Our Sweet DaysChapter 9

Once Sun Fang reached the shopping district, it didn’t take him long to succumb to the urge to go to the café. He couldn’t for the life of him remember what it was called, but he knew that there was an employee there named—Mo Cheng, he thought? Something like that, anyway.

On the way over, he’d looked over the cinema’s schedule and found an old classic movie that he wanted to watch. Already over four hundred years old, the movie was one of those that had periodic returns to stardom before it faded into obscurity again. It was an old favorite of his. L1pGQP

Sun Fang waltzed into the café, whistling cheerfully under his breath. He went straight to the counter and smiled at the male employee—he was right, the man’s name was Mo Cheng.

”Hi,” Sun Fang chirped. His mood had only improved during the journey here, his amusement at his butler’s behavior invigorating him.

Mo Cheng smiled back, a subdued smile that didn’t quite cross the line into timid, and said, ”Hello.”

It was several hours until the movie would start and Sun Fang had more than enough time to kill. Pulling off his sunglasses, he bit down on the edge of the frame and stared with glistening eyes at the huge display of cakes, muffins, cookies and, well, more pastries than he thought such a tiny café would have. His eyes drove over them, twinkling as he imagined how good they would taste. AxdVrH

Finally, he ordered, ”A piece of carrot cake, thank you.”

Mo Cheng was not a particularly big man, Sun Fang couldn’t help but notice. Lean, but with clear musculature on his bare arms, he was perhaps only a couple of centimeters taller than Sun Fang. The man had darker skin than him, too, and his short hair was died a weirdly pleasing shade of green. Sun Fang didn’t remember that from the last time he was here; it must be a recent change.

In addition, with his heat so close behind him, Sun Fang’s nose was extra sensitive—he could clearly discern that Mo Cheng was a beta. Beyond that, his scent was calm and steady, his presence like a rock in an otherwise furious river.

Discreetly, Sun Fang inhaled that scent again.

Mo Cheng loaded up the cake on a tray by the cash register. He smoothly slid into the motion of getting Sun Fang the same drink he’d had last time, and Sun Fang had to contain a grin—Mo Cheng had remembered him as well.

He wasn’t sure what was so exciting about this. Maybe it was just that he was free now; he could pursue whatever avenue of romance that he wanted. There was no longer a need to keep it a secret, no longer a need to fear his family’s reaction. No longer would he be berated for daring to date an omega like Mianmian, for squandering his talent as an omega—by which they meant having the audacity to not marry an alpha.

Sun Fang had nothing holding him back any more, no reason not to just… ask a person he was interested in out on a date. Even if he didn’t know them, what did it matter? That was what dating was for! And if they rejected him, so what? He’d just console himself with chocolate and no-one would be around to judge him for it.

He smiled at the beta, cheerfully going through the motions of paying. He grabbed the tray and looked around; there was just as few people as last time and as a result, there were plenty of free seats to choose from. This time, Sun Fang chose a table with a better view of the counter. Q1ByYx

He got distracted for a bit due to how magnificent the cake was—it practically melted in his mouth. The sauce it had come with tasted like vanilla to his refined palate and he nearly moaned from the heavenly experience his taste buds were going through. In far too little time, the cake was gone and he was left pouting at an empty plate.

Sun Fang then flopped back against the armchair’s soft backrest, poking his sandals off so he could curl up with his legs. His gaze drifted back to Mo Cheng, the man now in the middle of cleaning a table. He let his eyes follow the beta’s movements, having no reason to hurry along. It was strangely satisfying, just watching someone calmly do their work.

It was decided then, he was asking the other man out.

And if Mo Cheng rejected him—likely, considering the rumors about him weren’t exactly encouraging and they didn’t even know each other—that would be that. He’d get another cake in the name of comforting himself and use it as an excuse to drag his butler with him to the theater. dcqMHR

Sun Fang waited a bit more before he stood up, taking his time to soak up the gentle atmosphere. The music was still lazily drifting through the air, the scent of pastries overpowering any trace of pheromones. Sun Fang leaned his head against the backrest and quietly watched dust swirl through the air, both body and mind delightfully relaxed.

When he finally rose from his seat, there was nobody near the counter. It didn’t matter to him if they’d be overheard, but he didn’t know if Mo Cheng would feel the same way and didn’t want to risk it. If he got banned from the café, that would be truly sad.

”Hey,” he said as he walked over to the counter, placing his lower arms on it and leaning forwards. He smiled charmingly and asked, ”Mind if I ask you something?”

Mo Cheng furrowed his brows a little, but he didn’t seem annoyed as he said, ”No, go ahead.” P5TD9F

Grinning up at Mo Cheng, Sun Fang took the permission and ran with it. ”Want to go on a date with me?”

The bewildered expression on Mo Cheng’s face was surprisingly cute.

  1. Cute!!! Go for it. cheers If he fails, might as well get another piece of the delicious cake. 😂 Hopefully not thought. Oh, is he really a beta? And with green hair? Wonder what made him choose that color? Somewhat imagine Mo Cheng to look a bit rebellious with that color. 🤭

  2. I hope our robot gets a nice partner too at some point, because otherwise wouldn’t he bet stuffed with dogfood everyday taking care of love-struck MC? What am I talking about at chapter 9 lol
