Sorry for the slight delay, it’s been a rather busy and sad week for me… But I hope you enjoy the chapter! There’s a bit of gore in this one today, but it’s quite short >< MrSRp1

Shan Ziwei felt like he didn’t have enough of two specific pills to deal with host: quick-acting heart reliever and one that’d let him do-over everything.

Okay, he accepted that a Hearts restoration card was needed, but there were so many cards that could restore Hearts SP, why did it have to be “Adoration”!? Why did it have to be the “Adoration” card that required being all touchy-feely!?!?!

——I’ll fucking cry (lose all restaint) just you watch!!!

Luckily host didn’t ask for Shan Ziwei to put out immediately. The black-haired young man put away his toybox and began to search the corridor properly. HmGwlT

Shan Ziwei watched as host walked up to where the white silhouette had dropped the noh mask and bent down to pick it up.

Something tugged at Shan Ziwei’s mind. They had been ambushed and completely taken unawares by the white silhouette just now, but looking back now, there were many details he could glean from the encounter. The reason that it was so white, was because it wore white all over its body. Not only were its pants and top white, even the gloves it had on were white. The “person’s” entire body was covered entirely. Its form was relatively flat, and clearly masculine. In addition, its build was rather small. So it was either a rather short young man or a teenager who wasn’t fully grown up yet.

Shan Ziwei approached host as he contemplated this, looking over the noh mask with the black-haired young man. The noh mask was even creepier up close, white face, red lips, its  dark hollow eye sockets seeming to devour all light like a yawning abyss.

Shan Ziwei felt goosebumps rise on his skin as he watched host flip the mask over and back, again and again, scrutinising it. Though the noh mask was eerie, Shan Ziwei didn’t find anything that was worth scrutinising about it. It was like it was just a normal, scary mask. The hypersexual was starting to miss the time when he could use Scenario Cards. Without “Three of Clubs – Investigate” he could only rely on his observational skills and experience to find clues.

Shan Ziwei guiltily decided to call on the help of the experienced god-level player beside him. “Is there anything special about this noh mask?”

Host shook his head, and Shan Ziwei hazarded a guess, “It might be used elsewhere?” Like hanging it somewhere to activate a hidden mechanism or something.

The black-haired young man fell silent for a moment before suddenly saying, “This is a mask.”

Like Shan Ziwei expected, host wasn’t in the best state after putting on the noh mask. It was like he had frozen, his body stiff and completely motionless.

“Hey, hey! Host! Host…”

There was no response. Shan Ziwei eyed host’s stiff form before gritting his teeth and stepping forwards, reaching out to pat the other’s shoulder. XtYiFK

The moment before his hand touched the other’s shoulder, host dodged out of the way. Seeing the black-haired young man take the mask off emotionlessly, Shan Ziwei breathed a sigh of relief.

“What happened just now?”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

All host did in response was hold the mask out to him. “Put it on. Look.”

Shan Ziwei unhesitatingly followed host’s directions. He took the noh mask. It was cold, like touching ice, and when he placed it upon his face, that layer of cold seemed to almost freeze his breath. WgrIp0

Soon, Shan Ziwei realised what host meant by “look”.

Through the eyes of the noh mask, Shan Ziwei saw a whole different world. He was still in the hallway of Manda Mansion’s second floor, though his position had changed. Before, he was at the entrance of the corridor, whereas now he was in the middle. Apart from the change in position, his viewpoint had also changed, as if his body had shrunk to when he was a teenager. His height had been reduced by about a third.

Then, his “body” began to move.

The reason there were quotations there was because Shan Ziwei couldn’t feel any control over this body. He wasn’t moving of his own volition. More accurately, it was like his soul had left his body and instead fled into the body of a child, experiencing the world with this child. U6X31I

Shan Ziwei panicked for just a moment before his experience with horror games told him what was happening.

This was…a flashback?

Speaking of horror game cliches, game character flashbacks were a staple that helped players understand the background and plot of the game. The difference was that in the past, Shan Ziwei had only ever watched the show through a computer screen, but now, this fully-immersive game let him get a personal first-hand experience.

Shan Ziwei immersed himself in the sensations and scene with curiosity. The corridor in front of him was brightly lit. “He” slowly made his way to the staircase at the end of the corridor, almost pausing with every step he took. It was slow enough that Shan Ziwei could catch “his own” silhouette reflecting off the vases he passed by – a boy in white, wearing a noh mask. Cf07Lh

Shan Ziwei was surprised: wasn’t this the white silhouette they had seen?

That was when a series of footsteps came from below, slowly growing closer. Clearly, someone was ascending the stairs. The unhurried footsteps seemed to startle “him” and “he” paused before sprinting the last few steps to the entrance of the stairway.

“He” had only just arrived at the top when he almost crashed into a beautiful older lady. The lady looked to be around forty years old. No matter if it were her well-maintained skin, or her expensive clothes, they all spoke of a powerful background.

Seeing “him”, a flash of some emotion flickered across the lady’s face. Shan Ziwei’s heart trembled. If it were someone else, they might’ve mistaken that flicker for shock and terror – after all, it was normal for anyone who saw this mask to react with fright – but only Shan Ziwei could see the deep conflict of intense hatred and love under it. How familiar…

The lady quickly wiped her face of those emotions, giving a doting smile. “My baby, how come you came outside?”

“He” didn’t speak.

The lady reached out, seeming to want to pat “his”head. “Do you want anything? Just tell mommy, mommy will buy it for you, okay?” Ru5VsJ

“He” reached out, and forcefully shoved “mommy”.

Her expression was frozen in shock. Shan Ziwei watched all of this happen in disbelief. The tall, steep stairs were behind “mommy”. Shan Ziwei had gone up them just now, so he knew that they were far steeper than normal stairs. Shan Ziwei subconsciously went to pull the other back, but his unresponsive body told him that this was just a memory of what had already happened long ago. He couldn’t change anything. He could only watch as “mommy” fell back like a dying swan. Her hands waved in the air, unable to find something to hold onto, and just happening to hit “his” face.

Due to the mask, “he” didn’t feel any pain. But his mask was knocked askew, hanging lopsidedly on his face.

Thud, thud, thud... xMyINL

Shan Ziwei’s view was obscured by the lopsided mask, only being able to hear the heavily sounds of collision after collision, so oppressive he could barely breathe. “He” straightened the wonky mask, looking down from a high at the bottom of the staircase.

The lady’s twisted body lay in the corner below, clearly having hit the wall opposite after rolling down the stairs. Her bones were broken in multiple places, and there were patches of blood. For a moment, Shan Ziwei thought she had died, yet she still managed to weakly open her bloodied eyes, trembling. Even though he wasn’t the perpetrator, Shan Ziwei subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief. Thank god, “mommy” wasn’t dead.

“Mommy” seemed to be stunned for a while before she turned her head, the only part of her body that could still move, slowly, slowly looking up towards the top of the stairs. Yet she never managed to see the person she was looking for. Shan Ziwei hadn’t even fully let out his sigh of relief when he tensed, staring at the wall “mommy” was sprawled against in terror. There was a metal axe and hammer that hung, criss-crossed, on that wall.

Everything seemed to go into slow motion. Perhaps because of the impact against the wall just now, or maybe because it had been too long since someone had conducted any maintenance, but he saw that heavy metal hammer slowly begin to slip, brought down by gravity towards the lady’s head…and then fall straight down. Crack.
