However, Ye Lin reported that An Long was outside toying with flowers and grass; he spent his days very happily. After the two finally reconciled and after much difficulty, resumed correspondence, he even dared to provoke numerous immortal ladies and female cultivators to come make trouble at the gate of the Medicine King’s Valley. It added chaos to his research and he was so angry that he wanted to hit someone. He was simply a thoughtless, straight-man bastard!

Because my characters are comparatively controversial, I’d like to say a few words.
First of all, don’t just say that the author doesn’t understand Wuhuan as a character. His psychological problems are very complicated — he has a highly-retentive memory, he’s clever and perceptive, prideful, a perfectionist, has strong desire for control, serious mysophobia, etc., taken together, they cause a variety of serious mental illnesses (at the same time, its part of his charm). If I was even slightly off in my understanding and control of his character, the Wuhuan who would have appeared would no longer be the one you’ve seen and liked.
Love and doting affection might resolve the psychological trauma of ordinary people.
This is not possible for Wuhuan. I have already given the answer in the chapter regarding his fantasy. Right now, doting affection will only cause him suffering when he is sober and awake. The love given by Qingshi will only make him feel inferior and he will be trapped in the cage that is the Medicine King’s Valley. He will pretend to have recovered. He will carefully play the role of a happy character that everyone wants to see. (Patients with mental illness hide all their symptoms, which represents a refusal to be treated.)
The title of the first volume is First Meeting. It’s just the preliminary treatment for his physical wounds and giving him a reason to stop trying to kill himself.
The title of the second volume is Madness. It is necessary to expand everyone’s psychological problems to the largest extent and to expose their hidden problems, igniting them all.
Only when the sea of blood and mountain of corpses is initiated and Wuhuan’s unbridled hatred completely released, allowing his mentality to change, will the real road to redemption begin. An Long is an important trigger. His feelings are by no means simply to create some hellish scene or to have a lady-killer character design. I don’t like to making meaningless set ups. Every step was done thinking about how the next few steps will be. (It can’t be helped that I write slowly.) (Although the unrequited love is miserable, there is no possibility of multiple angles in the story.) (An Long’s final ending is still good though so don’t worry too much.)
In all psychotherapy, the doctor is only an aid and ultimately it is necessary for the patient to seek his own cure and to stand up by himself.
So the story has to go til the end to solve all the problems.
If this really bothers you, you can choose to abandon this story, or wait until the end of the story to read the final answer.
PS: When I decided to write this story that runs counter to mainstream stories, I had already prepared myself to have absolutely no regrets. I will not compromise for commercial viability nor would I change the outline just because someone disliked it.
What a fascinating authors note! Fair point, all of it. I’m more interested than ever to see how this is resolved… and more pleased than ever An Long still ends up with a good (?) ending. As long as he doesn’t die as a plot sacrifice I’ll be pleased. It’s how so many of the secondary leads go.

Totally agreed. I am happy that An Long will not be killed off as i totally get him. If Wuhuan had recovered with just love and affection, i would have been disappointed. as a psychology student, author has some truth to their words. of course, there cant be a 1:1 comparison to real life in the mundane 21st century, especially because a story needs lows and highs to drive plot, but everything else is true in regards to wuhuan. hes very emotionally reclusive. and sqs is not only his doctor, but his saviour and master. ywh can only show his best sides because he has severe attachment issues to sqs. unless pushed, he’ll be perfectly content on relying on antidepressants to bury his feelings for pretty much forever. in wuhuans case specifically, he needs to be pushed to realise that emotions arent something that you can just hide. they need to be nurtured and cared for. and its true that sqs cant be his cure-all. sqs is probably on the autism spectrum, his special interest in medicine, him being slow to pick up on social cues, rigid daily scheduling, etc. and i actually like that he could be good represntation for autism because hes deeply empathic, which goes against the false autistic stereotype of being emotionless robots. but anyway, i support the author and think theyre on the right path.

Reading the authors note after finishing the whole novel and I can say that I really respect them. They really persevered until the end and didn’t change anything because a few readers were unhappy about the novel.
I like all the characters, they feel very different from each other and very real. The healing process of Wuhuan and how he comes to terms with himself was also written spectacularly. This novel is one of the bests I’ve read.

The fact that the MC follows the Caminhos dos Sem Coração, totally weakening him in the novel (because as soon as he falls in love he will look like a damsel in distress precisely in a world that only the strongest is right, even if he has ML, I prefer Strong, independent MCs). As someone studying psych, I would like to commend the author for doing an awesome job. It is true that a person cannot exactly be healed by just love or affection of another person. Healing requires far complex processes and it is usually more of internal and personal. It is only when you yourself understood and finally found the courage to make peace of your past you would be able to trully move on from it. You may be assisted by the people that surround you, by a special someone, by the warm and loving environment, etc. But at some point, you would need to face and release the negativities you have inside, it would be scary and painful but you would need to do it, you have to, only then the process of healing would occur.
Who even dares question the author’s understanding of their characters? As someone studying psychiatry, this is the best written psychological novel. The more intelligent a person is, the better they can hide their problems, and our dear phoenix here has IQ 162 and could be even higher. His mental illness goes deep and his take and thoughts regarding his problem go even deeper.

This has easily become one of my favourite and one of the most thought out novel I’ve read. I binge read this up to now, but I’ll be taking a break for a while to come back to this.
I really appreciate the author’s style and the portrayal of Wuhuan he’s a beautiful lunatic, a damned beauty and very much human I like that he isn’t sugar coated to fit into The ideal. Wuhuan road to healing from all his torn down heart and mind shattering can’t be short and the author portrays that, no one heals from this it’s not an injury, you just let it go by facin your fears and driving strength from it.

We were having a debate in our classroom only a few days ago, when Our ma’am was saying how harmful it was that in Movies and books people showed that all the mental problems of a person dissapears when they fall in love. I love the the characters and the chapters that has been added to them . Especially the main characters, however A’Long rubs me the wrong way due to him always tearing out the MC ‘s flesh . I liked him before now…. not so much .😬
I’ve been thinking about the time when Qingshing killed Wuhuan’s hateful shifu. I was a bit confused why he didn’t feel the slightest disturbance ending another person’s (although I’m extremely reluctant to refer to him as one) life when Qingshing was just an ordinary person not long ago. It may be because of his dao but I think it only washes away feelings of desire and such… So I’m not sure. Aside from his psychological state when he can’t move even a part of his body (coz of his condition from before this world), the only problem I thought he had was his low EQ. After that chapter, I began to doubt it. I hope nothing’s wrong with Qingshing though.
There are several grammatical mistakes but ignore that. 😭

I was worried that this novel would have an ending like a certain other story that left me unsatisfied and feeling a little miserable despite the HE, but after reading the author’s note and seeing that our Yue Wuhuan will get to heal and won’t be stuck in possessive psycho mode until the very end, I feel so relieved.
I love possessive ML’s as much as the next guy, but at some point it becomes too much. A lot of BL these days crosses that line.
Woahhhhh the author’s note is so pog, i am looking even more forward to the next chapters of the story. I already found Wuhuan and his mentality, problems, mental illnesses very interesting.

Affection and actions of love won’t magically heal psychological disorders… They can trigger or inhibit symptoms but ultimately a human’s psyche is a reflection (one of many) of a person… It’s not until we are at peace with ourselves can we truly be “healed”… And some of us don’t want to be healed anymore

Everything the author said is right, and I also sympathize deeply. Anonymous idiots telling you that you don’t understand your own characters due to the fact that they don’t actually understand them is incredibly maddening, not to mention presumptuous, foolish, and shitty.
Love can help psychological illness but it can only help a little. When love was utilized with correct psychotherapy and treatment then it can help but being loved in itself can’t take someones PTSD, personality disorder, emotional disorder, anxiety and perception out of or in bound of the boundaries of love.

I’m thankful for the author for not solving Wuhuan’s trauma easily and from MC’s affection alone. What he had experience is so fucking evil and unforgivable… It makes me cry and very angry just imaging it. Wuhuan deserve to vent the grievances he experienced, he need to go wild to become better. If it is in reality I don’t expect for a person who had gone through that thing would be ever be healed. Wuhuan need this madness volume.
I love how messy these 3 idiots are, its honestly saddening yet you feel closer to these characters. One is insane cuz of the trauma and possible ptsd of the lightning situation and his past, the other has no idea how to fix this issue much less even talk about the issue without causing an uproar and the other is just oh so heart broken for not being the one to be chosen.

Love the fact that Wuhuan didn’t just magically get better because of love and affection because that is just not true. I relate to Wuhuan so much because Qingshi’s actions of affection just leave him wanting more of them, which he thinks he can only get while projecting the clean, kind persona he created and also just ends up trusting Qingshi but not himself enough to move on

I love how the author doesnt embelish and package mental illness as something beautiful and lived with. I know that there should be acceptance. But one must not forget the treatment for crying out loud which usually happens in the other novels nowadays. Kudos to author for revealing this hint or i might give up because i was starting to feel sick on how addressing the issue of mental illness is presented this way.
