Translator's Note

Killing obstacles/barrier does not literally mean obstacles that kill. Sahl and I think the author means XSZ has to kill to reach the next level in his cultivation level. Like a Wuxia FPS*. It’s kinda dark, when you think about it.
*First person shooter game

    • Probably, I mean as far as we know, he was blind and didn’t remember the real him in the illusion realm and GW may or may not have changed appearance. It looks like we have to wait and see what happens next with that.

  1. Did Gong Wei, perhaps, support Xu Shuangtze as his fiancé? Did Xu Shuangtze fall in love with him then, and feel cheated when they left? If he’s cultivating the path of no emotions, this whole entanglement with Gong Wei might have had some pretty bad effects… The fact that we’re introduced to this information right next to Gong Wei failing to understand people being attracted to him twice in a row sure does make it seem like what we’re supposed to get here is that Gong Wei managed to “innocent and curious” his way through an entire romance and didn’t even notice. And it seems Xu Shuangtze was blind at the time, which just adds a whole new layer of confusion to it all

    Thank you for translating! <3

    • I think you’re unto something. I don’t really remember how the “wife” was introduced but supposedly “her” portrait is near identical to GW, right?

It is quite possible, then, that inside the illusion XST was only able to catch the smallest glimpses of his “saviour” and once he came out his mind was still muddled. So, since he didn’t see his “savior” anywhere, only GW, he’d come to the wrong conclusion.. and naturally, GW just thought their enmity had gone a step too far for no reason right there.

It makes me wonder more and more as to what happened the day GW died– it’s really not simple at all. I also wonder if XST started distancing himself from GW because he found himself increasingly attracted to him– a big taboo for his No emotions path I’d say.

Hmm, I’m ever more curious but thank your for the chapter!

      • The portrait is of Gong Wei, indisputably. I think you both, (Coffee and Blank) raise valid and interesting points. I suspect Gong Wei may have posed as the wife within the Mirror Realm and somehow Xu Shuangtze gets the idea GW killed ‘her’. Which events take place in the Mirror Realm vs the real world are currently up for debate…unless we are still in the Mirror Realm…I don’t read ahead, so this is pure speculation on behalf of your friendly translation team. 😁

      • and it was said previously in the painting only the woman’s back was seen… and at the back of the painting was GW.. so it’s possible it is him… this all confusing because of the illusions … even us are being tricked 😂😂

  2. I’m getting more and more confused. What “wife”…? And why did XS think GW killed the wife? And why did he suddenly turn so hostile towards GW in real life (= not in that mirror world)? Because GW didn’t notice his feelings or something? I’m at a loss…

    • So, in an earlier chapter Xu Shuangtze’s ‘wife’ is mentioned by the disciples in his dream sequence. He supposedly has a portrait of her (a back view – though the portrait is double sided and the front view is on the other side…and it is actually a portrait of Gong Wei in wedding clothes). Comments above by Blank and Coffee is Justice (and myself) might help clarify a bit. Suffice to say the author is simply setting things up at this point. So far we’re not sure what has happened in the real world vs the Mirror Realm. At the moment Xu Shuangtze thinks GW killed his wife, but Gong Wei is most likely the wife. I think the hostility is based on a variety of things, but due in a large part to XST crushing hard on GW and GW being a bit oblivious. Hence I keep mentioning WangXian vibes. 😏 These tsundere boys…
    • I don’t think Xu Shuangtze needs any more encouraging with the actual stabbing. This is what has left him being a total Lan Zhan and brooding/moping/pining/grieving for 16 years…Unless you mean the other kind of ‘stabbing’, in which case – that is, er, …coming. (Pardon the pun). 😏 😁

    • We do too! Lol! Hopefully some of the threads are cleared up sooner rather than later. I think the author is trying to set up the Mirror Realm vs real world and is leaving us in the dark regarding events that have happened in both and also in which world the events have actually taken place. Sneaky author… 😁

  3. Hmmm. Is the author going to pull a mind fricc and say that we’re still in the mirror world thingy? It’s a little predictable so maybe not? It’s all so intriguing

  4. I hope something happens to make me like the male lead better soon. Virtually every other character is more likable and seemingly more rational, especially since it increasingly feels like he’s never actually tried to communicate with another human being in his life and I have a feeling that a conversation or two could have avoided this whole mess.

  5. Um wtf so basically ML didn’t like what he saw in the illusion world & was so angry that MC apparently killed his fake wife? WTF Thats basically like someone killing the author of a game/novel/anime just because they killed off their imaginary waifu 💀💀💀 BRUUUUUH I can’t with ML he’s acting so scummy 🤡

  6. Ohhh… Could it be that after Gong Wei’s death everything became clear somehow and our stupid “ehem ehem” cold and aloof Lord Xu realized everything that had happened?

Is this why he was so angry at Gong Wei ‘lying’ because it ended up causing them this much misunderstanding?

But then again, it seems like Lord Xu was the first one to be at fault, somehow? As Gong Wei doesn’t know how someone who used to be so close and warm to him turn so cold and even say those hurtful words???

Damn. So hard to guess things when you have such an unreliable character.

  7. There’s something wrong work with Xu whatever’s head. Go marry that wife of yours, why’d you have to kill our sweet little baby, huh?

  8. ooh, so gong wei was the ‘wife’ in the illusionary world — and perhaps b/c he brought xu shuangtze out of that world, he was accused of killing zst’s “wife”?

  9. It’s like they’re inside the thousand mirrors illusion since no one has died for the past sixteen years. And Xu still had a wife he should’ve inside the illusion only. My brain is not braining and cannot comprehend this, will read more.
