Ikr Bei Shitian, the one obsessed with revenge was actually the sensible one here. Even Leng Jixue was like a father’s sins has to be paid by the child…(i know this can’t be helped since its the mindset of those times) and BST was like nope, let the ppl responsible paid for it. I really want to think that XL did come back, but was too late. Even if he came later, YCY would never have known.
My guess he managed to save YCY was wrong, so I’m still wondering whether the soul plate is XL or one of YCY’s souls. But, bearing in mind that YCY was split into five and sealed, if one of the pieces were missing, the array would have problems. Thus it’s still more likely that it’s XL. 🤔
Whilst I do understand the feelings of the city lord at the time, I still think it was entirely his fault. As someone who dabbles in politics, how could he not know the kind of fate he’d suffer when he made that prophecy known to everyone?! As a city lord and father, he failed miserably. Even if there was no Yan family, the Xuan could have just done the same if they were ruthless. All readers know that what rulers hate the most is these types of ‘prophecies’ – if someone meets x conditions, they’re the destined empress. Bc that means that the Emperor can’t even choose his own empress. Even if the Emperor didn’t have someone else lined up for the role, the fact that someone dared to say this might mean they’re trying to use the citizens to coerce him, and that that person is not taking their authority into consideration
