

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!

  7. The author is trying way too hard to paint Zhou Zong han and Qi Lan to be bad people. I simply don’t understand Zhou Yong’s attitude towards ZZH but then again he doesn’t seem to be a good father, except towards Zhou Xu. As for Prime minister Qi, he’s attitude is just plain poor. I couldn’t understand why he beat up ZZH in the first place. Was what he said that bad? Even the Emperor acts crazy over such a small issue. Why assign a better place to a fifth ranked person while a fourth ranked scholar given such a place? Sure, in the original world he killed ppl senselessly but in this lifetime he hasn’t done anything that bad. Why is he considered a slag man at this point?

    Anyways, thanks for the chapter

    • Probably bcs he get his granddaughter pregnant before mariage and making his family a laughingstock that’s why he dislike him so much, even parents in modern day will be disappointed if that happened to their children,

  8. I’m loving this novel more and more 😍

Thank you for the translation and good work

  9. The sixth princess is an ephemeral beauty of royal lineage, but this small official has no fate with her because this small official’s heart already belongs to someone else.

[uh did he really say ephemeral beauty? ephemeral meaning lasting for a very short time]

    • Yep, apparently that’s a thing. An ephemeral beauty is more fairylike or pure, because it’s “fleeting”, it seems like the person isn’t really from this world, as if she could disappear at any given moment. It’s like saying someone is a small flicker of light, somehow that’s cuter and lovelier than a big fire, because it’s fragile.

  10. It’s that bad to ask to be send to a better place?! They all know that place kills your career and his career hasn’t even started and the five and six got a good place. I mean, who will care if the emperor sends some small official somewhere else than previously? That dragon has got a temper!

  11. sigh, Why do I find them pitiful. They know it’s bad to go against the decree. It’s not like he is transmigrated. Oh, I wish he was so that his behavior is more acceptable due to his ignorance of the world instead of someone native that knows how the world goes. ugh stupid. I really feel like something is controlling him to destroy his life xD

  12. I actually pity Qi Lan. And correct me if wrong but she was never malicious towards anyone at all. ZZH was the only one who refuse to look forward and better himself.

  13. Wouldnt he be able to display his talents more if the province is poverty-stricken? He also has his wife’s golden finger ah
