The Grandmaster's Weird DiscipleCh213.2 - Intermission – Something odd

The man sat in the middle of his engraved circles.

The whole room – top to bottom – was one big mandala, just layers and layers of arrays that weren’t active but formed a beautiful image on the wooden walls, floor and ceiling. There was no window to the room, so the only source of lights were artificial fireflies hovering around, giving off the softest glow. 6pWKgA

It was unclear how much time passed in which the black-haired man just sat with his eyes closed and eyebrows furrowed, but at some point, the door behind him opened.

Shi Yue stepped inside, violet eyes lowered. He approached his husband with silent steps, squatting down and wrapping an arm around his shoulders. Xie Yi reacted to the touch, opening his eclipse eyes, and looking over with a smile.

“What’s bothering you?”, Shi Yue asked gently, placing their foreheads together.

Decades of living like this had let him know that it wasn’t unusual for Xie Yi to retreat to his favorite room for days, but centuries of experience let him know that this time, his husband was troubled. If he only sat in here instead of indulging in his obsession, something was likely off, and Shi Yue wasn’t going to let him worry alone. dTBNcD

The Transcendent blinked slowly, lowering his eyes to his hands.

He was often doing that recently. Shi Yue had a feeling Xie Yi wasn’t far from ascending, and while he wasn’t worried about being left behind, he was certainly tense about the change. Transcendents were still somewhat human, but Immortals were a different story.

“I have a bad feeling”, Xie Yi said, opening and closing his palms.

Xie Yi rarely said those words, but whenever he did, he was right.

That sort of animal instinct was something Shi Yue had never been able to match.

“What would it be?” Shi Yue cupped his husband’s cheek and turned it so that Xie Yi was facing him. He could see the worry in the other’s eyes, and it made him tense. “We are Transcendents, Ah Yi. You aren’t far from ascending, and neither am I. Our partners are powerful, and the world is peaceful. There is no war.” ch3dA8

“I know.”

Xie Yi scowled again. Yes, the Demonic Sect had been destroyed by them, and the righteous sects were currently at peace. Not that it mattered to him anymore – he couldn’t get involved either way.

“Who would hurt us? How?” Shi Yue kept asking. They had no children or disciples. There was no further family to protect.

“I don’t know what it is. I can’t explain it.” Xie Yi shook his head. “I should be relaxed – I can feel the other plane. I can hear it calling. But I’ve got such a bad feeling… Like things will break apart.” g7qY d

“Break? What will?”

Everything.” Xie Yi whispered the word. He looked at Shi Yue with a sort of despair. “You. Me. Everything, Yue. I feel like I’m dying.”

A chill went down Shi Yue’s spine. He quickly dragged Xie Yi into his arms, keeping him close. He felt the tight hug being returned.

“We will face it together”, he promised solemnly. “Whatever happens. I will be by your side and we will face it together.” b76hFk

Xie Yi hummed a response and closed his eyes.

There was nothing that could hurt him.

Surely, it was just his feeling being wrong for once.

Author’s Note 8h0XYC

Say, why do I always write things that hurt myself?
Ugh.
Original-Timeline Immortal-Yi knew that something bad was happening, and he couldn’t stop it.

This is a flashback of what happen in the original timeline where Xie Yi and Shi Yue became Immortals. As I said, this is basically a half-existing timeline and Immortals are already pretty detached from their plane, so Xie Yi could tell something was going very wrong. He had a feeling things were breaking apart, and they did.
The reason I added this intermission was for two reasons – number one, Xie Yi has always had a good feeling for things going wrong. Number two… There was always something inside him that knew Shi Yue was supposed to be at his side, because Shi Yue promised to be. He promised they’d face everything together. And only now, where Current-Xie-Yi has Shi Yue back, does he feel comfortable again.

Now it’s as it’s supposed to be.
With Shi Yue as his husband,
with Mingtian alive and happy,
with a body that wasn’t broken by the Demonic Sect.
Now, finally, things are back on track.

  1. ? This novel doesn’t have a bad ending right? I will cry buckets if it is a bad ending. Geez, author, the emotional roller coaster is too fast. Oh god, nothing bad happens.

    Thank you for the chapter
