As the dust settled, the monster’s immense size and terrifying appearance grew clearer. It looked like an enormous mutated plant that had grown out of the hospital building. The red tinged white core looked like blood-stained lychee flesh. Two loom shuttle shaped tentacles grew out from the bottom, thick and powerful like the petals of a succulent with bulging purple-black veins that had the hearts of those who saw them jumping with fright. MPRTmW

Shan Ziwei’s chin knocked against the firm “lychee flesh”. He could see that apart from Sha Po Lang who was a familiar face, there were four others wearing camouflage outfits and tactical vests on the grassy area below. Their face shields hid their faces, but from their figures, there seemed to be three guys and one girl.

The girl was, naturally, Mortal Realm. As for the three other guys, one was tall and built, another was short and lanky, and there was one who wasn’t very tall, short, small or big with an average build. From the voices before, Spring and Autumn seemed strong and healthy, with a powerful voice. He was probably the tall and well-built man who had a powerful aura about him. Sky’s Edge sounded young. He was probably the small, lanky kid. Shan Ziwei’s gaze finally landed on the guy with an average build. This was… the fourth supporting player?

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Spring and Autumn hadn’t mentioned the person’s name and nor had they spoken. If Shan Ziwei hadn’t seen them personally, then he would’ve probably still thought that only three new players had come.

Currently, one side was up high and the other was down low, staring at each other. In the end, it was Sha Po Lang who broke the deadlock. JQkcyT

“Shanzi——” Sha Po Lang called out, waving her hands. “You alright?”

Shan Ziwei stayed silent. He wasn’t sure if being the monster’s head accessory counted as being alright or not. The white-haired young man struggled to turn his head, glancing behind him. Though his angle was limited, he could already see the “weapon” being used against him from his peripheral vision: a terrifyingly large tentacle rising into the sky, with a small section at the top curving down bonelessly and the wash basin sized tip against his back. It was a leisurely pose, like someone who casually put their hand on their hat to prevent it from being blown away.

Shan · hat · Ziwei: “S-save me…”

Unfortunately, even his most loyal companion Sha Po Lang didn’t know where to start to get him out of this situation. She wasn’t one for coming up with plans, so she turned her head and looked at Spring and Autumn, who seemed really strong.

“What do we do?”

Mortal Realm glared at Sha Po Lang, but any force it had was completely blunted by the face shield. Spring and Autumn calmly asked, “That’s Shanzi? He seems very intimate with the monster.”

“Really?” Sha Po Lang wondered aloud, “Maybe it’s ‘cause they got trapped together in that small gap, so they bonded over their common tragic situation?”

Due to being on the monster’s head so far up in the air, Shan Ziwei couldn’t hear what Sha Po Lang and the others were saying and was only able to stare as they chatted happily amongst themselves, counting heads in loneliness. Soon enough, however, Shan Ziwei no longer had the energy to count heads. Sha Po Lang and co. heard a scream echo from above. pyBVt4

“Holy f…!”

The word “fuck” only had its first letter spoken before it cut off suddenly. Everyone hurriedly looked up just in time to see the monster put down the tentacle it had been using to hold its “hat” in place.

The monster was no longer afraid of its hat being blown away, because it had already “sewn” its hat onto its head using its blood lines.

A certain hypersexual was tightly bound to the top of the monster’s core with blood lines. Seeing them, not only did Shan Ziwei reflexively close his mouth, Sha Po Lang also reflexively raised her gun and shot. “Bang!” lq3nEL

Before the monster put its tentacle down fully, it raised it again, curling it carefully around Shan Ziwei and blocking the bullet. This act was equal to disturbing the wasp’s nest. The monster had ignored the ants below on the ground up until now, but now it was angry. It curled up its other tentacle and flung it down at the people on the grassy area like a mountain coming down.

Everyone paled upon seeing the gigantic tentacle that blotted out the sky plummeting towards them. In their surprise, they didn’t have the time to get out of range. Spring and Autumn was the first to act. He took out a stone statue and quickly drew a symbol on it before throwing it upwards.

The stone statue grew rapidly in the air. It had just grown into a three-meter-tall stone giant, not even having time to stretch out its arms and legs, when the massive tentacle arrived with a gale of wind.

The stone giant had been smacked into dust by the tentacle. Luckily everyone had managed to take the opportunity to get out of the way by then, running into another building in the hospital. The bloody red tentacle wanted to pursue them, but despite having grown thicker, it hadn’t gotten that much longer, so it could only slap the ground in annoyance, bringing up clouds of dust.

Even though they couldn’t see each other’s faces through the face shields, they could all tell how they had all paled. As the leader, Spring and Autumn stepped forward to take charge and calm them. BypuH3

“There’s no need to be afraid.” Spring and Autumn said, “While that rook-level monster is powerful, it’s also a stationary boss that can’t move.”

The clouds of dust outside was a clear indicator that the monster’s tentacles weren’t long enough to reach them. This was a comfort to the group of people who had almost been turned into pancakes just now – all except Sky’s Edge.

“B-boss Spring, I just used ‘Omniscient Eye’ to check.” Sky’s Edge’s voice trembled, glancing at the monster who had its two tentacles lying there lazily after it vented its annoyance. He took a deep breath and quickly delivered the terrible news, “The monster’s tentacles have invincibility and only its core will take damage and its immune to all ranged attacks!”

A dead silence descended in the lobby. Yet that was when they suddenly heard a sound. TrdB u

“Hey!”

Having already been wound up tight as bowstrings, the players all startled, pulling out their weapons in synchrony and pointing them to the right. The bald guy from the start, having become one with the darkness, walked out of the shadows opposite them.

“Why are you in here!?” Sha Po Lang blurted out.

“You guys caused such a huge commotion. Why can’t I be in here?” 5WyPJV

With everyone’s weapons pointed at him, the bald black guy could only raise his hands with a troubled expression.

“Alright. Actually, there’s no more ‘inside’ and ‘outside’.”

Upon receiving looks of confusion, he pointed at the sky, motioning for everyone to look up.

A few white clouds drifted across the beautiful blue sky. It seemed perfectly normal. Today was a bright, sunny day. No one would expect that this would be humanity’s last. l82u0A

Spring and Autumn was the first to react. “The green isolation barrier is gone.”

“Bingo.” The bald man looked at Spring and Autumn approvingly. “That thing can’t trap the monster no more, so we took it down. There’ll be armed forces coming to support you in this assault soon.”

“Why isn’t it us supporting them in this assault?” Sha Po Lang asked.

“Sure. They’ll be under your command then.” 2AdpK4

Sha Po Lang, Spring and Autumn and the others didn’t even have the time to be happy when the system gave them a new scenario.

[Scenario 3/6: You’re grateful for the help given by the government and will make sure they don’t suffer any losses.]

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

… Grateful my ass! You sure you sent help, not some rich young masters?!

The gift they had gotten was just turned into trash, yet the man who had given them this trash stood there, continuing to kick them while they were down. F1Ba73

“The armed forces will be here in just a moment. Don’t let that monster evolve again. If it does, it’s over for humanity. Good luck, everyone!”

Before the players could flip him the bird, the guy turned all the way around and merged with the shadows, smoothly making his exit.

This wasn’t just depressing for Sha Po Lang and the others; it was even more depressing for Shan Ziwei experiencing this weird bondage play. He looked at Scenario 6 which had suddenly appeared in confusion. He had no idea what, exactly, it meant, but his experiences with being abused by the system told him it was nothing good.

Five minutes passed quickly and Scenario 6 activated, but Sha Po Lang and the others didn’t act. Shan Ziwei anxiously waited for around half an hour, during which he watched as the monster used blood lines inside its core to make a commemorative picture of their time trapped in the gap between the rocks together for him (here, thousands of words on a certain hypersexual’s mental activities was omitted). Then, a figure slowly walked out of the opposite building. It was Spring and Autumn. dbmw90

Physically and mentally tormented, it was like Shan Ziwei had finally seen a friend, eyes filled with tears of hope and relief as he watched Spring and Autumn take one step, two steps on the grass. Yet, when he was about to take his third step, he stopped abruptly. He stood there, on the edge of the grassy area calmly and steadily, head raised as he watched the monster retreat its poised tentacles.

Shan Ziwei’s heartbeat sped up.

Being able to rapidly figure out a boss’ aggro and attack range was a basic requirement for a good MT.

Spring and Autumn had clearly accomplished that. He had accurately stopped on the very edge of the attack range of the monster’s tentacles before whipping out several scenario cards. Blue spots of light surrounded Spring and Autumn, first forming into a heavenly black-gold suit of armour, then gathering in his hands, transforming into a golden spear and a massive shield engraved with a Chinese Jiao Long. The sight had Shan Ziwei’s eyes red with envy. 1Thvy6

Look at that awesome set of equipment! As expected, Spring and Autumn was definitely an MT!

This was the first MT Shan Ziwei had seen in this game so far, so he naturally had to observe and learn what he could. The gaze he directed at Spring and Autumn was like that of a baby who saw their mother coming to feed them.

For the first time, Shan Ziwei felt thankful to the monster putting him here. This was a great position. He could clearly see Spring and Autumn below slowly bow his body and then yell, charging forward.

“HAAAH!” BPH2sw

The monster didn’t show any mercy for the rat that entered its territory. Its two tentacles formed into a spiral and shot towards Spring and Autumn.

Kaboom——

The collision between the tentacles and the shield made a thunderous noise, and Spring and Autumn’s feet sunk into the earth, creating a deep path in the rocky ground as the tentacle pushed him back, impacting his shield. A white halo of light lit up around him again and again. Clearly, someone was healing him. Even though Spring and Autumn looked like he was on the verge of collapse, blood leaking from his armour, he still managed to take one of the monster’s tentacles.

Watching this, Shan Ziwei felt like his breath would stop. Yet, the monster didn’t have just one tentacle. Just as its other tentacle was about to flatten Spring and Autumn, the other once again gave a yell, his shield still raised. fuQIUM

“ATTACK!!!”

Bang, bang, bang…

Chrysanthemum Garden.

The sound of gunfire rang out continuously, yet the ones who were shooting knew that this rook-level monster was immune to all ranged attacks, thus their target wasn’t the monster.

The monster was immune, but Shan Ziwei wasn’t. NrfUh4

When the first bullet pierced his shoulder, Shan Ziwei didn’t even manage to immediately register what the burning pain meant. He just felt pain and subconsciously attempted to roll out of the way to escape the bullets that would torment him.

Shan Ziwei failed to roll over. He was still bound atop the monster by the blood lines. In that short moment, another two bullets pierced his body. That was when two flashes of white light descended on Shan Ziwei, healing the damage he had taken and taking away the pain.

It was Purify and Comfort.

This feeling of being healed was way too familiar. Shan Ziwei reflexively looked down, just in time to see Spring and Autumn raise his head in confusion to look at the fourth floor. J pPkI

“The World?”

In one of the fourth-floor windows, that unknown player stood there silently, raising his hand to continue healing Spring and Autumn.

So that player was called “The World”. Shan Ziwei subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief at not hearing that familiar English name. After this tangent, Shan Ziwei fully snapped back to reality. He didn’t give himself time to be angry, trying to figure out a way to release his bonds using the approaching bullets.

Before he could figure out a method, the blood lines released him of their own volition. Shan Ziwei paused in surprise before he raised his head as a shadow enveloped him and he was surrounded by fleshy walls on all sides. The monster didn’t even bother to continue dealing with Spring and Autumn, quickly retreating a tentacle to protect Shan Ziwei. sezEQO

“Wow, it really worked.”

Mortal Realm mumbled, reloading her emptied gun. Her admiration for Spring and Autumn grew. Originally, she had thought him crazy upon hearing his plan, but now she was amazed. That monster really did react exactly as Spring and Autumn expected.

“Of course. Boss Spring and Autumn has always been brilliant.”

Sky’s Edge was at one side, face filled with pride. He got up and walked towards the other room, cracking his fists. “Now, it’s my turn.” d2mWP3

Shan Ziwei felt extremely conflicted with the tentacle wrapped around him. The players were attacking him, but the monster was protecting him. That was when he heard a strange noise and perked up his ears, trying to figure out what it was. Amidst the sound of repeated gunshots, Shan Ziwei heard something that sounded like earth being shifted about, sticky and heavy.

Sky’s Edge stood in front of the fourth-floor window. In the room behind him shone a complex magic array. Outside, a stone bridge formed in midair, stretching from the building to the other, half destroyed building. It wouldn’t take long to fully connect the fourth floors of the two buildings. The monster disliked that bridge that was extending towards its core from below. It was about to crush it with its tentacle, but then realized it couldn’t move the tentacle anymore.

The shield in Spring and Autumn’s hand glowed with a golden light. The Jiao Long on the shield had come to life with the golden light and wrapped itself around the massive tentacle again and again. The monster wouldn’t be able to get its tentacle free for a while, and the other was needed to shield Shan Ziwei from the bullets, so even when the stone bridge was fully formed and several tens of people charged across it, swords raised, the monster was still stuck.

“Dragon blood, High-Level Earth Stones, Mithril Thread… Boss Spring even used his Dragon-Subduing Shield, Universal Essence Armour and Golden Spear,” Sky’s Edge at the front of the group listed off each item, his heart bleeding. He snarled at the monster in front of him, “We’ll definitely kill this monster; we’ve used so much good stuff on it!” 21Wvtu

Translator's Note

蛟龙 Jiao Long or just 蛟 Jiao is a creature from Chinese myths. It’s basically a weaker form of a true Chinese Dragon (真龙 True Long), able to whip up storms and floods. Usually depicted and described as a hornless Long (Chinese dragon) or a snake with four legs, the Jiao is a water creature (a category that includes fish, snakes, etc.) with dragon blood, but less pure or weaker than that of a dragon. The Jiao is the last step to ascending or evolving into a True Long. Once it survives and completes its tribulation, it can ascend and become a true Long.

  1. All the monster wants is to love and be loved by Shan Ziwei… injustice!

    Thanks for the chapter! 💕

  2. I mean, does the monster REALLY needs to die? There’s not a scenario specifying that the monster needs to die. Just “protect the people” types of scenarios. Killing does seem to be easier, but that’s too easy for our MC XD [thank you for the chapter!]

  3. I wonder if “The World” is another one of Gaia’s avatars. That is, I’ve been kinda of assuming that various players and monsters already were. I could be completely wrong.

  4. I think I might have forgotten, but what familiar English name was SZW glad to not hear? It must be from that one guy (entity?, AI?) that was yandere for him before he “died”, no?
