Mythical Creature Series: Ah-JiangChapter 11

Edited by Sky

Ah-Jiang was mad. 9ue0oI

In the past few years, the two of them acted like the casual husband and wife that you could find in any household. There were times when the two were joined at the hips and times when they would be as peaceful as a calm stream. During times of boredom, they would bicker a little—though such occasions were scarce. Constable Shi had an excellent temper towards Ah-Jiang, but the latter had occasional tantrums. Nevertheless, he always thought of Shi Tou as a child. No matter how old Shi Tou’er would get, he loved calling him “Little Rock, Little Rock” relentlessly.

Shi Tou had almost forgotten that Ah-Jiang was still a ghost in the end. He was a hundred-year-old malicious ghost that was formed by absorbing resentful aura from his surroundings. After all, mortals and ghosts walked on contrasting paths. Sometimes he felt like he couldn’t understand Ah-Jiang’s mindset, but that wasn’t because Ah-Jiang had an odd temper. It was because he was still a living being. Ghosts differed; they were independent, especially the ones who cultivated demonically. It gave even more freedom to run rampant.

Ah-Jiang didn’t give him a chance to reason with him this time. Once Constable Shi opened his eyes, he found himself inside the ghost palace. He lay on his back with both hands restrained to the bedpost by gold chains, Ah-Jiang’s breathing could be heard next to his ear while his chest swung before his eyes. A cold item hammered in and out of his body. Shi Tou was furious, and he bit down onto his lip to not allow a single sound from slipping out.

It seemed like Ah-Jiang had been waiting for this day for a long time, and now he finally got a reason to imprison the mortal beside him. On the first night, he played different tricks on Shi Tou’er’s body. Whenever Shi Tou was about to faint from exhaustion, he would transfer a shred of vitality to him. He would wait for Shi Tou to wake up in a daze and go again. He did everything in his power to force  Shi Tou to promise he’ll never search for Zhao Zheng again. OirZpL

Despite being locked up in such a manner for multiple days, Constable Shi’s mouth wouldn’t loosen. That was just how he was, when he got stubborn, he was more indestructible than a rock.

Ah-Jiang locked Shi Tou’s whole body within the Ghost King Palace this time, and since he was in his human body, he had to eat and had to stay warm. Except for times where Ah-Jiang would go out to get some food, he barely left the bedside.

Constable Shi used about every single tactic in the book, going as far as refusing to eat in the end. Ah-Jiang transferred vitality to him a few times and yet his body uncontrollably lost weight.

Ah-Jiang finally snapped, and for the first time he spoke to Shi Tou using a heartless tone, “If you don’t eat, then I’m gonna kill that guy.”

PR4aT

“You…you are unreasonable!”

Shi Tou’s face was red from anger and his scolding became clumsy, “Did you forget what the east god said?! If you, if you kill Zhao Zheng, then all the good deeds you did recently will go to  waste again!”

But Ah-Jiang smiled ghastly in response, stunningly beautiful, “I’m already a malicious ghost, to begin with. I only did good deeds because I had no other choice. But Little Rock shouldn’t forget: to accomplish justice doesn’t necessarily mean one has to do what’s good.”

“You…” Shi Tou looked at him in shock; he didn’t think Ah-Jiang thought this way. Unfortunately, Constable Shi only met with kind people ever since he was young. With his life full of blessings, there were naturally more honest people around him. Even if he became extra cautious, he would still be unable to see through Zhao Zheng’s plan. He thought that other people were all like him, that the humans’ true nature was kindness in the end. FNQSiL

Ah-Jiang saw his complexion change slightly,  and he clenched his fist discreetly. He finally spoke the truth, and he knew Little Rock would undoubtedly be extremely disappointed in him. If it had occurred in the past where someone like Zhao Zheng had never appeared, then he could’ve hidden this from Little Rock for his whole life. So his life would be joyful and untainted by vulgar truths.

Shi Tou was scared that he might actually kill Zhao Zheng, so he ended up obliging and ate. Now that Ah-Jiang had gotten a hold of his weakness, any time when Constable Shi didn’t cooperate in the following days, he would use the same threat. Like this, the two’s hearts flew further and further apart. Slowly, Shi Tou thought that the being before him wasn’t the Ah-Jiang he knew.

Half a month passed, and he knew nothing about what’s happened on the ground. Did Zhao Zheng worry because he couldn’t find him to return to the capital together? How is the Yamen without him; are his brothers of the Yamen slacking off…

Shi Tou delved into silence while Ah-Jiang stayed by his bedside quietly. He could go on without a single word, sit there, and stare at Shi Tou for a whole day. It was as if he was satisfied as long as his Little Rock was there, no matter the mortal’s joy or sorrow. CVc41D

That night, Constable Shi slept in extreme unease. He dreamed of the storming night from years ago where a palace servant had gone up to the bed with yellow curtains. On the bed was a pair of soft and diligent babies. She looked around cautiously and got out the damp handkerchief, readied to suffocate one of them. Who knew the one she chose would suddenly open his bright starry eyes, wave his limbs around curiously, and laugh jauntily at the servant? The servant couldn’t help but reach out a hand to play with him. A sign of sympathy flashed across her face. Suddenly, a sound came from behind and she hurriedly took the kid into her embrace and escaped through the secret passage…

“Son—my son—” A female’s voice followed after. Each one of her calls was sorrowful enough to pierce through one’s heart.

Thunder struck near the emperor’s advisor’s estate in the capital.

Ghost fire scattered throughout the golden palace. A fangshi in black and white robes sat on a zafu as he mumbled continuously. In front of him was a table with a tortoiseshell, the bones of a beast, some bone ashes and such on top of it. The last thing there was the lanugo from the year when the pair of twins were brought into this world, accompanied by their eight characters and geng post. When it was time, they quivered alongside the sound of lighting. A young male servant behind him led a black dog there and pulled out a dagger, jabbing it straight into the dog’s neck. After he had cut the dog’s neck off, he filled up a bowl with fresh black dog blood and presented it to the fangshi. jzpQ07

This person was Yuzhen Shanren, the current emperor’s advisor. He received the bowl, dipped two fingers in, and drew a spell array with it quickly. Holding the huge bowl, he drank and held the fishy dog blood in his mouth. Once finished with his unorthodox spell, the heaven’s eye opened!

At the same time, Shi Tou abruptly opened his eyes.

He turned stiffly and heard a crisp clanking sound. Upon seeing the gold-colored handcuff, he smirked and yanked once to break free from his restraints.

Ah-Jiang usually leaves at night for about a shichen or two. Right now, there were only a few little ghosts guarding outside. The door swung open and all of the ghosts turned in surprise, “Guye!” IepdHY

The few that were left here had a pretty good relationship with Constable Shi, which was why Ah-Jiang could rest assured and have them look after him. They were all in shock now and were just about to float to him for a greeting, but one of the sharp-eyed ghosts caught the bloodthirsty red gleam within Shi Tou’s eyes. He instantly yelled, “That isn’t guye!”

Those words were spoken too late. “Shi Tou” gathered energy within his palm. Those ghosts were unprepared to dodge, and with a swing of his arm, they dispersed with shrill cries.

By the time Ah-Jiang had raced back, the Ghost King Palace’s appearance was unrecognizable. He searched for Shi Tou in the palace and when he saw him lying on the ground, he felt as if his heart was gouged out. He scurried up to embrace Shi Tou and just as he was about to check his meridian, he heard the sudden shouting of a little soul who hasn’t been dispersed completely yet, “──My king! Let go of him, quick!”

But the warning came too late. The man within his embrace suddenly opened his eyes and spat out a mouthful of black dog blood on him! qY oAP

The yang energy of a black dog’s blood was extremely thick and it was commonly used to get rid of evil and ghosts. For this kind of spell, it multiplied its power. Even Ah-Jiang would have to fear it a little. With the black blood splayed on his face, it beelined straight for his Tianling and a shrill ghost roar was let out. “Shi Tou” took a step back and quickly spoke a spell. Ah-Jiang backed away, trembling as his two hands covered his face. Where blood splattered on his face, blue smoke billowed. His face was mangled.

The God of the Unorthodox appeared and with him came hundreds of swords unsheathing itself, surrounding the Ghost Lord in a three feet circumference. Thick metal chains lashed out from his waist area, creating webs all around him, making it so Ah-Jiang was immobile. sAHZIb

“Shi Tou” laughed aloud with his face tilted towards the sky, “Hahahaha! Jiang Yanyun, don’t waste your energy! Even if the east god was here, he would still need forty-nine days to break through this barrier. This long of a time is enough for me to cultivate into a Mo. By then, what will a little ghost king like you do to me?! Hahaha!”

The ghost king let out a raging roar from hell, “Hua She──” C85Jbg

When “Shi Tou’s” original form was exposed, he didn’t seem surprised and bowed his hands while snickering viciously, “Good eyes, Ghost Lord!”

Ah-Jiang grabbed onto the chains and his two hands dissolved to bare bones by touching the barrier. He roared frighteningly, “If you dare to touch a single hair of his, I, Jiang Yanyun, will definitely make you pay back a hundredfold!!!”

“Jiang Yanyun, you can’t even protect yourself now, what can you do to me?! Heehee, you might as well just wait until I cultivate into a Mo God and lay under my power!” A clot of black mist swallowed “Shi Tou” up. Ah-Jiang tried to reach out as much as he could, but he couldn’t even graze the other’s hair.

Thunder roared from the sky and river water rushed madly. The citizens near Pu Jiang’s pier watched from far away. Some older ones bowed to the ground, trembling with fear as they clasped their hands together and spoke, “The River Lord is enraged! Enraged──!” UsXiSK

When Shi Tou woke up, he was already lying inside of a cart. He saw Zhao Zheng sitting across from him and asked confusingly, “I…how am I here?”

Zhao Zheng held onto his hand. “My shizun saved you and now we’re heading to the capital. We will only take two days to arrive.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

“Your shizun…?” Shi Tou lowered his head and thought deeply but his memories were all a blur. He suddenly turned and got up. Squeezing Zhao Zheng’s hands in his own, he hurriedly asked, “How did you guys get me out? What about Ah-Jiang? Did he trouble you guys at all?”

Zhao Zheng’s eyes stilled a bit and he recalled his shizun’s words, and responded with a smile on his face, “My brother, do not worry. My shizun is extremely powerful. Naturally, that ghost king can’t harm us. TODRog

“Then…did he do anything to you guys?  Didi, listen to your gege. Even though Ah-Jiang is a malicious ghost, he doesn’t harm people anymore, your shizun…”

“My brother, calm down a bit. The Ghost Lord of East can’t be beaten that easily, my shizun only sealed his movement temporarily. Wait a few days and the barrier will unlock itself.”

Zhao Zheng saw how nervous he was and couldn’t help but ask, “Brother, you and that Ghost Lord, what exactly is the relationship between you two?”

Constable Shi stiffened, unsure if he should say anything. V9aZeu

“If you aren’t willing to say it, I won’t force you to…”

Zhao Zheng thought that the other would definitely not tell him. Who thought Shi Tou would gaze at him and speak so freely, “Zhao Zheng, you and I are family so I really shouldn’t hide this fact from you. To be honest…Ah-Jiang and I had a yin wedding.”

Zhao Zheng was shocked upon hearing those words and didn’t know what to say!

Shi Tou let out a long sigh and explained the whole situation from beginning to end. As Zhao Zheng listened, he began to clench his teeth. He shouted, “That ghost king forced you to…marry, marry him, this is truly absurd! My brother, don’t be afraid, my shizun will help you rid of that malicious ghost soon!” 87ErXY

“Please don’t!” Shi Tou was struck dumb by his words and quickly stopped him, “Ah-Jiang didn’t force me, I, I…in this situation, I also have responsibilities. Also, the relationship between Ah-Jiang and I…I’m willing to be with him.”

Zhao Zheng stared at him in disbelief. Despite having a touch of awkwardness in his confession, warm colors danced in his eyes. He was no stranger to these types of eyes, he was a self-proclaimed romantic, and he didn’t lack people who admired him. Which person didn’t look at him with such a gaze? Shi Tou and that Ghost Lord had a cut-sleeve relationship, this in Zhao Zheng’s eyes was even more absurd. He didn’t understand why he was so furious, he yelled as he swung his sleeve, “You, you and that malicious ghost have…you! You are a shame to the Zhao family!”

Zhao Zheng was mad to the extreme and he sputtered a string of nonsense.

Shi Tou knew it was hard for him to accept so he smiled bitterly on the surface, “You don’t need to worry. This time, following you back to the capital is only so that I could burn incense sticks for mother. I’ve never thought about returning to the imperial family. Afterward…it’s all up to you if you accept me as a family member or not. If you think that I disgrace you, then just act as if I was dead I will not blame you.” vMp4Wi

Zhao Zheng heard his words and felt a dull, yet uncomfortable pain in his chest. He was about to continue to interrogate him. Could it be that in Shi Tou’s heart, he, the almighty Jin Lord can’t even be compared to a ghost?! But just as the words built up in his mouth, he did not have the face to let them out of his mouth; he would look like a joke if he acted like so. Biting down on his lip in anger, he left the cart with a wave of his sleeve. He ordered someone to lead a horse over here and he leaped onto it.

“Your highness, you can sit in the cart and I’ll ride it.” Shi Tou disregarded the weakness in his limbs and only wanted to leave the cart.

Zhao Zheng ignored him and with a swing of his horsewhip, he was up at the front of the cart line. Shi Tou looked at his back from far away and could only give up.

Zhao Zheng was fast on his horse and as the cold wind scratched his face like tiny blades. His mind gradually cleared up but he felt even more confused. Who cared who Shi Tou was with, why was he mad? Zhao Zheng pulled on the reins and clenched his teeth. Now that he knew that a malicious ghost resided in Shi Tou’s heart, the resentments were hard to disperse. Just by speeding off for a short while, he felt his heart tightening in uneasiness. After a few coughs, he found a few marks of blood on his palm. 7fXovn

He had cast a spell with his shizun just a while ago, that was how they created the web barrier successfully to trap the ghost king. He’d paid a great amount for it too. His primordial energy was depleted and yet he doesn’t know how long the barrier can hold him.

Zhao Zheng’s eyes slowly darkened, as the heir, he can’t be distracted by trivial matters. Yet, Shi Tou has been messing him up and making him confused about his decisions. His hidden danger should be disposed of as soon as possible.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Even though that was what he told himself, Zhao Zheng couldn’t control himself. He was cold to Constable Shi during the journey but privately, he ordered for no one to act ill-mannered towards him. Good thing Shi Tou’s body was healed very fast; only after sleeping in the cart for half a day, he was able to ride a horse. So, after one and a half days of the rushed journey, they arrived at the capital.

Zhao Zheng seemed to be energetic as he entered the city gate. There were horsemen in the front opening a path for him and guards were behind to protect him. Citizens in the streets of the capital gathered around to watch and even some bold ladies would come up and toss flowers. What a sight to behold. Constable Shi didn’t want to attract any attention so he was changed into a guard’s uniform and covered half of his face by wearing the uniform hat. J6seth

The Jin Lord Estate was located at the most luxurious district of the capital: the east city alley. Zhao Zheng is the imperial prince that the emperor favors the most right now, so the estate he got was naturally a glorious one with high authority. Right after getting off his horse, he dragged Shi Tou into his estate that he called the “Sky Mountain Mortal Realm.” His impatient expression made it seem like he had already forgotten he was mad at Shi Tou for the past two days. One moment he would be taking Shi Tou to look at the fake mountain and pond in his backyard, another moment he would pull him to the banquet hall that was said to be able to contain thousands of people. Before they were done looking around, he ordered someone to get the white tiger from the Hundred Beast Garden, but the servant of the imperial prince’s estate told him that the white tiger was borrowed by Prince Kang.

Prince Kang was the third imperial prince and daily, he and Zhao Zheng were against each other. Zhao Zheng heard about the white tiger and was about to lash out, but Shi Tou comforted him.

“It’s not like there won’t be any more chances to see it, don’t get so worked up. The tiger…who cares if they’re white or yellow and black striped; aren’t they all just the same?” Shi Tou scratched his head.

Hearing his statement, Zhao Zheng then felt that there was no need to be so mad and waved his hand, ordering for servants to go and prepare food. c1Cqdy

The butler of the estate scurried away in fear and secretly turned his head to check Shi Tou out a bit. Before he had the chance to see his face clearly, he was shouting confusingly inside. Not only had the imperial prince liked the white tiger a lot for a long time, but now, it was also taken away by Prince Kang. The imperial prince usually would’ve been worked up over it for a while and not let it pass him this easily. Who knew that this person could calm Zhao Zheng with just a few words.

The chef within Zhao Zheng’s estate was bought out from the palace. He intentionally ordered them to make a whole table of fine delicacies that could only be found in the palace. Each time when a new dish was brought up to the table, he was always able to point at it with his fan and talk about its origin with Shi Tou.

Shi Tou knew that he was a kid at heart so he went along with everything he said. He was able to tell that even if Zhao Zheng was quite sly, his nature was quite pure. Zhao Zheng was also prideful, stubborn. He knew that Zhao Zheng was trying to show off all the luxuries within the capital to him as quickly as possible, which made his days here harder.

Except for the two brothers in the room, there were no outsiders. Even the servants were dismissed. Zhao Zheng picked up bits of food for the other and there was coincidentally a dish of black sweet pig trotter there. Zhao Zheng took one bite and put it down, saying, “Yours is better.” gZ0GsO

“If you still want to eat it, gege will make them for you some days later.”

Zhao Zheng showed a bright smile upon hearing the words, as if a spring breeze had flit by his face, “Those were gege’s words, you can’t take them back!”

Shi Tou heard him call himself gege and it sounded more affectionate than how all his other brothers say it. All the unhappiness from recent days dissipated. He even ate one more bowl of rice than his usual serving.

At night, he rested at the room beside Zhao Zheng’s room. Zhao Zheng seemed to be in an excellent mood and chatted with him for half of the night, telling him about all the goods of the capital city. But Shi Tou felt a bit uneasy while listening to those words: his eyelids have been jumping since two days ago. When Zhao Zheng became exhausted, he didn’t go back to his room. Instead, he squeezed himself onto Shi Tou’s raden bed and passed out. fnylmd

Constable Shi had two hands behind his head and just like how it’s been for the past few days, it was hard for him to sleep.

He knew that he missed the Old Ban Head and his brothers of the Yamen. He missed the whole An Ling…and once he closed his eyes, Ah-Jiang’s voice floated through his sea of thoughts.

Ah-Jiang, Ah-Jiang…just thinking of this name made pain pierce his chest.

Once he pays his respects to his mother, he will bid goodbye to Zhao Zheng and return as soon as possible. He doesn’t know how Ah-Jiang is doing. Could he still be mad at him? Who knows if the other would make him kneel on an abacus, pick different colored beans apart, or sleep in the kitchen after he comes back? Would Ah-Jiang still be willing to forgive him…? ACxsGd

For a few more days, Zhao Zheng took Shi Tou to different places to play, just like what they did in An Ling in the beginning.

Constable Shi had his first taste of the Dragon’s Serous Fluid wine that cost hundreds of taels with just one mouthful. He ate fat choy for the first time and saw the openness and money-wasting habits of the capital’s landed gentry for the first time as well. Zhao Zheng also had a group of friends, and according to what Zhao Zheng had said privately, they were mere “friends.”   But when they bumped into each other coincidentally, Zhao Zheng didn’t want Shi Tou to get too close with them. He chatted with them lazily, quickly passed them by, and snickered with curled lips. “Don’t get too close to them, they’re dirty!”

Story translated by Chrysanthemum Garden.

Shi Tou smiled and didn’t respond. The way that Zhao Zheng spoke these days seemed to have any intention of keeping him here for the long-term. He didn’t want to take the fun away from Zhao Zheng, so he didn’t mention anything about visiting their mother’s grave.

Then, half a month had passed in the blink of an eye and Zhao Zheng seemed to be avoiding the topic on purpose. Even when Shi Tou tried to start the question, he would change the topic speedily. D4g9yh

Then at the end of the month, Constable Shi couldn’t hold it anymore. While Zhao Zheng was getting off the imperial court, he quickly asked, “When can we go see mother’s grave?”

He didn’t beat around the bush at all, leaving no room for Zhao Zheng to change the topic. The other’s face instantly turned gloomy as he sat down and had a servant massage his leg. Shi Tou didn’t know what he was thinking and the other chuckled coldly. “What are you rushing for? Are you just gonna pay respect to mother and then return to your poor village that’s in the middle of nowhere?”

“Yes,” Shi Tou didn’t hide it at all as he replied with a nod.

Zhao Zheng’s eyes widened, “You…!” He slammed his teacup down and bit his lip in anger. He had nowhere to let his anger out, so he just kicked the servant who was serving him to let it out. rx5TIP

“This temper of yours──” Shi Tou’s brows furrowed and just as he was about to help the servant out, Zhao Zheng spoke coldly again, “Aren’t you impatient about leaving? What gives you the right to act like my senior?! Don’t think that I don’t know…!” He stopped himself there with a slight change of expression. He stood up and left angrily with a toss of his sleeve.

When it was nighttime, Zhao Zheng’s personal servant came over and said that the imperial prince wanted to invite him to go on a boat restaurant.

Shi Tou didn’t know about the other’s plan and once he got there, he saw many different types of men and women within the golden boat. There was the odor of strong liquor adrift in the spring night. Then, he found out the boat was a high-classed firework place within the capital. Since he was already here, he could not back off now. Plus, Zhao Zheng wasn’t the only one sitting there so if he turned away and left without a word, it would probably shame Zhao Zheng and make the other despise him even more.

“Sir, come and sit over here.” A beautiful female pushed him to sit down and he wore a troubled face as he rejected the cups of wine those girls poured for him. R9w lY

Shi Tou, oh, Shi Tou. His illness of becoming muddled when seeing beauty still wasn’t cured after so many years. He turned to look at Zhao Zheng, who sat at a higher seat, for help, only to see that Zhao Zheng was hugging the gorgeous head flower while having a few women on the side to feed him wine. The corner of his eyes seemed to be glancing at him in a faint smile.

Constable Shi ended up getting forced down a few mouthfuls of liquor and looked extremely pathetic. The other young landed gentry masters saw and they were entertained greatly by it. Then they started saying, “Whoever can get Sir Shi drunk will be rewarded with hundred taels of gold!”

But Zhao Zheng sat up after hearing the words and smirked, “You guys misunderstood. Sir Shi doesn’t care for these basic women who only know how to apply makeup. Alright, bring them all in──”

Once the imperial prince clapped his hand, the procuress underneath led more than a dozen of young males that were dressed up as girls in elegantly. VSihMC

The demands for sexual relationships with males were quite high within the capital. Of course, all these young landed gentry masters have a male servant like those at home. No matter what they do, the other won’t have a child and even if they were to get a wife, the servant wouldn’t be chased out by the wife. For example, for someone as wealthy and powerful as Zhao Zheng, having more than a dozen of male servants to serve him in the bedroom wasn’t odd.

These young males didn’t only have great appearances, but they were also meek and gentle. They first danced to a song together, but no one had paid attention to see either if it was good or not. All the young masters only cared for the diligent bodies that were looming under those thin fabrics of tulle. Shi Tou had never stepped a foot in these types of places before, even when he was in An Ling. So a place in this degenerate, yet luxurious capital was out of the question.

He watched the alluring dance moves and their loud recitation of lustful poems He couldn’t keep his neck up straight and put his head down to drink. He didn’t know when a white-clothed male who was slightly older had sat down beside him, but he caught a glimpse of white and suddenly lifted his head. As the wine kicked in, his sight blurred a bit and it felt like he saw Ah-Jiang…

The young male smiled. Aside from the Jin Lord here, he was the most handsome person here. Although he seemed like an introvert upon first sight, now with a closer look, he thought the other was extremely cute. VJWIl0

He filled up Shi Tou’s wine cup for him and was about to lift it up to his mouth and feed him, but unexpectedly, Shi Tou grabbed onto his wrist harshly. Which young male hadn’t done this tens of thousands of times? He skillfully slipped into Shi Tou’s arms, looking up with obedient and pitiful eyes.

Constable Shi’s eyes widened and he was about to call out Ah-Jiang but in the next moment, fast footstep sounds strode over and the youngster within his embrace was pulled up. The next scene he saw was the Jin Lord with an angered face, yelling, “Bitch!” He threw the other without any care for the beauty. The young let out a scream as he crashed into the table.

Chrysanthemum Garden.

Once the incident occurred, silence fell across the boat instantly.

Zhao Zheng’s chest rose and fell rapidly He glared at everyone and roared with a wave of his sleeve, “Scram, all of you!” HdgNqO

Those people were all frightened of the Jin Lord’s authority so even if they were unhappy with this, they would not mention it. All of them put on a smile, pushed away from the beauties in their embrace, stood up, and excused themselves.

Shi Tou sobered up a lot with Zhao Zheng’s commotion. He saw Zhao Zheng glaring at him angrily, raising a bottle of wine and chugging it down like it was water. He quickly got up and tried to stop him, but Zhao Zheng pushed him and both of them fell back down to the seat.

“You like men? Are those male prostitutes not enough for you? What type is your liking? Just speak and I will get you one!” Zhao Zheng grabbed onto Shi Tou’s collar and spoke with the reek of wine lacing his words.

Shi Tou wrapped his own hands around the other and sat up with a dull face. “Zhao Zheng, you’re drunk.” C6IgTi

Zhao Zheng’s sneer was quite frightful, “Gege, is that ghost more important than me?” Then, he closed in, his mouth touching Shi Tou’s lips.

Shi Tou’s brain short-circuited. He immediately kicked Zhao Zheng in the abdomen, sending the other far away from himself.

“Servants! Take the imperial prince back to his Fu!” Shi Tou curled up a fist and wiped his mouth. He glanced at Zhao Zheng, who coughed harshly on the ground, once and left without looking back at all.

Zhao Zheng was sent back to his estate by someone trustworthy and then wreaked havoc. He slammed about everything inside his room. Especially when he found out that Shi Tou was staying at an inn, his rage was enough to break into the sky. He knew that he was having internal demons then, Shi Tou was his twin brother and yet he desired for the other just now! Thinking to that part, Zhao Zheng was struck dumb and sat down on a chair. He was worn out and after letting his anger out, all he felt was the emptiness in his heart after being rejected. ARwhma

Suddenly, wind swirled around his room and a clot of black mist broke in from the window. Zhao Zheng felt a great source of power lifting him by the neck and the black mist threw him down, slamming him right onto the wall.

“Shi, shizun…!” Zhao Zheng shakily got up.

“Undisciplined disciple!” The half-man and half-woman voice shouted sharply. Zhao Zheng was terrified and he quickly kowtowed “This disciple, this disciple knows his wrongdoings; I beg for shizun’s forgiveness!”

But the black mist only surrounded Zhao Zheng and choked Zhao Zheng harshly, forcing him to raise his head. Zhao Zheng struggled in pain with wide eyes, only to hear the odd voice speak, “Your master told you to bring him to the advisor’s estate as fast as possible, but you dared to oppose when you said you would comply!” CMlYqh

Zhao Zheng gulped and he knew that he’s been delaying it on purpose, so he couldn’t get an excuse out then to escape the situation.

The black mist snorted and threw Zhao Zheng aside to see him rolling on the ground for a while as he clutched his neck, coughing harshly.

“Tomorrow night──” The black mist roared, “Tomorrow night, your master wants to see that Constable on the altar! If there isn’t, then Zhao Zheng, you will pay with your life!”

Then, the black mist dispersed and Zhao Zheng stood up unstably with an absent-minded face. J Tku0

Mo (魔) – could be translated as “devil” but it didn’t seem right to fit in the context and fearsome enough. Specifically, it is used to describe evil spirits/creatures of remarkable power and cruelty.

Translator's Note

East city alley (东城巷) – literal translation and the author was probably referring to the dongcheng district (東城區) of Beijing, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dongcheng_District,_Beijing

Translator's Note

“Room beside” (偏房) – this is the literal translation by describing a room beside the master’s bedroom. Usually, this was where the master’s concubine/second wife lived at.

Translator's Note

Raden (锣(螺)钿) – Raden is a style and technique in Korean and Japanese lacquerware and woodwork, which isn’t the actual translation of the raw text, but most likely what the author meant.
The raw had “锣钿” that could’ve been a possible typo for “螺钿” AKA raden. I could only find information related to raden when searching up the original raw text, and also got a red autocorrect underline with it.

  3. ‘Unfortunately, Constable Shi only met with kind people ever since he was young.’ …. Obviously, he must be reclusive monk, since that statement completely eliminates any chance of him being a constable.
