“Wang Ye!” Mu Hanzhang pulled him back. “Change your clothes first and then go out.”
“Oh!” Jing Shao slapped his forehead; he forgot that his sister in law would also be there. Wearing just this out was lacking in manners, so he changed his clothes hurriedly. After waking up he didn’t think that he would be able to see his brother so soon. He only felt that there are so many words he must tell him and that this time he definitely can’t be muddleheaded.
“Wang Ye, this subject will not go.” Mu Hanzhang drew back the hand that was being pulled by Jing Shao.
“What’s wrong?” When paying a formal visit, even if it was his elder brother, he still had to make greetings and serve tea. They’d also prepare a greeting gift. Jing Shao stopped his steps and looked at him.
Mu Hanzhang pursed his lips: “Wang Ye did not go to the second prince’s residence because this subject was sick. Although he is one’s own brother, it is not worthwhile for a small misunderstanding to arise.”
We’re sorry for MTLers or people who like using reading mode, but our translations keep getting stolen by aggregators so we’re going to bring back the copy protection. If you need to MTL please retype the gibberish parts.

Mu Hanzhang looked at him and softly said: “This subject will remember, Wang Ye should hurry and go now.” He knows that Jing Shao’s feelings for this brother who shares the same mother with him is not ordinary. If he said those words straightforwardly, there would be suspicion of trying to instigate disharmony in their fraternal relationship. Since he was an outsider who has just crossed the threshold, it would be better for him to be careful with what he says.
“Is Jun Qing remembering to speak straightforwardly, or noting down that my brain doesn’t function well?” Jing Shao seeing him answer so fast, could not help but tease him.
“All remembered.” Mu Hanzhang’s expression was still as indifferent as before.
Jing Shao seeing him with such calm expression, felt that it was indescribably good-looking so after looking around and seeing that no one was paying attention, he stole a kiss on his cheek and then quickly went out the door.
Mu Hanzhang watched Jing Shao’s departing figure and slowly rubbed where he had been kissed on the cheek. The corner of his lips could not help but lift upwards.
Because the second prince came so suddenly, Jing Shao had no time to go out to welcome them and Duofu directly invited them into the tea room of the Ting Feng Pavilion. The Ting Feng Pavilion was where Jing Shao usually received guests, read books, and amused himself; it was already considered part of his inner courtyard, where he usually only accepted close guests. The layout of a prince’s manor was like this: the courtyard in front was considered part of the outer courtyard. Past the flower garden was precisely where the Ting Feng Pavilion was, and then behind the pavilion was the east residence and the west residence. Jing Shao lived in the east residence and in the west lived the womenfolk
The tea room is quite elegantly furnished. The elaborate tables and chairs, many were made in the Jiangnan style. On all four sides, apart from the pillars it was all decoratively carved. During the winter, when they circled around wearing winter clothes, it was quite warm. In the summertime, the four sides could be removed and allow for ventilation. On the flower shelf were placed several fresh seasonal flowers and a few thin vines were also wrapped around the pillars. At this time, buds have already begun to open, bringing forth a light yellow among the tender green, filling the pavilion with vitality.
The man sitting in the seat of honor in the tea room was dressed in a dark yellow long-garment for princes. His figure was slender and his appearance bright. He was only sitting there, but he had a powerful, not abrasive and dignified air. Using the five senses, he and Jing Shao were about seventy percent similar; it was only that Jing Shao was somewhat less austere, and a bit more calm. This person was Jing Shao’s brother from a common mother, Empress Yuan’s eldest son, Jing Chen.
Notes:
Stuff I thought about:
Ok so if I have the timeline right, JS’s mother (Empress Yuan) was empress before the current Empress Wu ( the one who forced him to marry a male consort). But his elder brother of the same mother is only the second prince… meaning Empress Wu most likely had a son before she was Empress that was born before JC and so after she ascended the throne her son became the legit first prince (because sons by consorts/concubines are illegitimate for the throne I believe?) This means that the first prince who is probably the one that Empress Wu is trying to enthrone is JS’s enemy!!! D;
I felt so smart after I thought about it since I’m not that good with conspiracy theories and complex schemes in general, but now that I typed it out, it sounds kinda dumb and obvious XDDDD
Anyone notice any other interesting hints for the future plot? 😀
Thank you for picking this up!
Q///Q thank you for picking up this novel aaaaaaa
The corner of his lips could not help but lift upwards.
at this line I can only think of 👀✨ emoticon only 😂😂
Thanks for picking this up
o(╥﹏╥)o
I’ve been desperately waiting for the update, but it never show up.
Anyways, I’m wondering if you could go back and redo the translation for Chapter 5.1 and 5.2?
I don’t understand what’s happening in those chapters, meanwhile I already finished translating Chapter 4.
Btw, as I mentioned before, I already have their permission to translate this story, so I hope I can translate from you too.
Thanks for the translation.
I’m happy you’re the one who’s doing it 💕💕💕
Which parts of 5.1 and 5.2 do you not understand? I can try to explain if you’d like 🙂
The part where Jing Shao said he can’t inherit the throne, JQ can’t participate in civil examination. Then we’re even.
I don’t understand why suddenly there’s an explanation that MHZ seems to feel lighter after hearing those words.
For me, reading it, I would probably be angry with JS words.
So I seriously can’t comprehend what was his meaning and why MHZ became light hearted afterwards?
I can’t understand..
Oh, okay.
But the development went off too fast it feels so strange.
If I translate it like that it’ll be too awkward, I think.
Oh well..
I’ll see how I can alter the translation later
Thanks for the explanation 😃
thanks 4 the chapter………
Yay!!! Thank you so much for picking this up!! ୧⍢⃝୨
Thank you so much for picking this up (and with permission (really important)) !! I know novels in ancient settings are hard to translate so thank you for your hard work (and courage lmao) because I love this story so much ajsmdkdlsl
Also, I don’t think sons of concubines/consorts aren’t illegitimate to the throne – I’ve seen and read too many stories where a favored concubine’s son was the best candidate for the throne (cue LOTS of problems). Anyways, royal family affairs are really complicated in general :’).
You’re welcome!!! I love this novel a lot too <3 Although the court politics are sure to be complicated, I bet our dear MHZ will be able to help JS out :333
No problem! I’m sure MHZ will accompany a lovestruck JS through all those difficult court thingies commonly know as ‘politics’ (urgh) but I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep up with schemes sprouting everywhere and subtle threats ;_;
Thx u so much for picking this story…

Based on the drama cd and as far as i understood, 1st prince was born out of a palace maid. As such he was married to a man too.
🙂
Ehhh??? There’s a drama CD??? I must go find and listen to it :DDDD
Only 3 part drama cd and it stops before male lead went to war.
So it is not a complete story…
Mao er FM have it
Thank you for picking this up!
Thanks for picking up this novel!!
“Is Jun Qing remembering to speak straightforwardly, or noting down that my brain doesn’t function well?” Jing Shao seeing him answer so fast, could not help but tease him.
I love the sweetness in this novel. Thanks for picking it up! (^-^)/
I’m terrible at conspiracy theories, too. When it all gets unraveled I think “ooh, how clever,” but I never bother to puzzle it out myself because it’s too confusing, especially imperial drama because there is a huge harem and so many factions. I understood more after reading your thoughts, so please do keep sharing them. Heehee.
Ikr!!! ML and MC are both so adorable~~~
If they sorta help then I guess I’ll keep sharing my outlandish conspiracy theories 😀
Yes, please ^-^
Heehee, I love how cute they’re being together.
Thank you so much for picking this up, MC amd ML are so sweet vand I tried Mtl-ing this but it’s so confusing,(maybe because this is ancient China??) I was so happy to see that you pick this up, bow
I’m glad you picked this novel up. It’s so good!
I like you use the chinese honorifics, si we can learn a little bit more.
Ahh, these two are so sweet together, and It’s just the beginning!
Thanks for the translation!
Thanks for the chapter~ (~ ̄▽ ̄)~
Stop with the gibberish protection! I use a text to speech app because of my poor eye sight and the gibberish is making it impossible for me to read the chapters! I can’t retype the whole thing and its painful to read it physically. Its completely ablist and unfair. Its completely ruined me being able to read this novel anymore.
The reason why many people use protective measures such as Google Translated chapters and links to pages is because aggregator sites take our hard work and profit off of it, which is extremely exploitative. I would argue that translators have rights to protect their work and at the end of the day, we don’t have to spend time and energy to provide this entertainment. Feel free to just read something else that works for you.
PS. Apologies if I come off as rude in anyway–I’m not trying to. It’s just hard to express things without tone through text.
Sends hugs and love. 💞
Some friends suggested some solutions such as making my Google Docs available which I thought was a good idea. I’ll have it linked on the novel page as well as here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/15Lj322_iuqsw4gA6zw3E18vtU4K7KLZe?usp=sharing
Thank you for picking this up.
