The man held the child, motionless. It was clear that something was wrong.

The adjutant stepped forward, “Major General…” c0UlQs

When he saw the vacant expression on the man’s face, his voice abruptly stopped.

After being stunned for a few seconds, the adjutant went to check the child whose eyes were now closed, “Major General, the temperature difference is too drastic. Normally, the child would have a headache and a fever. Your subordinates should immediately send for a doctor.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Lei Ming suddenly lifted his head, “Notify all the doctors.”

The adjutant was frightened by his bloodshot eyes. He didn’t delay for a moment and followed the order. 1LOiPI

Others around him were quietly discussing; they thought that regardless of the child’s importance, Lei Ming was making a fuss over nothing and that he was being too nervous over the boy.

From a distance away, the regiment commander ordered, “Lei Ming, just give the child to your subordinate.”

Lei Ming hugged the boy and turned his back, “Commander, give me some time.”

The commander wanted to say more, but the man already left, quickly walking away.

Soon, all the military doctors gathered in front of a bed. When they saw the child, after focusing and inspecting him, their expressions changed.

“Major General Lei Ming, the child has already stopped breathing.”

The room fell deathly silent.

The adjutant couldn’t believe it, “How is that possible?” QgWwI

He grabbed the nearest doctor, “Just now, he was fine, a healthy young man. Now you say that he isn’t breathing? Is this some kind of joke?”

The doctor who was being questioned got angry from embarrassment, “Dead or alive, it’s easy to see which condition. How could we make a mistake?”

The adjutant roared, “Nonsense!”

The doctor said if he didn’t believe him, then they should send the boy to the hospital. The other doctors agreed. r2SoxG

No breathing, no heartbeat, vital signs completely gone: if they made a mistake in diagnosing his symptoms, then they should give up their careers in medicine.

The adjutant pushed the man away. He looked at the man sitting there, opened his mouth and cried out as his shoulders collapsed forward, “Major General…”

Lei Ming’s eyes were hooded, “Everyone leave.”

The doctors sighed, pitying over the fact that such a young boy had lost his life, and all left the room. qN pvd

The adjutant left the room with heavy steps as his eyes turned red in an instant.

A large-scale war was close at hand, but now that this happened, the major general had lost his wits and was heart-broken. Feeling so down, he definitely wouldn’t be able to take part in the upcoming conflict.

The adjutant was still having a hard time accepting this, “How could he suddenly…”

After hearing some footsteps approach, there was no time to wipe the tears on his face before he lifted his head to see the regiment commander. 3Om1N6

The commander frowned, “What happened?”

A mournful voice issued from the adjutant’s mouth, “That child…died.”

“Died?” Upon hearing this, the commander’s steps came to a halt as he asked, “Did you get a doctor to take a look yet?”

“Un.” The adjutant wiped his eyes, “Several doctors all confirmed it.” t36y0

Ten minutes later, the troops departed without Lei Ming.

Chen You, who was floating in the air, wondered, The target didn’t go, so his fate has been changed. My task should be considered complete. Why isn’t there any prompt? VZWwpH

The system said, “Maybe you got it wrong?”

After hearing this, Chen You realized that he still needed to wait three days. It was during this period of time that Lei Ming had gotten injured and finally died.

Taking precautions against any emergencies, it would be best if Lei Ming didn’t go anywhere and stayed by his side during these three days.

Chen You drifted back and forth in the room before floating over to the man’s side, quietly accompanying him. doq4en

I’m really sorry for frightening you. I was just driven into a corner.

My intentions were to save you from your destined death.

Lei Ming held one of the child’s hands, his eyebrows deeply furrowed. His face was devoid of expression, neither sad nor pained, and it was impossible to detect what he was thinking.

Chen You stated, “I’m really scared he’ll cremate me.” lEkrMn

The system replied, “Then pray.”

Chen You seriously asked, “Now that I’m in a spiritual state, does praying still work?”

The system retorted, “Even if you weren’t in a spiritual state, praying would still be useless.”

Chen You, “…” jOWBzN

He temporarily resolved to ignore the system, but after a short time passed, he called for the system again.

It’s lonely, ah. Only the system knew all his secrets, so he could act recklessly in front of it and did not need to put on a disguise.

Lei Ming took a dagger out of his trouser pocket.

Chen You was startled, What are you trying to do? Don’t be impulsive. 1TfjnE

Lei Ming cut into his own wrist and let the blood flow out. He held up the child’s chin with one hand and brought his bleeding wrist to the boy’s mouth.

Blood continued to pour out, staining the child’s chin, neck, and clothes.

Chen You looked at the scene before him and was confused.

After blood turned the bed a crimson red, Lei Ming seemed to finally realize that there was something wrong with this method. He muttered to himself, “This doesn’t work…” qGC J0

Of course this doesn’t work! Don’t believe a bunch of random nonsense. I’m not a monster, I can’t drink blood. Chen You anxiously spun round and round.

Lei Ming got up to change the bedcovers and took the bloody clothes off of the youth.

Chen You silently calmed down. He didn’t like using this method to witness a person’s mourning, feeling like he could do nothing.

It was unknown who leaked the matter of Lei Ming failing to go to the battlefield, but the old man of the Lei family sent a message fiercely reprimanding him and directly called. gl8ESk

He was a soldier and his partner who died in battle had also been a soldier. This behavior of deserting on the eve of a battle was, according to the Lei family, the worst action he could take and a hit to their reputation.

Lei Ming didn’t utter a single word as he listened.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

The old man’s tone was very displeased, “I heard that the young man suddenly fainted, so you didn’t go to battle, is that correct?”

“You should know that you aren’t a doctor, you’re a soldier. What’s the use of you staying behind?” VfyHjP

Lei Ming remained mute.

The more the old man spoke, the angrier he got. Previously, he did feel that the child was quite good and obedient. In his heart, he had already acknowledged the boy as his future granddaughter-in-law. Unexpectedly, that child had run over to make trouble for his grandson.

“Is he there? I’ll speak to him!”

Lei Ming finally opened his mouth, his voice hoarse, “Grandfather, if you have something to say to him, just tell me. When he wakes up, I’ll relay it to him.” h6xf3y

The old man was surprised, “He hasn’t woken up yet?”

Lei Ming, “Un.”

The old man frowned, “Ming-er, in handling this matter, you’ve let your grandfather down.”

Lei Ming said, “I’m sorry.” d1Tgjm

The old man sighed, “Don’t apologize to your grandfather. If you’re really sorry, tell that to your subordinates!”

Lei Ming was poker-faced.

The old man offered his sincere advice, “Listen to your grandfather. Give the child to your trusted followers and go join the army.”

“I heard from Commander Zhang that you put forth the strategy for this battle. If you don’t go, what will happen?” FsVAX0

Lei Ming stated, “I can’t go.”

No matter how the old man scolded him, Lei Ming only had this one reply which made the old man tremble with fury and almost lose his breath.

“Good, good, good. Grandfather’s words have no effect anymore, is that it? If you want to be a deserter, then don’t come back to the Lei family.”

When the communication closed, Lei Ming pinched the space between his eyebrows. RoB2Yr

Chen You didn’t understand the complexities of established military families, however, if Lei Ming didn’t go to the battle today, he wasn’t sure if they would win or lose the war.

“444, can that alien king be killed?”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

System, “You can’t even fend for yourself, why are you trying to meddle in other people’s business?”

Chen You said, “In the process of changing Lei Ming’s fate, I don’t want countless others to die as a result. This method isn’t right.” evHrdl

Noticing a reminder of the Good value accumulating, he was at a loss for a moment, but ended up not paying it too much attention. Instead, he continued, “Can you kill it?”

The system was silent, then said, “I can’t.”

Chen You added, “Of course you can. I know you’re especially powerful.”

System, “I really can’t.” nRDE5C

Chen You, “…” Originally, the battle lasted three days, but there were many variables involved.

The system said, “The people who were bound to die, will inevitably die.”

Chen You was not pacified at all, “I don’t like the way you’re saying this. That means that in saving Lei Ming, it’s like I’m bailing out one person free of charge.”

The system explained, “As long as he doesn’t die during the specified time, whatever happens to him afterwards has nothing to do with you.” tkDz o

Chen You disliked hearing this even more.

He turned his head and watched as Lei Ming carried his body out of the room to a wide, open space.

The moment he saw fire, Chen You’s soul trembled.

Fuck me, wait-wait a minute! Don’t cremate me like this. Don’t cradle and hug me. Shouldn’t you tell someone about this first?! tkH0Gw

Lei Ming suddenly changed his mind and whispered in the child’s ear, “Maybe, there still is hope, right?”

Chen You bobbed his head like a chicken. Yes, yes, yes. There still is hope in the world. As long as you don’t set me on fire, three days later, I will live again.

Lei Ming hugged the youth to his chest, “Don’t be angry.”

Chen You circled around him again, floating. I’m not angry. Please put me back on the bed in my room. I’m afraid of heights. O6oYRT

Standing in the same place, Lei Ming buried his face in the boy’s neck as his shoulders tensed.

Chen You fell into a daze, Is this man crying?

Please visit chrysanthemumgarden (dot) com

Then, he heard a constrained crying sound ring out in the open space. It continued for a long time.

Chen You stared at the wound on the man’s wrist as the crying sound entered his ear. He suddenly felt that using this unique skill was really terrible, hurting both himself and others. zSxf9b

Everyone in the Empire thought that the major general was incapable of this emotion called love, but little did they know, he also had things he was unable to let go of.

Maybe it had nothing to do with love, and maybe it was love. He didn’t fully understand his feelings. All he knew was that he wasn’t willing to give up so easily.

Carrying the youth back, Lei Ming took a book and opened it up.

Chen You floated over to take a look. His eyes widened in an instant. On the page, he saw a record of aliens exchanging a life for a life. tRTQHv

He was extremely anxious. Damnit, big brother don’t do something stupid. I already saved you once, at the risk of having a mental illness.

Fortunately, Lei Ming only sat on the bed and read books the entire night without attempting anything.

Chen You was afraid that as soon as it was daybreak, Lei Ming would put him aside and rush to the battlefield.

After all, he was technically dead. Lei Ming might think that keeping watch over him for an extended amount of time is meaningless since there is no difference between waiting for the dead and waiting for the dead after a mission failure. V MecF

Chen You worried the whole night.

The next day, Lei Ming put a coat on the youth and said, “I’m taking you home.”

He added a hat, “It’s snowing over there. The temperature is more than ten degrees below zero. It’s very cold.”

Chen You followed along and quickly realized that the home Lei Ming was referring to was not the capital star but rather planet Earth. bldFh5

Initially, he was a bit worried over whether he’d be able to float and travel such a long distance, but later realized he’d worried over nothing.

Luoshenhua: Sorry for the unexpected hiatus, I was planning to release the rest of the arc this weekend but only got through two chapters. I’m halfway through the last chapter, though, so that should be coming tomorrow! Didn’t want to leave it on the cliffhanger for too long. Anyways, the peeps in the comments totally called it with the chapter for this title, haha.

  1. It’s really a tough decision. Deserters in an army usually got court martialed and death as punishment right?

Thank you for the translation! 😆

  2. Yup, this was what i was very worried about 😅

Thankfully our ML is too attached to give up on day 1… but that repressed cry really got to me. 🥺 poor Lei Ming, don’t worry Chen You is still alive and he’s with you

  3. Ummm umm what’s gonna happen to the war? Are they gonna lose? I’m kinda scared that the consequences would be very bad. And ML crying is so sad T^T

    Thanks for the chapter <3

  4. My poor boy:( What a cruel state he was put into! He absolutely didn’t deserve this!!! My poor man is in the verge of going crazy!!! Chen You could have found a different way, he could have sneaked in the war and saved him or anything other than this horrible method. Not only it broke his heart and made him miserable, he took a huge blow to his military career and also his family.

I’ve always liked the MC, even though he’d leave the main character alone and miserable at the end while not bearing lingering feelings no matter how long they stayed together. But really, one time is enough. You’re intending to take this grievous step twice? Really? The man will be traumatized when you actually finish your mission and officially die, he’ll wait three days and even more for your body to regain conscious!! My heart breaks for him. I never want him to experience this… I don’t know how I should continue…

    Thank you for translating!

  5. I seldom post a comment but can’t help it, it’s kinda cruel for MC to torment the ML that way. Though I understand that’s for his mission but is there really no other way? No props can’t be used? The MC is being too selfish (just my opinion), he’s not thinking on ML’s behalf. After he completed his mission what will happen to ML? Ruined reputation, a crime of abandoning his duty. It’s like he’s helping the ML to blacken more. Oh well, just my thoughts, thank you for translating this wonderful novel.
