The Black Saint is My StalkerCh91 - All he had to do

Aside from Leonie, Trevor and Oscar, there was in fact another person that was present inside the hotel room. But the tall dirty-blond-haired man was busy fiddling and cursing at some piece of technology. He was hunched over a blocky machine, hooked up to a tablet that displayed a myriad of runes. Though Han Li couldn’t read them, he had seen enough witch spells in his life to recognize their origins.

But in the end, Han Li had discarded formalities and politeness in favor of closing in on the strange object encased atop the altar. BJ7vbk

The crimson mistletoe was small and appeared rather unassuming. Even the trace amounts of miasma that it emitted were negligible at best. Yet there was something in Han Li’s blood that had him on high alert.

Han Li already knew that this mistletoe was supposed to be; it was their target’s calling card, the single item that connected various demonic activities. But that was not the reason why it summoned his attention. Rather, there was something in his very being that felt incompatible with the mistletoe, for it roused his demon heart and made him itch with annoyance and rage.

Han Li gulped.

The premonition of imminent disaster kindled. When he was but an inch away from the offending object, his blood was boiling beneath his skin. Han Li just knew that Andraste had a hand in this. aJwPU0

His heart sank, mind racing as he reeled from the realization—

Only to be struck with the fact he had no evidence to back his findings. Rather, they weren’t findings at all! Just a mere gut instinct that festered within his demon blood. Han Li licked his lips, knowing that all he had to do was summon his third eye to have a good look at the damned mistletoe to confirm his suspicions.

He wouldn’t dare do such a thing.

So he stepped back from the object and looked around.

His team went about their affairs as if he didn’t exist at all. Alienated and feeling rather displaced, Han Li’s throat went dry.

What now?

Should he just wait and loiter like a fool?

That didn’t feel right either. kQnjKz

Trevor had disappeared into one of the rooms and had since ignored the rest of their existence. Oscar was no better, sitting on the couch and filing down the bladed end of his staff. He had wireless earphones blasting music so loud that Han Li could hear the beat from across the room.

“I do not understand what’s wrong with the reading? Is the concentration level not already high?” Leonie frowned at the numbers displayed in red on the screen, her confusion apparent.

“Ah…” The tall man sighed deeply, sinking down on the ground with his knees pressed up against his chest. “The readings are…high, I suppose…but they’re not high enough for the amount of activity we’ve been seeing. More importantly, the numbers are all… roughly the same no matter the coordinates. How are we supposed to pinpoint a location for a hit tonight?”

“That…is indeed troublesome,” Leonie glared at the machine that could not provide them with any straight answers. “Then there must be some sort of interference. It is unlikely that so many demonic sightings could happen in the city without some sort of miasma fluctuation.”

The man sighed again as he tapped away on the tablet, scribbling runes on a drawing app, only to erase them. “Do you believe that I didn’t…think about that already…? But whatever it is, it’s beyond my abilities. I’m just a hedgewitch at best. There’s only so much I can do.” 6wWKdM

But Leonie soon smiled despite the setbacks and put a hand on the other’s shoulder as a gesture of comfort. “Don’t worry, Valtteri. There are other methods for locating a place of interest. I’ll let you know that I actually—“

Impatient and antsy, Han Li cleared his throat. “Sorry to interrupt but uh…” He stood there stiffly with a constipated look on his face. Gods dammit, why couldn’t he have been just a normal person and waited till Leonie at least finished her sentence? But with the way the conversation was going and how the two chatted as if he wasn’t even present, just behind them like a looming shadow didn’t bode well for Han Li’s patience.

Though startled at first, Leonie luckily did not seem too offended and even smiled at the young vanguard. She rose to her feet after giving Valtteri another pat on the shoulder. “What is it, Han Li? Is there something you want to speak to me about?” With her head slightly tilted, Leonie gave off the impression of being rather girlish despite her age and station.

“Actually, yeah,” Han Li nodded. B7JrxE

Next to Leonie, the man called Valtteri had already turned back to staring at runes on his tablet, as though the two of them didn’t exist at all. But despite his disregard, Han Li still found it a bit uncomfortable to talk to the captain who stood next to him.

Luckily, Leonie had stellar social savvy and could sense his unease. With a comforting smile, she waved at him to follow her. “Come with me.”

She led him to a pristine kitchen area, which was left largely unused aside from the overworked coffee machine and one empty cup of ramen that remained at the countertop. Leonie moved swiftly, tossing the empty paper cup before turning her attention back to Han Li. “What do you wish to talk to me about?”

Han Li schooled his expression and tried not to sound too crazy and look too distraught. “Actually, it’s about that mistletoe.” DhYv5M

Despite his subtle distress, Leonie’s maintained her pleasant bearing, unaffected by Han Li’s mood. “Oh…? What about it?”

“I know…it might sound a bit crazy but I have reason to believe that it might be related to the Darmine Incident.”

Leonie blinked. “Ah, I do suppose that’s why the NUM sent you here.”

It was at that moment that Han Li realized his mistake. He internally facepalmed but it was already too late. There was one crucial detail about this situation that he had ruefully forgotten. The NUM had sent him on that stupid premise of being a bonafide expert on the Darmine Incident (which he wasn’t by the way, in case that wasn’t obvious enough). Bringing up the topic haphazardly might sound like some sort of odd political agenda push from his end…! As if he cared about that sort of thing. But the damage had been done. tVTjlO

Han Li tried as he could to rectify his mistake and explained, “Well, erm, you know how I’m half-demon and all, right? I can tell that…the…” the what? The aura? The scent coming off of the mistletoe? “…the feeling is the same as what I felt back in Darmine.” Yeah no, that wasn’t what he meant to say. The desire to shoot himself in the foot never felt so overpowering before. Please, someone just end him.

Han Li only had himself to curse in this situation. Why did he sound so stupid?

But he gave props to Leonie, whose smile hadn’t faded despite his absurd and idiotic words. In fact, she merely nodded and said with a pleasant tone, “Alright, I’ll keep that in mind.”

Something told Han Li that she wasn’t keeping it in mind at all. Not even a chance. And that she was likely just saying something to save his feelings. Thanks, he supposed. ErxVAp

“For now, you ought to rest. I’m sure that you’re tired from your travels, Han Li. Feel free to use that room to the far right, it’s currently unoccupied. I will call you once we’re ready to set off.”

Leonie gave him the same shoulder pat that she imparted Valtteri with before sauntering off. And while Han Li wanted to ask her to wait, he was also at a loss for words. In the end, he could do nothing but watch as she walked away.

Han Li felt like a whole damn idiot and a half.

Like a dejected child, he ended up doing as he was told and took his luggage to his room. Quietly, he contemplated his current situation and what the best course of action was. While it made sense why Leonie wouldn’t believe him readily, Han Li also needed them to realize the fact this might actually be related to Darmine. The sooner the better. 8eo23m

But on that matter, Han Li would need to find some sort of evidence.

The quickest way, he felt, would be to use his third eye to glimmer the fates and spiritual auras. However, doing so might just make his teammates trust him even less. After all, only higher beings had true third eyes or halos. They might just end up perceiving him as the bigger threat, which, uh, wouldn’t exactly bode well for him.

Privately, he wondered if Graham would have reacted differently. What was Graham like as a team captain? As an S-ranker, he surely would have had the opportunity at some point in his absurdly long life…

Suddenly feeling exhausted, Han Li let out a long exasperated sigh as he reached his quarters. The room itself was pretty small but Han Li didn’t care. Actually, he didn’t even care enough to turn on the lights before flopping down onto the bed. ihfLDn

Fatigue caught up to him fast and furious. While Han Li was counting on rest, he definitely didn’t count on falling asleep before he even hit the mattress.

But that was precisely what happened.

Han Li was out like a light.

So what is Graham like as a team captain? (Also accepting messages from the afterlife) lkm5K7

Anonymous J: Didn’t even remember my name. Alright…I suppose. I mean, I lived so there’s that.

Anonymous MJ: An evil tyrant!! TT__TT slave driver! But I guess things got done pretty quickly and I got to go on vacation early…

Anonymous S: Though I’ve never had the chance to work beneath the Saint of Eternity, I have no doubt that his abilities are not lacking.

Anonymous M: Do you even know the numbers of complaints I get when we put that guy as a team leader? -__- a5mAl0

  1. Han Li believe in yourself, seriously you don’t need Grams on point fighting compatibility and blindly radiant Sword of Clarent … wait where was I going with this. Also +1 to sacrifice remaining teammates

    • TT__TT LMFAOOOO WHERE WERE YOU GOING!?!?!?!
ahem ; w ; he doesn’t need grams but it’d be nice to work with someone you’re actually compatible with on the battlefield right!?

      • Han Li wants to test Clarent strength I’m sure 🍆

Han Li and Grams make a great fighting duo. When Han Li is by himself, it makes me cry that doesn’t believe in himself. Also I want to rip the guts out of these people that treat him badly because he’s half demon

  2. Yo! Valtteri is on the team! If the captain didn’t take Han Li’s warning seriously, she’ll regret it dearly, because he’s right. Han Li needs his rest to deal with this … team. Oh, not all of them will die?

    Thank you for the chapter!!!

      • It’s not disappointment, definitely not , it’s more like I should’ve added “then who has a chance to survive, hmmm?” at the end of that sentence, like weighting their chances of survival. Because for now it’s hard to predict. You said that Valtteri won’t get a chance to find a husband so I guess he’s doomed bt the rest… I guess we’ll see.

Btw, I have a question if we are on the topic of team members: Did Seiji survive the Darmine incident?

  3. Han Li is in dire need of Grams’ lightsaber…. I meant his sword t-the Clarent one… Cause you know for fighting and everything… Imma head out now. I need some sleep. God 💆🏻‍♀️

  4. If you only save Valtteri, I will forgive you for everyone else you’ve murdered xD

but if you dont, I will still be okay as long as Graham suffers a bit.

    thanks for the chapter <3
