There! How was it? I think it went well. Also, there’s name jokes in the second summary. I’ll explain at the end.
The novel will be called respectively/either: The more straightforward: “The Emperor And The Empress Are Both Trying To Top Me!” Or the more poetic: “Loved By The Dragon And Phoenix” or even a mix of both, though it must include emperor and empress or dragon and phoenix.
This will be more or less a light-hearted, fluffy slice of life novel, completely different from the idea in the last chapter. The setting is in ancient China and in the palace. There wouldn’t be much drama or angst considering there are literally only two people within the emperor’s harem, Shuang Xìnglian and Yi Xionghuang. And Zhang Julong will definitely not add more.
I won’t say more because I actually want to write a few shorts with this plot. I’ll be adding them to the end of future chapters so it can hopefully offset any angst. It’s not its own novel since it’s not fully BL, and CG is strictly for BL. Also because the style would be similar to “Telling Ghost Stories At My Ex-boyfriend’s Wedding” and “After Getting Gayified, I Swore Off Parody Mashups”, so the word count would be very low. It’s too short and definitely not because I’m lazy.
Anyways, I’ll go into details of the meaning of the characters’ names now. Each has a double meaning/homophone and a nickname. I honestly put too much thought into this. They’re also in dropdowns because I really like them and think they’re neat.
Let’s start with the protagonist Shuang Xìnglian.
Shuang Xìnglian’s Chinese characters are 霜星莲, which mean frost, star, and lotus respectively. Put it together you get “A Frozen Star within a Lotus.”
The double meaning/homophone is 双性恋, which means bisexual. As for why, I think you already know~
His nickname is 小星星, which is Xiao Xingxing. It means little star. In Chinese, repeating the second character makes the nickname more cutesy. However, in English, Little Star Star doesn’t work as well. It’s Little Star because he’s the little star to the other two’s worlds.
The next is the Male love interest Zhang Julong.
Zhang Julong’s Chinese characters are 张据隆, which means open up, seize, and prosperous respectively. Put it together you get “To Open up and Seize your Prosperity.”
The double meaning/homophone is 长巨龙, which means Long Huge Dragon. As for why it’s because he’s the Dragon Emperor. There’s another, but I don’t think I need to say it.
Now here’s the name joke from the second summary. His nickname from Yi Xionghuang, is 张小蛇, which is Zhang Xiaoshe. The first is just the surname, while the other two work together, meaning little snake. Calling a dragon a snake is disrespectful as hell, and it was also saying that the dragon was actually just a small snake.
Lastly, the Female love interest Yi Xionghuang.
Yi Xionghuang’s Chinese characters are 易詗熀, which mean amiable, clever, and dazzling respectively. Put it together you get “The most Amiable, Cleverest, and the most Dazzling lady.”
She actually has two double meanings/homophones. One is 燡雄凰, and the other 燡凶凰, which means Blazing Male Phoenix and Blazing Fierce Phoenix. 雄 and 凶 are both Xiong. As for why this name, it’s because she’s the Phoenix Empress and Blazing is the fire which relates to phoenixes. As for Male and Fierce, it’s because basically she’s not ‘girly’ and in ancient times, only males did what she’s doing. Fierce is because, well, she’s fierce.
Now here’s the other name joke from the second summary. Her nickname from Zhang Julong, is 易疯鸡, which is Yi Fengji. The first is just the surname, while the other two work together, meaning crazy chicken. Calling a phoenix a chicken is also disrespectful as hell.
