The Black Saint is My StalkerCh74 - Baseless rumor perpetuated by paranoia

Han Li won the lunch debate.

It was mostly because they had a lot to sort out and dinner was going to be around the corner and they wanted to make it fun and epic. Or at least that was Simone’s big idea. rPGVhD

“No skiing tonight, but that don’t mean we aren’t going to have fun!” Simone declared loudly, standing on the couch as though she was the king of the hill. “But first, adequate preparations must be made!”

She cleared her throat and pointed at Kevin, “You! Veggies duties.”

“H-Huh!?” Kevin flinched, eyes wide with confusion.

Next, she pointed at Mark, “You! Retrieve the beverages. After you come back, you can help Kevin I guess.” f i5ux

Han Li sighed, sitting down on an armchair opposite her. “Why are you such a tyrant—”

“And you, Li Han!” Simone’s voice pitched even louder, her finger-wagging toward Han Li, “You’re on meat duty with me. And as for Mr. Graham um… Just sit there and be pretty I guess.”

“…” Graham raised a brow, but not even he spoke up against her tyranny. It was up to Han Li.

“What kind of biased decision-making is this supposed to be!?” Han Li facepalmed, “and for the last time it’s Han Li—”

“Alright, chop, chop everyone let’s get to it! The sooner the food gets cooked the sooner we can feast and drink.”

What Simone failed to mention was the fact that she intended to drink throughout the whole cooking process. Kevin was struggling with the potato peeling and ultimately was booted off the job and Han Li had to take over.

Graham would have been a fantastic help, knowing how well he could cook. But somehow, the Saint of Eternity had slipped out of sight, with a vague muttering of business calls he had to make.

Mark had in fact gone out to make grocery rounds but he’d been gone for a bit. ST 4fm

“Don’t go too crazy,” Han Li hissed, his eyes darting towards the cup of wine that she kept refilling. He was coating the chicken in batter, preparing it for the deep fry.

“You’re the one that ought to loosen up,” Simone chirped as she took the pan off the stove. With a quick sip from her glass, she maneuvered around him to get a second glass out from the cupboards.

Han Li paused, frowning at her as she poured a second glass. “You’re a menace,” he scowled. NSuwa6

Simone shrugged. “I’m a fantastic human being.”

But still, he accepted her offering and with a toast, Han Li gulped down the ruby liquor without much elegance. Simone mirrored him and downed her glass with a single savage gulp.

“Pahh! That hits just right!” She grinned, wiping away at her lips. Just as Han Li was tipping his head back to savor the last of his wine, Simone’s hand came down onto his shoulder, causing him to sputter and choke. “Glad you were able to come along.”

Han Li coughed in vain, attempting to get the damned wine out of his windpipe. Through tearing eyes, he looked at Simone with a wry smile. Simone might be intense, her personality as wild as a boar, but she was a homely presence. An anchor of normalcy within all the chaos and wreck that was his life. He hadn’t known her for that long, but Han Li was happy to have met her. ZtXNOk

In truth, he did feel a bit sorry. After all, Simone had been the only one blowing up his phone during his mission in Darmine, and he hadn’t even messaged her when he got back. When he had expected her to descend upon him in a fury and rage about his sudden disappearance and reappearance, she’d done no such thing, merely inviting him out on this trip without questioning him.

“Sorry,” Han Li sighed as he wiped the tears from his eyes. “I never got back to your texts.”

Simone leaned back against the kitchen counter with a lop-sided grin on her lips. “Yeah that was kind of shitty of you, wish you would have said something.”

Han Li frowned, looking down. She was right about that. “My bad.” LvsBEJ

However, Simone just shrugged. “But I get it. We all go through our individual shit. If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine I guess. I’m here to listen if you ever do, that’s cool too.”

“…Thanks.”

Simone smiled. “We’re friends, aren’t we?”

Han Li smiled back. “Yeah.” WlOkSw

Two hours later and the cabin was up in smoke. Mark and Kevin raced to air the place out and the thing that came out of the oven was more like a blackened monstrosity than a pie.

…At least the fried chicken had been salvaged. Oh, and the stew didn’t taste too horrendous.

Fingers were pointed left and right, but ultimately the problem was solved when enough wine and beer had been distributed and a pizza delivery service was called. fpo3Li

Graham was kind enough to help get the fireplace going and they sat around the living room while munching on food and drinking shitty beer.

Han Li automatically moved over on the couch to give room for the Saint of Eternity to sit down next to him. It was weird seeing him with a beer in hand because even in his casual turtleneck and sweatpants, Graham beheld an aura about him that just stood out. It was obvious that he wasn’t just another college brat like the rest of them.

“The truth is, my dad’s actually been trying to get rid of this place,” Mark spoke up, capturing everyone’s attention. He was on the floor, seated on a cushion with Kevin practically nestled in his lap. Han Li didn’t feel even a pang of jealousy with this arrangement, but he was a bit disgruntled by the fact that he and Kevin exchanged no more than two passing words. Even now, he was busy looking down at his phone, instead of engaging with others around him.

In hindsight, Kevin was never that much of a social person, but had he really been this bad before? nHdkmA

“Anyways,” the drawl of Mark’s voice pulled Han Li out of his thoughts. “I keep hearing that this place is haunted or something. That’s why we can’t get rid of it.”

“No way!” Simone surged to her feet immediately, “That can’t be! If it was really haunted wouldn’t your dad have called the Hunter’s Association already?” Her voice was shrill and high, visibly on edge.

Han Li shared a look with Graham, who merely shrugged and shook his head. Neither of them has felt anything particular about the cabin. And while Han Li’s demonic power was currently sealed, his sixth sense was still sharper than most people. A particular sly or powerful spirit might be able to hide from his perception but it was unlikely.

“They put you on a waiting list,” Mark explained, “if you don’t have any evidence of anything ‘substantial’ happening it just means that you’ll be waiting indefinitely for an investigation.” He even used air-quotations for added effect. 8ufK6d

Simone rolled her eyes, plopping back down into the armchair she was seated in, “Doesn’t that just mean you don’t have any evidence? I think your dad’s just creating some weirdass rumors.”

“That might not be the case,” Graham’s voice cut through the mayhem. Though he was calm and spoke lightly, he commanded a tone that summoned everyone’s attention. Even Kevin put down his phone to listen. “Just because the cabin itself isn’t haunted, it does not mean that there isn’t something going on around the vicinity.”

Mark’s lips pulled up into a grin, he leaned in with interest. “You seem to know a lot, huh?”

“I am merely pointing out a possibility,” Graham shrugged, “it could very well just be a baseless rumor perpetuated by paranoia and ignorance.” His eyes trailed over to Han Li with a blank unreadable expression. PvDdV0

Han Li scrunched up his nose. Was there something on his face, or was this Graham’s way of telling him to add to the conversation? Feeling awkward, he was keenly aware of the fact that the two of them were hunters but the others weren’t even aware of the fact. It wasn’t some sort of secret that Han Li meant to keep from his friends but…somehow, he landed himself in this situation. Scratching at his chin, Han Li said, “Yeah well, who even knows? You haven’t even told us why your dad seems to think this place is haunted.”

It was at this point that Kevin turned his attention back to his phone. Han Li tried to hold back his disapproving frown. Luckily, Mark had a bit more tack and responded. “Huh? Didn’t I mention that earlier?”

“You didn’t!” Simone slammed down her beer can on the floor with a bit too much force. “Kind of wish you told us before dragging us here.”

“Wow now, I didn’t do any dragging, Donnie.” Mark raised his hands up defensively. “I just offered it up as a suggestion! It was either here or some bed lice-infested joint in the ski resort. Us poor college students wouldn’t be able to afford anything better.” For some reason, his eyes purposely veered in Graham’s direction when he said such words, as though in attempts to single him out. YMc1dg

The Saint of Eternity said nothing, only taking another sip of his beer.

Thus, Simone kept bickering, “Bed lice-infested is better than ghost-infested. I fucking hate ghosts! Let me tell you about the time I was a kid…”

She got up and swung her arms around in dramatic gestures. It was only after it was dark and Simone passed out, Mark and Kevin having retired that Han Li realized that Mark never told them about the rumors!

Author: TT u TT;;; i-i hope you enjoy the slice of life dumbness and sorry if the story is super slow;;; originally I had planned this book to be about 200k words but uh…I…don’t think that’ll be happening… so u-um I hope you’re in for the long ride! (And don’t worry, I’ll definitely finish! I’ve finished longer books before!!) eSp7c1

  1. OK, but what about the haunting? Is this cabin haunted or not? And I don’t like this Mark guy.

    Thank you for the chapter!!!

P.S. Long novels are good, just don’t drag it too much, please.

    • I guess we’ll see!! LOL

thank you for reading <3 <3

WEEPS w-what’s “too much”? TT w TT; I think the longest book I’ve written is 500k words b-but I’m trying to make this one shorter…!!

      • I think that “too much” isn’t really about the length but more about the pace of the story.
You can take as an example the web novel Overgeared. It is approaching the 1500 chapters, but it’s still a pleasure to read.
There are novels that are only a few hundred chapters long but feel like a chore to read.
The important thing is to not voluntarily drag the story. I’m talking about things like misunderstanding that don’t add anything to the plot (and often drag on 20 to 30 chapters). Something else that is terribly annoying is when a character tries to say something but is either ignored or there is something that interrupts him before he can finish, in those cases I’m always like : What a FUCKING convenient coincidence RIGHT ?! Make me want to strangle the author.
It’s important to be sure that your story doesn’t stagnate but always moves forward and toward something even if just a bit.
Actually, reading to this point I’m not worried, until now it’s really good and pleasant to read.
P.S. : for God’s and my sanity’s sake please don’t make us wait until the 200th chapter to finally see some feelings between our guys. A lot of stories are like that and they ALWAYS become such a chore to read, honestly it spoils the process of reading and I can’t enjoy the story.
I’d say that If past chapter 150 there still is nothing it gets worrying.
Aside from that : Love on you Val, o great author of this great story
        • Oh wow 1500 chapters…! That author must be working so hard T___T I’m dying already and I haven’t reached 100 yet…!
Thank you for reading and letting me know!! I will do my best to not let the story stagnate weeps;; (I also want to reach the ending T_T I just have so much character development and stuff I want to explore RREEEEE)
Wait, which book is making you wait till chapter 200+ for there to be something between the CP!?!?!?
          U-Um I’m writing slow burn but the purpose is for there to be a burn along with the slow T w T;; so the progress might be slow but it’s still supposed to be there…!! I hope @ w @;;
    • LOL! He’s always been this way hahaha, but it just hasn’t been super obvious. Han Li either romanticized his personality, or he’s just been exceptionally lowkey with his self-centeredness i guess!?

      WeEPS I have friend gatherings that go down like this!?!? Sure there are some annoying and awkward people around but you can still chill…! ; w ;

  2. I really enjoy these slice of life moments!!! They are really nice chill moments (before the shit inevitably hits the fan).

  3. frowns and squints eyes

    Curiosity is killing THIS cat

    I don’t think I like this guy
