Jin SeCh41 - Rift (1)

Why do you have a sword in your hand? Do you want to kill me?

Bai Li wondered as he smiled faintly. Suddenly, he felt like his heart had had a hole punched through it. What little warmth had once been within barreled forth into the fathomless abyss that laid below. XqGdYj

I was so good to you. I dug my heart out for you. So why won’t you even look at me?

“Wuduan,” Bai Li whispered his name. He bent down, then ruthlessly bit down on his neck. Blood spurted out and seeped past Bai Li’s lips. He dug his teeth in further like a feral beast tearing into its prey; he could almost rend him to pieces and devour him whole.

Shi Wuduan’s face blanched with pain. He kneed Bai Li brutally in the stomach. He hadn’t expected that Bai Li, who was only half demon, would be affected so badly by the Yin Corpse Fire. The blow he’d struck in desperation hadn’t been softened at all. Though his progress had stalled during the years of his youth he’d spent on Jiulu Mountain, Shi Wuduan had never been a feeble bookworm. He’d struck hard enough to smash open a set of thick wooden doors, yet Bai Li hadn’t even flinched. It was like he had no sense of pain; that sonofabitch was still gnawing at him relentlessly as a starving wolf and hadn’t loosened up in the slightest.

“Bai… Li!” It was difficult for him to speak while Bai Li was strangling him and forcing his head back. He heaved the astrolabe in his hand and slammed it down on the back of Bai Li’s head.  n63mfv

While Shi Wuduan was stunned, raspy laughter escaped from Bai Li’s throat. The moment he opened his mouth, he could no longer stop. At first, the sound was quiet, but as time went on, it gradually got louder and louder. His face was contorted in an expression that was half weeping and half laughter like an utter madman.

Shi Wuduan….. Shi Wuduan…. Shi Wuduan…..

At that time, the green-robed man was atop a tower not far away. Somehow, he was able to stand at the very point of the tower as steadily as if on solid ground. The gurgling cloth person floated at his shoulder. His surroundings were illuminated by countless streaks of lightning, yet he didn’t move an inch. The gale winds blew his hair into disarray and sent them whipping against his face.

The cloth person cowered beside him, its gurgles resembling sobs. Then it got blown away by the wind.

The man sighed quietly, then seemed to laugh. He said, “So the wrath of the Demon Lord darkens the skies like lightning and thunder. How impressive.”

The cloth person drifted a bit closer to him and began gurgling nonstop. The man listened, tilting his head, though the smile on his face didn’t fade. He said, “No, no it wasn’t me. This fissure of theirs… was actually there all along. All I did was help things along, I don’t dare take credit for it — say, whose side do you think that kid’s going to pick? Will it be those desperate people who’ve crossed thousands of leagues to seek his refuge, or will it be his ‘childhood friend’ and his demons?” m7ZOjc

The cloth person shook his head faintly, saying “Gurgle.”

The man sighed, “You’re not a human, you wouldn’t understand humans. Then why don’t you guess what the Demon Lord is thinking right now? Does he want the power to topple mountains, or does he want to pathetically follow behind that person for the rest of his life?”

“Let’s see, then.” He said, “Let’s keep our eyes wide open and take a good look at what results will come of the burning of Yin Corpse Fire–”

Bai Li wrenched open the collar of Shi Wuduan’s robes, tearing a hole into the thick cotton cloth as easily as if it was paper. L19nCJ

Shi Wuduan shuddered and began quickly reciting an incantation. A fireball the size of a human head materialized in his hand then shot aggressively at Bai Li, who didn’t seem to fear fire at all. He stuck his hand straight into the fireball; the smell of singed flesh permeated the air. The sleeve from his elbow downwards had all burned away; his pale skin was instantly charred.

Suddenly, Shi Wuduan felt an agonizing pain in his wrist. He let out a muffled groan; sweat beaded on his forehead. Just then, Bai Li had used his charred arm to break his wrist.

Pitch black nails extended from Bai Li’s hand. They grew longer and longer, their tips gleaming with cold light. They pressed against Shi Wuduan’s bare chest, breaking skin upon the slightest touch.

A crackling sound filled the air as the two began to engage in a close-quarters battle of spells. But Shi Wuduan was only mortal, he felt pain, whereas Bai Li seemed to lack the sensation entirely. Shi Wuduan almost thought that even if this person had a massive hole bored through his chest, he could still bite him again without even flinching. 70gKQC

In the blink of an eye, Bai Li’s nails sliced open several long gashes on Shi Wuduan’s chest, deep enough to reveal bone. Blood spurted out and splashed against Bai Li’s cheek. He raised his hand and lightly licked the blood off his claws like a wild beast.

Shi Wuduan’s consciousness began to blur. He thought, “Is this bastard planning on cutting me open and eating me alive? That’s too terrible a way to die!”
