    I was rereading the novel again and just wondered if someone could explain why it was rude of JS to call MZH by his birth name instead of his courtesy name in the previous life? I get birth and courtesy names are different but am lost on the rudeness and cultural understanding. Do people still have both names now as well in China?

    • It’s not a thing anymore in present day– courtesy names are usually more respectful and descriptive based on one’s accomplishments, so not using it was considered disrespectful.

  6. I’m confused. So who does JS want to be married into the 4th prince’s household? The daughter of Duke Mao or North Marquis? It keeps zigzagging back and forth. 😂

    • JS doesn’t really want either to, since he married MHZ, if MHZ’s sister marries the 4th prince, it would be divisive since both princes are technically different factions in the battle for the throne. He just knows from his past life that the Duke’s daughter married and the Duke contributed a lot with him being falsely accused then imprisoned.

    • Gifting each other beautiful, untouched women as concubines was a thing, that’s why JS was careful that the one he sent was one he hadn’t slept with.

    • From what I remember, he did not sleep with this concubine yet.

    • Actually, before he was “reborn”, JS wasn’t nice to his older brother, but after he realised that he was just protecting him and changed his atitude. That’s why JS appreciate his brother and JC, seeing that he’s like this, can’t help but feel happy about it, so their relationship improved a lot 🙂

  17. Im this far in the novel, but the first cjapter still gets back to me from time to time.

    Especially the part where Jing Shao swore to take care of Jun Qing in the bext life, but he was no longer able to hear it as he just breath his last. Ughhhh… Come on self! Move on! 🥲
