[Scenario 9: You loathe rapists and will kill all rapists you encounter. (00:10:00)] kZyn9T

Shan Ziwei subconsciously looked around for Rice Lover. He could feel his heart beating faster and faster and his body shuddering uncontrollably. Ever since they met Siren, the system had been silent with the scenarios, but now it appeared that it intended to make them kill each other. Shan Ziwei didn’t know if it was only him who had received a scenario or if everyone had. The four of them were spread out across the massive garage. Shan Ziwei couldn’t see what was going on with any of the others.

“Ah!”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Shan Ziwei’s heart leapt into his throat as he heard Rice Lover cry out in surprise, rushing over to the source of the sound on instinct.

After weaving around several differently sized containers, Shan Ziwei found Rice Lover in a sequestered corner. It seemed that he was the last one to arrive. Unparalleled Dragon King and host were standing beside Rice Lover already. Shan Ziwei slowed down as he approached, hesitating. He discretely swept his gaze over the males. Neither of them seemed out of the ordinary; he couldn’t tell if they had been given the extra Scenario 9 or not. ocqFPu

Finally, Shan Ziwei’s gaze landed on Rice Lover. The girl’s face was red with excitement. Seeing him look towards her, she pointed at the bottles of petrol next to her, happily announcing, “I’ve found petrol!”

Shan Ziwei couldn’t decide if he was relieved or not. He glanced at Scenario 9. There were nine minutes remaining.

Everything was fine, he told himself. They had already found gas for the car. So long as they escaped within ten minutes, then they wouldn’t have to obey Scenario 9 anymore.

“Let’s hurry and take the gas over. Something is more likely to go wrong if we delay.” Shan Ziwei rushed them.

eK9PwD

“Alright!”

Rice Lover picked up a bottle, seeming to aim to put it into something, but suddenly paused, stunned.

“This is a special item. It can’t be put into the Toybox.”

Upon hearing Rice Lover’s words, Shan Ziwei took a deep breath, swallowing the “holy fuck” that tried to creep out of his throat. This damn game. It always dragged things out when they didn’t have the time to spare. Being unable to put the bottles in their Toybox meant that they would have to bring the bottles to the armoured car by hand. Worst of all, the bottles were really small. Considering the size of the armoured car, they would need all the bottles of gas to be able to even use it. BM4kx0

Twenty bottles meant that the four of them would have to make three trips in total. Shan Ziwei didn’t want to waste any more time, quickly summoning his mirror images.

“Take two and come with me!”

Shan Ziwei said before rushing back to the car with a bottle in each hand. There was quite a distance between the bottles and the armoured car. Shan Ziwei was practically counting each second. Another half a minute had passed when he arrived. He turned his head to see host following with two bottles and behind him was Unparalleled Dragon King and Rice Lover.

“I’ll refuel the car; you guys go grab more!” Uly1jF

Host nodded, putting down the bottles without any hesitation and rushing back. Unparalleled Dragon King mumbled something in displeasure before heading back with Rice Lover as well. Shan Ziwei stared at the red-haired young man’s leisurely retreating form anxiously. If it wasn’t for the fact that he was out of MP, then he’d definitely be running in the lead.

However, this had Shan Ziwei feeling relieved. It didn’t seem that Unparalleled Dragon King and the others had received the Sword of Damocles-like Scenario 9. Shan Ziwei wondered if he hadn’t washed his hands or something before entering the game to receive this special treatment from the system. These Scenarios were all trying to kill him.

8:00, 7:50, 7:40, 7:30…

Amidst Shan Ziwei’s mental summoning, host and the other two returned. Currently, there were just over seven minutes until Scenario 9 activated. xCumy6

“I-I only have 8 MP left…”

Rice Lover said, panting. Everyone started out with 100 MP, and the two back and forth journeys were enough to deplete their MP. Since Shan Ziwei had remained in place refuelling the car, his MP had recovered some. It wasn’t enough to finish the entire journey running, but it was better than what everyone else had.

“I’ll go.”

“Hey! I’ll go with you!” Unparalleled Dragon King called out to Shan Ziwei who was about to leave. y6 4Qj

“Great! Let’s go together!” wenXf5

Shan Ziwei was truly grateful and happy for the help. His mirror images only had half his MP. Even if they had recovered some, they were only in slightly better shape than Rice Lover. There was no way they’d be able to continue. Now that Unparalleled Dragon King had filled in the gap, they would be able to get the last four bottles in one go.

Thus, Shan Ziwei left his mirror images behind and headed to where the bottles of gas were with Unparalleled Dragon King. On the way over, Shan Ziwei thought to himself, his trip would take them approximately two minutes. With that, they’d have another five minutes remaining – five minutes was more than enough for them to make their way out of the prison in their car.

At the thought that they could finish the chessboard, completely bypassing Scenario 9, Shan Ziwei’s spirits rose. After being screwed over by the system so many times, he could finally rebel for once.

The gas bottles were in sight. Shan Ziwei rushed over and bent down to grab them when pain exploded in his back. 9yimtk

What little remained of his Hearts SP became completely corrupted.

“You…!”

Shan Ziwei turned around to face Unparalleled Dragon King, his attacker, in shock and anger, but then the red-haired young man lunged at him, colliding with him and pinning him down against the ground so that he was unable to move.

Unparalleled Dragon King was afraid Shan Ziwei would yell and draw the attention of the other two, so he covered Shan Ziwei’s mouth tightly with his hand. He had Shan Ziwei completely restrained, using his own weight to pin down the other’s hands, preventing the other from throwing him off. This put them very close to each other, to the point where he could see the disbelief, rage and the hint of indecipherable panic in the white-haired young man’s dark eyes. m KPvh

For some reason, Unparalleled Dragon King felt like he had been bewitched by the sliver of panic. That panic magnified his strength and the other young man’s weakness, satisfying his vanity and ego in a way it had never been satisfied before.

“Don’t blame me. If you want to blame someone, blame the system for giving me a ‘kill all murders’ scenario.”

Shan Ziwei stared blankly for a moment before he desperately tried to say something. Unfortunately, his mouth was covered so he could only make muffled noises.

Unparalleled Dragon King misunderstood what Shan Ziwei was trying to say and gave him a smug smile. GXOHK9

“You want to say the scenario hasn’t activated yet, right? That’s why I say you’re a noob. As your superior, I’ll be kind and teach you a lesson. This is a secret that very few players know.” Unparalleled Dragon King acted as if he was bestowing some great honour upon Shan Ziwei. “RPG, Role Playing, this game is all about role play. The better you play your role, the more scenarios you achieve and adhere to, the higher your score for that chessboard. Even for scenarios that have yet to activate.”

The white-haired young man’s eyes widened, appearing to grow even more furious. Red crept up his pale skin, and his gaze turned heated and sticky. Unparalleled Dragon King turned his head to the side, inexplicably afraid to meet that gaze. Yet even though he didn’t dare look, Unparalleled Dragon King could still feel that something was off because the two of them were tightly pressed against one another without a single gap between them; he could feel the other’s chest heaving and his body growing hotter. Even the hand that was placed over the other’s mouth felt heated breath washing over it, going from his palm all the way into his heart. It was so strange that he leapt up, backing away rapidly.

“Haah…”

As soon as the hand let go, Shan Ziwei panted, gulping in air and taking deep breaths. Unparalleled Dragon King could hear the sensuality and it made his mind blank. He cursed himself and hurriedly closed one eye to check Shan Ziwei’s Hearts SP. The results of his investigative skill told him that Shan Ziwei’s corrupted Hearts SP only had 1 percent remaining. Unparalleled Dragon King knew that Shan Ziwei was a newbie, so he definitely didn’t have any potions that could purify spiritual corruption. That meant that in one second, it would be over for the white-haired young man. His tightened heart fell; he didn’t know if it was from relief or disappointment. COPp6z

Yet, a single second could change a lot of things. For example, someone could say something, or use a skill.

“Purify.”

Unparalleled Dragon King could only watch as that one remaining percent of Shan Ziwei’s Hearts SP returned to its healthy red colour again, no longer decreasing. Clearly, someone had used a healing skill on Shan Ziwei. Unparalleled Dragon King was about to turn his head and curse out whoever dared interrupt him when he felt pain erupt in his neck – this time, it was his turn to be attacked from behind.

Unparalleled Dragon King stumbled forwards quickly, hurriedly turning to view the newcomer. q1pLid

“… You!?”

At first, when he saw those golden eyes, Unparalleled Dragon King didn’t immediately register the other’s identity. It wasn’t until he noticed that handsome face he hated, that his voice suddenly went up a pitch as he cried, “You know how to heal – “

Host’s cross-shaped dagger silenced Unparalleled Dragon King’s voice. Unparalleled Dragon King’s mind went blank with fear. He grabbed at his own neck dumbly. Though it was only a game, the feeling of having someone slit open your throat definitely wasn’t something he’d ever want to experience.

Once Unparalleled Dragon King finally snapped out of his stupor, he went crazy. He charged at host and madly attacked him. 2eYVp3

“Die die die die!!!”

Unparalleled Dragon King didn’t even drink a potion. Even if he got hit, he wanted revenge for what host had done, attacking without care for the damage he was taking. Host’s attacks were steady and precise, but they didn’t deal much damage. So, their Hearts SP gauges were completely corrupted almost simultaneously. However, host’s Hearts SP was being depleted faster under Unparalleled Dragon King’s stronger attacks.

At the thought that host would die at his hands, Unparalleled Dragon King’s eyes went red with excitement. He had hated host from the moment this chessboard began, and every time host went against him, his anger had risen further. Before, when he saw that Scenario 9 was “kill all murderers”, he had been disappointed that it was GShanzi and not host… That’s right, what was host’s identity again…?

That was when host retracted his cross-shaped sword, allowing it to return to its original form. RCFO1H

Only then did they realize that the cross-shaped weapon’s original form really was in fact a holy cross. Host held up his cross and very calmly intoned a single word, “Purify.”

A faint white halo surrounded the black-haired young man, giving him a holy aura. In an instant, Unparalleled Dragon King saw the Hearts SP that he had spent so long corrupting go all red.

“You’re a damn healer…” Unparalleled Dragon King’s voice was weak with disbelief.

Considering how much he healed, he was definitely a Hearts type healer! But he hadn’t seemed at all like a healer before! He was even more eager to fight those mobs than the DPS Unparalleled Dragon King! ZqDFNH

Host merely raised his head slightly in response, revealing those golden eyes. Even though he knew it was a side effect of some skill, making eye contact with those golden eyes at such a close distance still had Unparalleled Dragon King shuddering. That gaze wasn’t human. Under the spreading gold, it was almost like a god looking down at insignificant mortals.

Shan Ziwei bit into his own hand, attempting to use pain to calm the desire inside him. He had only just managed to escape death. If he still died because he couldn’t control his own excitement, that would be even more annoying than dying to Unparalleled Dragon King.

So, Shan Ziwei showed no mercy, biting down furiously even as blood filled his mouth and his MP dropped. Under his self-torment, his Hearts SP was maintained at a stable 1 percent and managed to not drop to zero. hXQJTk

After making sure that his desire was completely overwhelmed with pain, Shan Ziwei finally let out a breath of relief. He put his hand down, turning his attention to the situation with Unparalleled Dragon King and host.

The battle there had come more or less to a close. Shan Ziwei saw host say something to Unparalleled Dragon King, first turning Unparalleled Dragon King’s face pale, then green. Finally, he glared at host like the other was some sort of ghost before turning and looking straight at Shan Ziwei with an accusatory and frantic expression.

Huh…?

Shan Ziwei didn’t even have the time to contemplate it, when he saw host take advantage of Unparalleled Dragon King’s lapse in attention, finishing off the red-haired young man’s remaining Hearts SP with a few slashes. He then concluded the battle with a handful of death powder to turn the spiritually broken down Unparalleled Dragon King into a corpse. RyV9wz

Shan Ziwei was stunned. Host’s actions were too decisive and swift. It wasn’t until the guy had died that Shan Ziwei realized that the person he had killed was a player and not a pawn. Shan Ziwei stared at Unparalleled Dragon King’s corpse. It didn’t seem there was much difference between a player’s death and a pawn’s death. The only difference, Shan Ziwei was about to conclude, was that players wouldn’t drop chess pieces after death, but then he saw blue light come from Unparalleled Dragon King’s corpse and form into a knight chess piece. A white one.

… White chess pieces?

That was when Shan Ziwei suddenly realized that in chess, there were two sides, white and black, which stood on opposite sides as enemies. It was a rather suitable analogy for players and pawns.

Shan Ziwei, however, wasn’t cheered up by this revelation. Instead, all he felt was a chill. EMkaVz

In RPG, the computer-controlled pawns dropped black chess pieces while players dropped white-chess pieces. This was like saying that these players were nothing more than pawns themselves.

–– If everyone was a pawn, then who was the player?

Shan Ziwei saw host pick up the white knight chess piece and walk towards him.

“Thank you… for saving me again.” 7rgbst

Shan Ziwei thanked host. He was very grateful to host. Including this time, host had helped him at least thrice in this one chessboard.

Host simply nodded, not speaking, but for some reason Shan Ziwei felt like he could hear the other say you’re welcome.

“Unparalleled Dragon King…” Shan Ziwei began but didn’t know how to continue. He was angered by Unparalleled Dragon King’s sneak attack, but from the very beginning this had been a misunderstanding. If it wasn’t for the fact that he had lied at the beginning, Unparalleled Dragon King wouldn’t have come after him. There was no saying who exactly had wronged whom. Shan Ziwei could only change the topic, “What did you say to him just now? At the very end. He seemed to waver then.”

Host raised his head slightly, his hair parting to reveal his eyes. His eyes were like two deep, ancient pools, silent and bewitching, as if they would devour those that were reflected in them. Eo7NaC

“I told him he had gone after the wrong person.”

Shan Ziwei’s mind went blank, overloading from the sheer amount of information that went through his mind in that moment, causing him to not come up with anything at all. He could only watch, tongue-tied, as the black-haired young man continued to speak, “I’m the murderer.”

Host’s voice was soft, and he seemed to lean in subconsciously, noticing this fact. Now, anything that host said would be clear to Shan Ziwei’s ears.

“I hate scammers.” zL IsE

Shan Ziwei suddenly shoved host away. This time, he no longer cared about that whole acting with fists scenario anymore. The white-haired young man lowered his head mechanically, looking down in disbelief at the cross-shaped sword that the black-haired young man had used to pierce his heart.

[Hearts SP: 0%]

In that moment, Shan Ziwei’s vision became seeped in crimson. The entire world around him seemed to have sunken into a sea of blood that warped the environment, the black-haired young man’s expression, and everything else in view. In this distorted, blood-soaked world, only host’s voice was clear and eerily gentle.

“Only I am allowed to kill you.” oJbXnR

Y-y-yandere warning!

It seems like it really has been a loooong time since I last last read through the later chapters of RPG, as at some point the author went back and edited most of the symbols all into word form for consistency it seems (or maybe this idiot translator just has an appalling memory orz… but there were still some symbols there when I looked yesterday!) :blobsweats: Coupled with the fact there isn’t really a big preference for symbols over words or words over symbols, I will be keeping everything in word form uwu

By the way, look at what I found in the comments to this chapter on jjwxc looool I thought it was hilarious so I’m sharing. (For those that don’t get it, the author of RPG, Tui, is also the author of The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to be in True Love. Read the first few chapters or just the summary of Reader and Protag to get the joke)
