    We’re technically out of lockdown here in France since the beginning of the week, but office businesses still work from home, only some clothing shops are opening with limitations & long lines of people desperate to leave their homes I think, restaurants, museums, cinemas, malls are still closed, parks too here in Paris because we’re in the red zone alongside the east of the country, still too many cases..

    People trapped in tiny apartments in Paris, where they usually only slept & lived a very active life, went crazy, leaving the house & going straight to the only roofless, open places, alongside the river or in front of some monuments, got themselves drunk & the police had to disperse the crowds & ban alcohol in those places…

    So, even though we can technically leave our homes now without filling an “attestation” certifying that we’re going out for one of the approved reasons, there is mostly nowhere to go & crowds are dangerous with not enough masks around yet… so stay at home it is…

    • It’s similar in germany, at least here in lower saxony. But there are a lot of people who make their masks themselves, and since I’m more on the countryside, I haven’t heard of anything too bad.

      But you really lose track of the time… Just that I really like staying at home.

      • I really like staying at home & I have a decent sized apartment for this city, with enough light, but ironically, it was having to fill that beep paper every time I stepped foot outside the building to buy fresh food that made me feel trapped in a cage. The “you have one hour, timed, or you get a fine”, It added an extra layer of stress beside not breathing, not touching, not anything outside. Paris is one of the worst hit zones after all, being Tourist City & having so many humans per m2.

        There was a sense of never ending time, a silent city with no cars only happened early Sunday mornings before, & it was almost always sunny, but all the teleworkers left their homes after 7PM & on the weekend, especially those who had kids to take out like puppies, so anyone health conscious had to keep track of said time if we planned to leave our home. Social distancing is hard when families are running around.

    • It’s almost the same in my country, which is a Caribbean Island, as soon as the lockdown was semi lifted, a lot of people escaped their homes, and when by 5PM they have to return, roads are practically empty, it’s been a very uneasy time and situation; especially since people here love to lime ( drinking and dancing, etc ). Trinidad 8s really not feeling like Trinidad right now since this began. Our people are not accustomed to being made to have to social distancing themselves, it’s been hard and as soon as they came out , I’ve seen a lot of people going back to their old social norms ( hugging/ hanging onto each other/ sitting side by side ); their happy go lucky side that has been suppressed has exploded. Though by 6 – 7 PM the roads are clearer than I’ve ever seen in my life.
      • Yeah, physical distancing seems to be much harder for the huggers, kissers & extroverts who thrive on being with others.

        My sis here in Paris actually scolded her boyfriend, because he visited his close friends & didn’t forgo the cheek kissing hello traditional here, then went back home to his 80something grandma with health issues he lives with… I’ve never been more glad to be an introvert who likes being home, solitary walks in the city, already trained my acquaintances years ago on my no kissing/hugging/hand shaking policy (I am half envious of Japanese bowing & wish we could do a less elaborate version everywhere, or heck, stick to hand waving).

  45. oh man, all of these haha lock down comments… meanwhile, here i am in March 2021 and I have been quarantining for a year and 2 weeks.

    I work at a college in NYC and we went online and we haven’t been back to campus since. YOu have to apply for an appointment to even visit the campus…

    • I guess just in case someone else reads this next year…

      My current pandemic experience is centered around trying to get an appointment for a vaccine. Plus like double masking when I have to go indoors. And small panic just seeing larger groups of folks in one place. Seeing unmasked groups make me nervous. Even when I logically know the pictures were taken pre-pandemic
