Our Sweet DaysChapter 68

The sound of a helicopter roared over his head. Sun Fang raised a hand over his eyes and looked up, spotting the black blot in the sky after a moment. It was flying inside the dome, so it was probably an ambulance. Sun Fang’s eyes followed it as it flew off behind a few gigantic buildings, and he turned back to his companion.

Poppy and him were back at the zoo, watching the baby animals. There had been a few new ones born recently and the zoo had finally allowed them in the public enclosures, which meant that Sun Fang could finally properly admire them, instead of just watching videos on the zoo’s website. Not that the videos were bad, they were adorable, but it was an entirely different feeling to see them face to face in reality. fOjl9S

Sun Fang pressed his hands to his cheek as the tiny baby monkey yawned. He felt Poppy yank on his arm in excitement, the motion pulling him to and fro. Sun Fang ignored it, more focused on getting his fill of cute babies.

”This is awesome,” he mumbled when another baby monkey laid down next to the first one and yawned as well. They were sleeping together! They were cuddling! Sun Fang yanked on Poppy’s arm, unable to do anything else to convey his happiness, and Poppy yanked on his, and it was just a happy cycle of yanking.

Eventually, a big monkey laid down in front of the baby monkeys and the small ones could no longer be seen. Sun Fang frowned, grumbling a little about it, but knowing that there was nothing he could do, he turned around to continue walking to another enclosure. Poppy followed, their clapped hands swinging in the air. When he glanced at the beta, he saw that he was grinning, his eyes sparkling with joy.

The stark joy made Sun Fang happier, and he began to hum. Poppy bobbed his head in time with it, pointing at a booth selling ice cream and casting a questioning look at Sun Fang. Sun Fang nodded, and they diverted their path. XdDx87

”So,” Poppy said when they were sitting on a small table next to the booth, both of them holding ice cream cones which were rapidly melting. ”Where’s Ivy?”

”Ah, I see how it is,” Sun Fang drawled, narrowing his eyes. ”You only came to see Ivy.”

Poppy tilted his head to the side, smiling bashfully as he said, ”Well, Ivy is a lovely person. If you were in my place, wouldn’t you?”

”Oh, I would ditch you in a heartbeat, Ivy is my most important person,” Sun Fang swore, not a single lie to be told. He grinned, and Poppy finally snorted, coughing lightly and then peeping when he saw a part of his ice cream fall off and land one the table. While Poppy was pouting, Sun Fang viciously attacked his own ice cream so that it would not suffer the same dastardly fate.

”Ivy will be here soon,” he said once he’d finished the entire cone. He was licking his fingers, trying to get all the hints of ice cream that had melted onto him. Poppy didn’t spare him a lick of attention, too busy catching his own melted ice cream in a glass and drinking from it. Sun Fang frowned somewhat at that; it didn’t look very pleasant, and it couldn’t be cold anymore either.

Poppy saw his look and furrowed his eyebrows, ”What?” he asked, sounding mystified. Sun Fang just pointed to the glass full of melted ice cream. Poppy sighed and explained, ”I eat too slowly because I want to treasure it, but then this always happens.”

”New to Guillotine?” Sun Fang asked, the thought having not occurred to him before. But he supposed that that now that when he thought about it, Poppy did have a different accent.

Poppy confirmed, ”I’ve only been here two years now. I moved here to go to Kardd University.” meq Hn

Sun Fang asked, ”It’s going well?”

”Noooot… entirely,” Poppy said, waving his hand in the air, squinting as he very obviously tried to think of a pleasant way to say something. ”The classes are fine, but the homework is just not working for me. I’m not good at studying alone, in the first place. I always get distracted by something. So I’m thinking of switching my course to the equivalent course with no homework. The problem is that because of the different studying methods, I’d basically be starting the whole course over.”

Sun Fang smiled sympathetically, unsure what else to do. He tacked on, ”Well, you should do what would be better for you, I guess.”

Poppy sighed, ”Yes, I know, but still… two whole years wasted…” He put his hands over his face and thumped it all against the table, staying with his hands and arms against it and sighing pitifully. Sun Fang’s lips twitched and he raised his hand to elegantly cover his smile. I3L2Oo

”Don’t worry about a measly two years,” Sun Fang said, waving at Ivy approaching in the distance. ”You’re a kid, you have a whole life ahead of you. When you’re old, you’ll regret all that time you wasted on homework that didn’t mean anything, so you might as well switch before you graduate,” he shrugged.

Poppy groaned loudly. Ivy reached them and looked judgmentally at the melted ice cream (a nice pink color) in the glass. Sun Fang pointed at Poppy, easily throwing him under the bus. Ivy then looked judgmentally at Poppy.

Poppy, who’d still been hiding in his hands, glanced up when he felt the ominous gaze. He smiled, saying, ”Ivy! I haven’t seen you at the market in a while, how’ve you been?” while at the same time attempting to hide the glass under the table. But it was too late. Ivy had already seen, and Ivy’s judgmental gaze could move mountains.

Sun Fang coughed to hide his laughter and ducked his head. Ivy continued to stare at Poppy until Poppy broke and started spewing apologies. HajmpR
