  1. Wholeheartedly agree with your comment. I was so annoyed of this “you are my wife first”. I guess it can be forgiven a little given our xiao gong was going ad on house arrest while mhz played in the court, but still. Not cool!

  2. …I think it all played out as it should. And as a widow – I’m actually reminded of my late hubby’s mischievousness with JS. Acts like a king sometimes, but treats me as his only queen most of the time ( ya got a hubby who won’t let you do laundry coz the detergent irritates your skin? ). I miss that rascal and hope to meet him at “Naihe Qiao”. Perhaps JS does act incorrigible sometimes, but he does it more like a child throwing a tantrum, acting like a spoiled brat. He’s kept his promise to MHZ tho… the only one he’ll love, hold and cherish. I doubt what JS did was meant to demean MHZ in any way.

But, I guess this may perhaps be an unpopular opinion.

    • I agree with your analysis. I also feel that Jing Shao and Mu Hanzhang balance each other out in the sense that just like JS can be too much of a troublemaker, MHZ can be too inflexible at times. Neither of them is perfect.

P.S. Your late husband must have been a very good person 🤗

    • I agree with you. A couple’s family dynamics can’t be judged on a single act. JS pampers and loves only MHZ. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do and wouldn’t sacrifice. MHZ has a scholar’s refinement and can’t always tolerate JS’s thirst. He nevertheless will do anything and will sacrifice himself for JS when called for – we’ve seen the proof in ‘their past life’.

    • Yes. Tbh, I don’t see the same issue as translator’s note, probably because I am asian myself. Southeast asian. I saw it as sweet scene and long for my future husband to say that to me one day. And in the end, MHZ missing court that day is lucky (probably already part of JC and JS plan). If not, he probably gonna get mixed up or worst Emperor might had his sudden whim to do unexpected action (as Emperor is ‘seen’ to like MHZ’s personality but he still might put his Emperor’s agenda ahead of MHZ’s safety unlike JS and JC).

    • I agree. While I did get a tiny bit annoyed by JS’s comment I don’t think he said it in a demeaning way nor that he truly thinks like that. JS has proven through action time and time again that he does support MHZ and is happy to see his wangfei succeed in life. He also played a big role in MHZ getting his official role and title. I think it was just teasing and JS missing his spouce, nothing more.

    • I share you opinion. I know and appreciates how much I am cherished and pampered by my husband. So even if he has moments of needing to get his way, it doesn’t change our fundamental loving, respectful relationship. I think the author does a excellent job in this instance of showing how complex the dynamics in a relationship can be. I also suspect that JS wanted to save his WangFei from the sympathy and ridicule of those in the court since he knew he wouldn’t be chosen to for this campaign.

  3. oho, so in the end, the fourth prince will go huh~ anddd Jing Shao is so immature, although i know he only wants Hanzhang~ thank u for the chapter!!

  4. Thank you for the chapter!

I think JS purposefully did that as to avoid ridicule and pity from court (as seen at the end of the chapter). JS was playing the villain. I doubt JS meant for it to hold any meaning though (we can’t say the same for how MHZ sees it though) , with the title of this story lol and we can see previously, JS was always willing to let MHZ take all glory as possible, allowing him to have a business, to be a primary actor in the field, to make use of the skills his Wang Fei has because he knows his Wang Fei loved being able to do scholarly practices. MHZ thought he wouldn’t be able to anymore being sent as a wife, but JS has always been supportive through and through. JS might be a brat and sulk though because he’s a child and he feels lonely easily lol

And with consent, between married couples’ dynamics, we really can’t say much about how they go on about yeses and noes.

    Excited for the project!

  5. Well, in JS’ defense, at the start of the story he vowed how he will make his wife his top priority above his status as a prince and a possible heir to the throne so somehow unconsciously he also demanded the same from his wife. And I think he knows what will ultimately happen so he just spared his wifey from bothersome things and enjoy it at the same time lol but yeah, consent 🤦

  6. This chapter gives me another meaning to the title “The wife is first” – naturely JQ comes first for his hubby, but also that he is the wife first.

Well his wording could have been be tter, but I don’t he has the heart to be actually mean to JQ. Maybe like somebody already mentioned, he didn’t won’t him to go cause he knew he won’t be chosen and didn’t want his Wang Fei to be pitied 🤔

    And I can’t wait for 4th prince “easy Victory”🤭

  7. Nah, Jing Shao is actually smart. He knows the fourth prince will finally be sent to Jiangnan, that’s why he can’t be bothered. He’s just being playful.

Thank you for the update ❤️

    • yes, i think so too..we might forget he has lives two lives..even though he is not as wicked minded as those scheming court people..he still xan guess his father decision the fourth prince request to lead the troops.

  8. Thank you for the translation! I don’t think JS meant to be like actually forceful. I think he tried to be playful but his wording could have been much better. Definitely needs to work on that

  9. Hi JS is too selfish but I can’t wait to laugh at the fourth prince failure. I hate that mother & son duo

  10. It would’ve been nice if Jing Shao had communicated properly that he just wanted to give Mu Hanzhang an excuse not to show up in court for that decision, but Mu Hanzhang is very responsible and probably wouldn’t have agreed… Jing Shao can get away with being willful, though, far more than Mu Hanzhang can (in terms of court matters and skipping). Pretty sure he brought out the “wife” identity to make it seem like this was also a form of Mu Hanzhang fulfilling his duties rather than shirking them, so he wouldn’t feel bad about it after. On the other hand, it would be kind of funny (but still a terrible idea) if Jing Shao had planned to make Mu Hanzhang upset with him so Jing Shao would be able to play “in a bad mood” correctly after the fourth prince got the assignment… Well, if they actually argue over this, it might be a good chance for Jing Shao to make concessions in a similar vein as the “no concubines” thing

Thank you so much for translating! It’d be cool to have end of novel comments actually reach the author <3

  11. I do understand the annoying feeling about what’s is first and what’s the second, but JS dotted on his wang fei so much, that he always put his wife as the first priority then nation, so sometimes acting like a child in front of his own wife is not that bad at all. he already restrain himself in so many way, and this doing actually save hanzang from embarrassment, even hanzang I believe wouldn’t mind at all,.

now now darling, I hope you are healthy, keep happy and thank you so much for the hard work..

    • Same. I also feel like he will either get crippled or die. Or maybe suffer defeat, retreat and you know, bring shame to his country kind of thing. They really do deserve it.

Also, why is the last part of the chapter so ominous??? It’s kinda scary what the gloomy vibe is all about. I really think JS is eating tofu after the stunt he pulled eating Hanzang. 🍑

      • I’m more inclined towards the first one, the fourth prince getting crippled bc the Huanian king (i think that’s the name) is a strong opponent, JS through the novel keeps saying that :0

And I think JS is facing the cold shoulder (?) Like Hanzang is angry (????

        • The 4th prince may thing that the upcoming war is easy pickings, but I recall JS saying that the Huanian King was very intelligent, savvy and was one opponent on the battlefield that even he could not figure out. Someone is out to get a beating and its not the one with the Lion cub for sure!

As for getting a beating, I think JS will be kneeling on glasses (or walking very delicately) around HZ for gluttony before “saying grace”. He probably will endure it since he deliberately kept his wifey out of court and the politics, but HZ will likely not see it immediately that way.. until after the fact. We will all look forward to the dog food then.

  12. Respectfully I don’t think Jing Shao meant that Jun Qing is his wife first before he is his own person. Jun Qing is Cheng Wangfei first before he is Marquis Wenyuan, meaning he should be loyal to his husband first and the country second. It’s just the same as how JS put his wife first before his country. Pinning MHZ’s identity on “Marquis Wenyuan” is the same as saying he is nothing without his title. JS was betrayed by everyone in his previous life and his title meant nothing when he was escaping from the country with MHZ.

I also don’t think he would actually insist on having sex if MHZ really doesn’t want to do it. When they didn’t have sex for a long time because MHZ was afraid, MHZ didn’t even have to try to resist, as soon as his face showed that he was unwilling then JS would restrain himself. I think it’s the same here, if MHZ is truly upset I believe JS would feel guilty. Let’s just wait until the next chapter

  13. So… It’s bad???

    I’m so worried now….

Thank you for all the hardworks!!! Finally chose to read this novel, and I Love it so much!!!

  15. Thanks for the chapter! That 4th prince is going to get his jealous, foolish ass kicked, lol.

I have a feeling our silly prince pounced on his wifey on purpose to make him avoid the awkward mess at court.

    • Shao is Wang Ye/Cheng wang/ the third son of the emperor/ the second son of the previous Empress / and he’s the military guy/ top/Seme

Hanzhang is Jun Qing/the north marquis’s second son/the wife/the uke/ the person married to Jing Shao/ the one who died with jing Shao in his last life

Lol late reply but if you’re still confused I hope this helps😅

  16. On the contrary I feel like JS telling Hanzhang that was kinda like the quote is the description where it says “the wife is first and the country second” yk because JS feels like this for MH he also wants MH to put him first and everything else last. I honestly feel like this is how he feels but because he’s frustrated sexually and because of the house arrest it comes off aggressive! imo🤗

Thank you for the translation Dan Dan and all editors!!❤️🤗

  17. What lack of consent. Dude, that is just some playful banter between couples. If MH really don’t like it then MH will be firm and JS will stop. You people seem to forget that JS values MH’s consent which was especially highlighted at the beginning of their marriage. There are also many times where MH were firm with no s*x and JS comply to his wishes. So no, I don’t understand why do you think that the novel does not show consent. Besides, asking for consent does not need to always be verbal, couples, especially those that had been together through thick and thin can read their SO’s body cues.

  18. I feel what he said is right in two ways:

If you give MHZ two options to choose between the two roles which one would he give up on ? So he is obviously his wife first. Also first in the sense that he became his wife first then the Marquis. I feel they share the kind of relationship where their own identity kind of takes a back and for them being lovers to each other is always first. When you love someone so much you can never see them lower themselves like that so he definitely didnt meant it in that way.

  19. i also didnt quite liked how he acted but when i think about what he said, maybe what he wants to say is like how an emperor is a father first before he’s a leader? or sumn like that. we all know that the number one thing he wants is for hanzhang to be happy and not get hurt.

  20. Yeah, I feel you about that whole wife role is more important thing, and I felt super stressed when MC insisted on playing when there was an important thing going on at work. Though I do understand because I’m married myself, and there’s a lot of time I have to move around in order to not make my husband feel neglected because of work.

  21. don’t think too much. people of ancient times put wives’ position under their husband’s. literally and hierarchically. fufu. but since jun qing is a man, he has a lot more freedom to do what he wanted. however, in this book’s story, he is still the wife. men like to show their dominance, right?!

a… nyway. i thought jing shao would fight to become the battle commander. i’m quite curious about their real plan..

    thank you for the translations!
