Dao Of The Salted FishCh66 - Who invited you?

After leaving the Golden Sun Sect, Lin Yijun had gone to where killings had started in his last life, in a mortal seaside town. As he crouched on the rooftop overlooking a dark street, he ruminated about what had happened in the past life.

In his past life, he had been here on another matter when a burst of resentful ghost qi had shot up into the air. The kind that happened when multiple people were murdered ruthlessly at the same time. Qtl0WG

Lin Yijun had immediately headed to the source, suspecting the work of a demonic cultivator or ferocious ghost. Instead, he found Zhou Sheng enshrouded in a haze of blood lust and using the mortals’ blood in a demonic ritual. Lin Yijun had been only able to disrupt part of it, while the rest of the blood blades shot out, twisting and turning through the streets before striking down dozens of people. The deaths filled the mortal town with negative qi and destructive ghosts.

Zhou Sheng, why—”

“They all deserve to die! You’ve killed people too!”

“I kill those who deserve to die. I don’t commit serial murders of mortals! Zhou Sheng, why did you use a demonic technique? You—” Jz0fOy

Zhou Sheng had laughed hollowly. “You don’t believe me at all. Well, Lin Yijun, I’m a Blood Sect cultivator now. Isn’t it obvious?”

And while Lin Yijun had a moment of shock, Zhou Sheng had escaped.

Why hadn’t Zhou Sheng gone to another sect? Or become, at worse, a rogue cultivator? But instead, he had murdered mortals and used their blood for a ritual. Instead, he had turned to demonic cultivation and that was inexcusable. There was no way to save him, ultimately culminating in them becoming enemies.

But in this second chance at life, Lin Yijun wanted to try. He wanted Zhou Sheng back. Out of all the people in the Sect, Zhou Sheng had been the one Lin Yijun liked most, the one who didn’t annoy him, at least in the beginning. He didn’t want to face him on the battlefield a second time.

Lin Yijun’s focus returned to the present. He tensed slightly when a group of roughly dressed men hurried through the dark street, but none of them were the to-be-murdered men, and none of them were Zhou Sheng.

Frowning, Lin Yijun spread his awareness. They should be approaching—

Lin Yijun’s eyes narrowed. He sensed Wen Zhihao’s aura nearby.

Wen Zhihao, who had lied to him. Lin Yijun still didn’t know how, given the magical treasure preventing lies. But there was something undeniably off about Wen Zhihao. Kmtv5l

It made a certain amount of sense that Wen Zhihao would affect this major incident, just as he affected Disciple Sun Fuyu’s fated qi deviation.

Disciple Sun Fuyu gave him a look of pity, though his face became polite again as he spoke, “Good evening to Senior Lin. We—”

“Why are you here?” Zhou Sheng interrupted, his lips curled up into a sneer.

Lin Yijun ignored Disciple Sun and stepped closer to Zhou Sheng. “What happened to you, Zhou Sheng? Why? I took you back to the Golden Sun Sect and you repay me like this?” 5drHzq

Zhou Sheng’s sneer became more pronounced. “I’m a Blood Cultivator. An evil demonic cultivator. What are you going to do about it? Look at me. I’ve now become a Nascent Soul cultivator, just like you. I told you that the Golden Sun’s style was not suitable for me.”

Lin Yijun grew cold. “Come back to the Sect with me. We’ll find a way to cleanse you. I will allow you to become a Golden Sun Sect disciple again.”

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“No.”

No? Don’t be disobedient, Zhou Sheng!” fVGrka

Zhou Sheng raised his polearm. Lin Yijun raised his sword. Their long black hair and robes fluttered as qi rushed around both of them, clashing violently.

Wen Zhihao’s forehead wrinkled as he shuffled back. The energy was very uncomfortable, and it might destroy the sound isolation talisman and wake up the children. He sighed as the two of them immaturely postured at each other. Neither of them made a move in favour of staring at each other with narrowed eyes.

If their stares had been filled with pink bubbles instead of tension, Wen Zhihao’s life would be much easier.

“Zhou Sheng, Senior Lin, do you two know each other?” he asked in a calming tone. 2j4WsO

Zhou Sheng gave a short, cold laugh. “Oh, we used to be friends. I trusted him…but he didn’t trust me.”

You’re the one who left the Sect! You’re the one who succumbed to the dark side! Maybe I was right not to trust you!” Lin Yijun’s face became thunderous. “Demonic cultivators are the bane of the earth and heavens! The law is made to be followed, yet that rabble would rather be selfish and cruel. How could you join them, Zhou Sheng?”

You’re the one who is selfish and cruel! You killed those people when I told you not to! You think everyone should be like you, that if someone can’t use a sword like you, they’re useless!”

“What are you talking about? You were clearly suited for sword cultivation! You were so close to advancing to Golden Core but then you entangled yourself up with useless thoughts! Why are you still weak-willed?!” RoHL3J

“Useless? Hah! You’re so privileged, so lucky, Senior Lin!”

“I worked and trained and cultivated! I don’t take shortcuts, unlike what you clearly have done!”

Wen Zhihao’s mouth turned into a thin annoyed line, and his sigh became heavier. “You’re both going to qi deviate at this point!”

“Of course not!” Lin Yijun snapped at him. He sensed Wen Zhihao’s aura trying to interfere with his own. He flung one imperious sleeve, pushing the interruptive qi back. rOugBb

Sun Fuyu stepped in front of his Wen-ge, glaring at Lin Yijun. Now, he didn’t disguise his look of pity and disgust. What senior? He didn’t deserve respect for shouting at Wen-ge like that!

“Senior Lin, you seem to be mistaken. Of course, we’re not going to kill them. They will be doing community service. They kidnapped those children. They’re slave traders. Did you want to save them? Are you a slave trader too, Senior Lin? Are you working with them?” Derision dripped from Sun Fuyu’s voice.

Lin Yijun suddenly felt as if the world had tilted wrong. “Of course not!” he blustered. “You were about to murder them and use their blood, weren’t you, Zhou Sheng?! Even if they’re slave traders, that doesn’t excuse you from using the demonic arts!”

Zhou Sheng’s lips pressed into a thin line. Anger and frustration bubbled in his stomach. Lin Yijun never listened to him. It was always him listening to Lin Yijun. That wasn’t friendship. That was Zhou Sheng being a servant, a slave, a dog. He could say a thousand words of excuses, but Lin Yijun wouldn’t care for a single one, because Lin Yijun was ‘always right’. gi7SaA

It was because Zhou Sheng had been a slave. He had mistaken the scraps of attention from Lin Yijun as the famed ‘friendship’. But in reality, Zhou Sheng still had no one.

“Senior Lin, you seem to be very mistaken. Zhou Sheng is a nice young man.” Wen Zhihao folded his arms in disapproval. “Politely asking for Senior Lin to think. Your sword can murder and take a life without consent just as well as blood cultivation. But Senior Lin, you do not have authority over Zhou Sheng’s body nor his blood. He may use blood cultivation, but does blood not run in your veins? You need that blood to help you move, to have you cultivate your sword. In a way, you also blood cultivate, Senior Lin.”

Zhou Sheng swallowed heavily, eyes turning a little sour towards Wen Zhihao.

Lin Yijun clenched his fist. “It’s not the same!DkEPnp

Sun Fuyu scoffed. Wen-ge was right, and Senior Lin was wrong!

“Senior Lin, we are dealing satisfactorily with this matter. We do not need your help,” Sun Fuyu said. “I’m sure Senior Lin is busy with Sect matters, especially after our mission. Senior Lin does not need to worry.”

Lin Yijun could see the ‘out’ that Disciple Sun was hinting out, but his face had still been lost in front of three people who were all weaker than him. “Tch. If that is the case, forgive me for caring! Go down the demonic path, if you wish!” He turned to Zhou Sheng. “I’m disappointed in you, Zhou Sheng. But I’ll give you one last chance to come back with me.”

Zhou Sheng’s eyes were deep and dark. “And I’m disappointed in myself for not realising that you never considered me your friend at all. Go away, Lin Yijun.” AznPF1

An inexplicable pain filled Lin Yijun’s chest. He ignored it in favour of scowling at them. “I’ll see you two back at the Sect later,” he said coldly. With that, Lin Yijun stepped on his sword and flew away.

*wipes off sweat* I thought the last chapter was hard to write, but this was also really hard! pBcmEx

Wen Zhihao: Aiya, why is the relationship between Zhou Sheng and Senior Lin filled with so much dog blood? Poor protagonists, ba. I’m glad I don’t have any misunderstandings with Sun Fuyu, we started dating so smoothly.

Sun Fuyu: *thinking* Wen-ge and I sleep together…we’re basically married now!

Readers: Heheheh. “No” misunderstandings, sureAq5MTX

  1. Wen Zhihao: we are already married? Great! I don’t need to deal with a wedding ceremony and all the hassle to prepare for it

  2. Darn it. I’m so tired of Lin Yijun. I should have waited a few weeks instead of following updates as soon as they come.

I want the return of amazement at Wen Zhihao’s unintentional feats. I want demonic beasts. I want dog food. I want fluff.

  3. The difference is that Wen Zhihao and Sun Fuyu have only funny misunderstandings while this unfortunate pair has the wrong type of misunderstanding pshahah

  4. Lin Yijun filled with righteousness: You are wrong! LISTEN TO ME! I AM RIGHT!!

Sun Fuyu: Pftttt… Are you delusional!? Its Wen-ge who is right, obviously!

Me: calmy takes out a baseball bat and hits Lin Yijun on his head so he can bring it back from wherever he has shoved it in .

    Thanks for the Chapter!

  5. Ugh, Lin Yijun is such a hypocrite!

Please make him face-slapped NUMB. Make him feel like a total joke. PUNISH HIM.

Readers: Welp, we know them married since the rings scene. Next dog food please.

  6. aww I admit i feel a little bad for Lin Yijun at the end there.

    “He wanted Zhou Sheng back.”

“An inexplicable pain filled Lin Yijun’s chest.”

    Very sad sentences 🙁

You gotta fix your attitude mister! So you can have the pink bubbles instead of tension!

    I believe in this CP!

    Thank you for the chapter!

  7. I don’t like this Lin Yijun guy at all..

He’s so disgusting haha.. always think he know it all and that he’s always right.

Go away pls, the futher the better, don’t pollute the air okay? I wish you got qi deviate.

    Thanks for the chapter btw~❤

    • But as this chapter shows, he has finally fully experienced being wrong. Wen Zhihao would prefer him not to qi deviate, it’ll mess with his sleeping 😉

      Thanks for reading!

  8. Aiya that’s one hot blooded cultivator, why am I getting antagonist vibes from Lin Yijun. Maybe our Salted Fish finally met someone he can’t rehabilitate ?

  9. I know that Lin Yijun is supposed to represent a pretty typical xianxia regression mc but goddamn, I wanna hit him in the head. He’s like hypocritical broken record that cries out “INJUSTICE” while committing extrajudicial killing. While I don’t dislike Lin Yijun, the man just needs to take a step back or step down from his pedestal ‘cuz I swear to god, if he doesn’t get it in his head that authoritative respect doesn’t equal personal respect, I will bonk him with a mace. Thanks for the chapter.

    • “Lin Yijun could see the ‘out’ that Disciple Sun was hinting out, but his face had still been lost in front of three people who were all weaker than him.” Lin Yijun is very prideful and it seems that his concern over Zhou Sheng does not exceed his pride. Also I feel like Lin Yijun just absolutely ignored the children except for one moment when Wen-ge pointed it out.

      • Given that Lin Yijun doesn’t really care for people below Nascent Soul, he similarly doesn’t care for these mortal children. His just does missions because it’s his duty, just like how fighting against all demonic cultivators is “his duty”… Basically, he is really quite stunted emotionally.

Thank goodness for our Wen-ge, huh?

    • Snap, missed opportunity for Zhou Sheng to literally hit him on the head for all the readers 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, Lin Yijun really, really needs to learn some things about personal relationships and respect…

  10. I forgot to comment on this earlier, but it’s sad that Zhou Sheng isn’t wrong about his relationship with Lin Yijun since Lin Yijun doesn’t even see him as an equal… just the person that he tolera–likes the most. 😢

At least he has Wen Zhihao as a friend now (and possibly Sun Fuyu).

  11. zhou sheng was absolutely right about one thing: lin yijun is privilliged. also he lacks something called “thinking capacity” and “listen to others” 😐

thank you for the chapter 🥰

  12. I think the side characters are having a lan zhan and wei ying problem and we know how they turned out lol. 😏

  13. He he he~ misunderstandings are the best! But that Lin is so annoying!! Care to HEAR what I’m saying buddy? I have a stepmother like this, it’s so tiring trying to talk to her, she doesn’t listen and all kinds of misunderstandings occurs, … It’s tiring just ti write about this…

    Thanks for the chapter!

    • I’m glad you like some of the misunderstandings 🤣

You know, this is probably why Lin Yijun doesn’t have friends….he only has people who grudgingly respect him/want to hug his thigh due to how strong he is…

  14. Wen Zhihao and Sun Fuyu only have cute misunderstandings, not weird dog-blood dramas! I’m sure Wen Zhihao is pretty relieved by that.

(I love that both of them are 100% on Zhou Sheng’s side. Sun Fuyu even gets snarky!)

    • Wen Zhihao is definitely relieved 🤣🤣🤣 Dog blood drama is too stressful! Not for a salted fish!

I’m glad you like that they’re on Zhou Sheng’s side! It’s about time that Zhou Sheng has people who will back him up 😊

  15. I’m preparing for ZS to abuse LY after they’re on good terms… I just kinda need that after so much disappointing actions from him.

  16. Thanks for the chapter! I think the only way kitten or puppy therapy will work for LY is if they get a demonic beast the size of a van to immobilize him long enough for the fluff to take effect… I had one dog who used to sit on over excited puppies until they would calm down. Probably need to use the same tactics here.

  17. OH COME ON! WZH should just give him mountain of lightning tribulation material in the form of advance math. Make that high, mighty, and righteous LYJ doubting life and going into seclusion for real! ԅ ( ͒ ۝ ͒ )ᕤ

Thanks for the occasional dog blood~~

  18. Why can’t Lin Yijun just open his mind and listen?! I feel so bad for Zhou Sheng. Lin Yijun you jerk!

Our Salted Fish needs to save the day again, please educate the big man-child later. At least Xiao Fuyu listens to his Wen-ge.

    Thanks for the chapter!

  19. I understand why most people don’t like Lin Yijun but I really like his stubborn and closed-minded personality because that makes the novel even more richer in terms of characters.

It’s not easy to change people’s thinking, even more people like Lin Yijun who were raised as someone who is always right and is recognized as a perfect role model. If I were a cop and I saw my best friend joining a gang, wouldn’t I insist on getting him out? It’s like something bad was already supposed to happen, maybe that’s how Lin Yijun feels? Because if Zhou Sheng was just someone he just put up with I don’t think he would spend two lifetimes chasing him. He just didn’t understand is fellings yet. But I hope he opens his eyes and becomes a suitable companion for our dear Zhou Sheng, and a r eally hope for a scene with Lin Yijun crying, I bet Zhou Sheng would be in shock! Thanks bafflinghaze for this amazing novel ( ˘ ³˘)❤ and sorry for my poor english (T▽T).

    • I really feel sorry for Lin Yijun. He really does care for Zhou Sheng, but he doesn’t know what he’s really feeling or how to express it. 🙁

Being the darling of the Golden Sun Sect has done Lin Yijung no favors. A tradition of uncritical thinking and blind obedience combined with extreme talent has injured him. He has turned from the well-meaning seedling befriending a street kid into a self-righteous hero. Problem is no one has taught him about feelings and emotions.

Poor thing is so angry because he’s terrified for his, ahem, Best Friend, and wants to make sure that Zhou Sheng doesn’t die or get killed for his cultivation methods.

LYJ is already on the way to qi deviation. I hope he has an emotional breakdown and a good, long cry before that happens.

      • “A tradition of uncritical thinking and blind obedience combined with extreme talent has injured him.” Exactly! even though the truth is in front of him accepting isn’t the same as throwing everything he found true in the trash? this cannot happen in the blink of an eye.

I liked the friction between the two, because Lin Yijung won’t easily yield to Zhou Sheng and he has the ability to say a big “NO” to him, which is pretty hard to happen with othes MCs, like, they’re two Alphas fighting for leadership (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Looking forward to his emotional breakdownO(≧∇≦)O.

        • 😆😆😆😆😆 I’m glad you like the friction between them! Two Alphas fighting…. 😂😂😂 Zhou Sheng didn’t use to be so alpha-like, but he is now, huh 😂

    • Thank you for your comment! 🥺 Yes, yes! Lin Yijun really does fail with understanding his own feelings, let alone others’, but there is hope for him! Thank you so much again!

      • I’m seeing the account for the chapters go up and….. I’m so happy ✧⁺⸜(●˙▾˙●)⸝⁺✧

Eagerly waiting to know what will happen with these two (LY/ZS)

Thank you for translating “I Made 300000 a Year in Ancient Times” ( ˘ ³˘)❤

        • 🙈🙈🙈 yes, you’re right that the total estimated chapter count keeps going up.

Thank you for reading! And you’re welcome~ (though to be honest I have ideas for a better ancient time transmigration story XD)

  20. The only reason Wen-ge isn’t pushing hard for marriage is weddings are a pain in the ass. Everyone has finally accepted that the two are inseparable. If he and Xiao Yu share the same room long enough, everyone is going to assume they are married and no wedding needed!

Whew! Wedding averted–so much unnecessary work avoided!

(Wen-ge’s attitude will totally change once he realizes that Xiao Yu really wants a wedding with all the trappings. You know Wen-ge will break his back to have his Xiao Yu feel happy, loved, and appreciated.)

  21. This chapter was very stressful. Going to wait a bit so I can binge and read through this difficult situation when they return back to the sect…. 😣😣

  22. Both of these real protag/antagonist characters have their faults. Lin Yujun is a bit too rigid and blindly righteous and Zhou Sheng is a bit too edgelord. Can’t easily communicate and see eye to eye. Great for drawn out emotional drama, but unfortunately for them the story belongs to our patron saint of laziness lol.

    • Edgelord Zhou Sheng….🤣🤣🤣🤣 Well, he’s basically over being “nice” and does what he wants now 🤣🤣 (except when childcare teacher Wen Zhihao says No.)

Hm, the emotional drama in this story is not nearly as long as other angsty stories? Or so I hope 🤣🤣🤣

  23. So, author dude, you know we readers love you very much, right? I mean, what I’m trying to say is—can we delete this cannon fodder from existence!! I mean it’s gonna take one hell of a redemption arch to make me not feel distasteful towards this dude so why not just pair poor baby Shengsheng with one of the other kids in the day care, ya know? Thanks for taking the time to acknowledge my comment

    • I like Lin Yijung, even though he’s acting kinda stupid right now. He’s a great contrast to our salted fish.

Lin Yijung’s been trained to behave this way. I want him to have a chance to grow up into the person that our Shengsheng deserves.

      • gotta say, you’re not wrong, I totally get you. But my heart aches for Shengsheng!! I can’t wait to see how the author redeems LYJ (I’m expecting many heartfelt apologies and a lot of spoiling for Shengsheng, thank you very much)

  24. Lin Yijun, Lin Yijun… I don’t know if this is love or obsession! You can’t go on controlling people like that! And so hypocrite! Ahhhhhh, I don’t know if our child Zhou Sheng should even give you any second of his time 😕

Thankfully Wen Zhihao came, or this story would repeat over and over again no matter how many times those two went back on time. But seriously… Such a disappointing guy. I hope kitten therapy can make him less condescending 😤

Author-san, thank you for the chapter ❤

  25. eh… 😒 LY…

  26. I love this chapter! Its so important for Zhou Sheng to realize what’s unhealthy about his relationship with Lin YiJun. So many people I know just keep thinking they are bad without realizing that they just have a toxic/abusive person in their life. I hope Lin YiJun can heal, but Zhou Sheng doesn’t have to forgive or put up with it. Anyway, thanks for the chapter! Really important message ❤

  27. WOW ZS deserves so much better. Lin is such a dick, I can’t root for him. He’s just a complete douchebag and I kinda wanna kick him. Hard. Our fish and his sun are amazing and wonderful and I adore the way they are handling this. I spent Lin’s whole rant and refusal to look at ANYTHING ever and just- “Are you a complete moron? Of course you are, what are we asking” was what went through my head the whole time. Just… Lin needs a sound thrashing and to be sat in the naughty corner. frowns

  28. “Come back to the Sect with me.”

Ehem ehem… maybe he’s not to bad. I believe in you author, give him a nice slap of reality and pain so he could realize how wring he is and have a heart-felt character development and we all could be happy and free. I did that without any commas or period bwahahahaha.

  29. Actually… I always on the demonic cultivators side just because I find them do their cultivation righteously in their own crooked ways.. at least not like the so called righteous cultivators that cultivated justly to find killing was the only way.. sogh

  30. Lin Yijun is like a more conceited, self-righteous and pompous version of Lan Wangji, wanting to bring his demonic cultivator ~~boy~~friend back to his sect for “rehabilitation” but without the sense of underlying friendship and support…
